You can customize everything on the Turn Off the Lights Options page. That includes increasing the opacity to 100% and choosing your own layer background color.

Or you can use the Double Click menu, which is the mini settings panel to adjust live the current dark layer. See this YouTube video tutorial:

Furthermore, there is also an option to bring all websites to your dark mode theme. That is harmony the same for all websites. You can choose the background, text, hyperlink, and button color.
