If you're at all concerned about your online privacy, please try this software. The folks at Abine are as concerned about your privacy as you are. I've only had one problem with this TACO one one website, and their professional staff got right on it and contacted me right away. Professional and courteous is how I'd rate them. This is a great addition to the software I already recommend to my virus and malware removal customers. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Works great, easy to use, don't notice any slow-down from it. I like the little popup menu to manage each page you land on.
The best, i ever had to get rid of trackers. Easy to use and you can save several other ad-ons (BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, cooky...). Good work and easy to understand. Even, if this is still a Beta - it is perfectly designed and exactly, what i need. Thank you!!
firefox 7.0.1 says not compatible
after installing from the developer site
reinstalling Taco 4.3 does not work with FF7.01. However, the speedy release of 4.31 DOES solve the problem. Very good support!
After upgrading to Firefox 7, TACO 4 became incompatible or so I thought. After a very quick response from Abine the problem was fixed within minutes! You only need to first remove TACO 4 from Add-ons, quit Firefox, re-download and install TACO 4, restart Firefox and you're up and running again. Great support from Abine. Thanks!
Although this Add-on is really perfect, there is a Serious Issue that needs attention...
I am using a portable version of Firefox (I use LiberKey for all my needs).
I installed TACO and it is working perfect.
BUT, TACO is working only on the PC where I installed it... When I take my USB to office or stick it into any other PC, everything works fine EXCEPT TACO.
TACO only identifies the PC used for installation.
Why is this happening?
Can this issue be identified and fixed?
It is quite likely that we are not compatible with LiberKey. It seems that they only support certain applications. You may consider submitting a request that they support TACO. Their submission form is here:
4.3 is the best update yet, i haven't had a single problem blocking stuff, normally I have to tinker, not so far
No Brainer, privacy in one
this has been a favorite add on of mine for awhile, it made me eeaven happier to see Abine is growing as a company. I love what you guys do, please keep it coming. I'd be happy to help test or do what ever I can to make the web more private. if others are interested, check out duck duck go, adblockplus are good privacy tools
A good privacy addon, thanks Abien
way to make a comeback I went from taco to beef taco and then back to abine. glad i came back, thanks guys
Use with WOT - web of trust - together, you are not tracked or scammed by bad links. great tool and collection.
TACO add-on is awesome and i like this add-on very much. This add-on is easy and secure.
V4 is solid. I've used it for many, many months and it is one of the best privacy tools out there. It replaces about 5 total extensions I used and the team is actually working on this and responds to help emails lickety-split.
Please simplify the block-all feature + connect to different proxies than Foxyproxy only!
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and TACO was imitated by lots of people on FF and other browsers. Even the enhanced features in newer versions of TACO were inspired by other privacy and security extensions. I still remember what a difference some of these like BetterPrivacy made in earlier versions of Firefox! I stayed with TACO and generally (too slowly developers!) can say it's replacing the rest.
I still prefer this extension over the defaults, it adds to the functionality, and I like the session save and restore here better than the default.
This add-on doesn't block ads like Ad-block Plus but Ad-block Plus doesn't tell the guys tracking you to shove-off. This isn't as slick as ABP+ but you can run them together to get these monkees off your back.
This is one my favorite extensions. Seeing as Firefox's main benefit is (was) better security than IE, then extending that is rather useful. This is one of the best, and seems to do pretty much anything I ever want. Thumbs up Mr. developer. I do have one suggestion: allow me to block all the ad-networks with one click and only see the # blocked on new sites. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestions and feedback! We are definitely experimenting with and discussing the default settings so we have considered a button that blocks everything with one click. This is something we will need to revisit because it seems like a user friendly option. As for the number in the icon toolbar, we believe that it works best when showing the total # of trackers on that site.
It's worth for keeping uninstalled in your system. I like it's pop-up ads blocking features. I unlike opening of too many tabs while i surf in the web. Thanks for this feature in this addon. Recommended one...
I have been using this addon for a almost 8 Months. Since then, I've notice the sites I go to (except Facebook) putting more and more advertising networks on their pages to track me. I don't like the idea of this at all. I can't say that I've seen ads "following me around" after a search but I hate them not asking me. A few requests even with the new version which is definitely faster and better: - can the window go away after I click off the page? - can we have it display just if there are unblocked trackers? - what does the recommended setting for Google+ actually mean? I don't understand. Otherwise, a big big big thank you. Great add-on.
You may not notice any blatant advertising networks on Facebook, but Facebook still has plenty of your personal information. They work with the third party tracking companies to distribute your information. Facebook is one of several companies that tracks you at millions of other websites you visit without telling you.
1. I like the idea of having the window disappear after clicking away. I'm submitting this as a feature request.
2. There is already a way to have the window display only when there are unblocked trackers. To do this, look under "Preferences" >> "Pop-up Window Controls"
3. When the Recommended Settings bar appears, there is an option to click "See Changes" and that will display a window that explains why we suggest some different settings.
4 stars for Taco 4. The ability to see who's tracking me is definitely better in this version since I've been using the old one. I'd like to be able to see how many are not blocked as well though.
You can see how many aren't blocked by clicking on the Privacy Alert window. Did you mean somewhere else or in some other way?
great addon, blocks web tracking
THANK GOD FOR TACO 4
i actually decided to stick with abine when they totally screwed up TACO 3 and could not be happier that I did. I liked the original but taco 4 is just what they should have done. Nothing more, nothing less. love it, Thanks abine!!!!!!
I'm a total privacy nut, I can speak from expertise that this is the most comprehensive add on for ff. you just need to know what they're doing, go look at the faq on the website if you don't get it
The gui is clunky. The privacy suite extra app nonsense is confusing. There are numbers everywhere and very little explanation of what they mean. I appreciate what they're trying to do but it seems like it's done better elsewhere.
Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the Apps interface could use some updates, even possibly a complete revamp. I think most of the numbers are pretty straightforward, but I'd like to hear more about what's confusing.
Thanks for trying TACO. Any other suggestions are welcome.
