- Rated 1 out of 5by Daedriel, 2 hours agoThere is nowhere else to add a comment on this, so I put this here: why does this extension require permission to access the data on all your websites (according to the extension's page here), when the developer claims that it doesn't require data collection? As you'd be using it on every site, all your IDs and PWs would be collected. Hard pass! Why would anyone allow this?

posted 14 minutes agoHi there,
You rated 1 star for a question about data collection.
Turn Off the Lights is a free and Open-Source browser extension. You can review the source code on GitHub:
https://github.com/turnoffthelights/Turn-Off-the-Lights-browser-extension
I understand why the permission descriptions "Access browser activity during navigation" and "Access your data for all websites" may look alarming, so I would like to clarify why these permissions are needed.
+ The extension uses the "tabs" permission to access information about open browser tabs, including the current page's URL. This helps the extension identify the webpage you are visiting and detect video players so it can provide its core functionality.
+ The "webNavigation" permission allows the extension to inject scripts before a webpage finishes loading. This is useful when the Dark Mode option is enabled, as it allows the extension to apply your chosen dark-mode settings as early as possible, helping prevent the bright white flash that can appear while a page is loading.
These permissions provide the technical capabilities needed for the extension to work; they do not, by themselves, mean that your passwords or personal information are being collected.

- Rated 4 out of 5by kjamcu, a year agoIt works almost as intended. But Firefox frequently stops working when customizing my settings. Task Manager also shows increased memory usage almost to 100%, I just don't understand how this is so demanding?

Thank you for using the Turn Off the Lights Firefox extension.
And for your 4-star rating.
Did you enable a certain feature? The Firefox extension is using a service worker, and it is manifest v3. So it uses less memory and is better in performance.
