This is very good, like a bunch of other ppl I agree that with this ext 'Panorama' actually becomes usable.
One thing: pls add an option to remove the new menu in the Menu Bar completely, so that the only way to access TabGroup is via the Panorama button.
The icon here cannot display in my addon manager.
Please fix the url.
Suggestion: Right click on the panorama button to show the dropdown menu so that the dropdown button can be omitted.
Tabgroups menu is a nice and usefull tool but... I'm really, really angry cause I had sorted all my bookmaks and Tabgroups menu don't look at an existing folder with the same name when you "bookmark group" from his menu. Result: A big folder with thousands of bookmarks hard sorted for hours and hours... deleted and replaced by one with same name from a group, without any warning, all my work to do again from a backup. I can't understand how a so stupid case can be forgotten when a tools is designed !!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't replace or delete any folder. It creates a new bookmark folder. It existing folder already exists, there will be two folders with the same name. Firefox allows bookmarks folder with duplicate names.
Seriously, adding a new (anonymous) group should be way faster/easier for this to be actually usable
Quite the contrary, the concept of this extension is that every groups should have a name. If you want anonymous group, then this extension is not for you.
I love this addon, but I found a little problem: open menu on mouse over doesn't work, I'm using v0.9 on win7 and FF 9.0 beta.
Why not make an icon as well? I have my menu disabled to save space. I'd rather use this addon in my toolbar
Add the panorama button to your toolbar then check the extension options.
my new favorite firefox addon!
This is the only tabgroups manager that is actually USABLE (without this plugin, it is easier to switch between 20 windows than hassle with panorama... it is an awful invention, without any usable alternative way to handle groups). So only kind words this add-on can receive. Kindest words.
Using panorama is like when you have hands and legs cut off and you have to writhe for your life with the limb that is not yet cut off. IMPOSSIBRU!
I have always couple of hundred permanent tabs open. And couple of hundreds or more "temporary tabs"...
So imagine my frustration ... without this add-on (it is imaginobru!)
And this add-on is quite keyboard friendly... Well, maybe it needs "move current tab to" menu item for consistency and speed... nothing, that can't be improved at the end of the day. Why?
This is actually the reason why I came here in the first place. I came here To Complain. About unusable FF. Can you, dear developer, fix the issue --> FF's default "Move to Group" in tab context menu is unsorted!
It neeeeeeeds to be sorted. I really do not understand what is in the minds of the "Original FF" developers.
But original "Move to Group" is the fastest way to move tabs (less clicks).
So what else... "Options" should be also visible in Add-ons Manager :)
Tips for others: excellent companion for this add-on is Multiple Tab Handler.
Thou, in menus you can select multiple tabs with "ctrl-click" and move them to new groups (sorted list!), I'd say it usually better to use features that Multiple Tab Handler provides - select tab ranges (shif-click) - and move those ranges through... unsorted menu :(
Use them both and ... and there will be much rejoicing! YAY!
Version 0.9 is up
*Note: may be buggy
Is there a possibility to make the TabGroups appear in a (new) bar, instead of drop-down menu?
Something like in the outdated TabGroupsManager.
That would be really awesome.
You should better ask the developer of pano (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pano/) for that because it'd much be easier to be implemented in that extension.
Great add-on. It makes the tab groups functionality usable. Without this, tab groups were like driving a car with three wheels (I hate the panorama view). I completed it with the 'Customizable Shortcuts' add-on to be able to switch groups with the Ctrl+Tab shortcut.
Wow. This one add-on rounds up just about all the functionality that was needed to actually make the Panorama feature useful. The ability to access groups in a more standard way. The ability to move selected tabs in or out of groups. For someone who routinely keeps 100+ tabs open, this is a welcome relief. No problems at all, so far... Though I wouldn't mind an option to remove the redundant TabGroups menu; the icon drop-down gives me all the same options, doesn't it? Anyway, great job!
The options dialog page is inaccessible if the settings are changed to not use the menu dropdown (which is changed from the options page). How do we get the options page back? Can you add it to extensions page?
Thanks, I will consider it in the next version. I believe for restartless extension, support for adding options button to the extensions page is only supported in aurora branch, so this may or may not work for your firefox version.
Great add-on, thanks. Can I ask you to make the possibility of limiting the number of characters in the name of the tab in menu?
I will add it to the next version, but it'll take some time since I'd have to change how the options are applied (current options dialog of this addon only supports checkbox (boolean) preferences).
Excellent add-on! Thank you.
A suggestion: for users with tabs at the bottom of the FF window, esp. with TabMixPlus, it's too far for the mouse to travel to the top to reach the button. An option would be nice to reposition the panorama button to the bottom, where the tabs are. The tabs can be multi-row so the best place for the button would be at the left, in front of the first ('application') tabs. Or wherever at the bottom please...
I don't use tabmixplus, but with stock tabbar, I was already able to place the panorama button into it.
Version 0.8.2.9 seems to be working fine, thank you for fixing the problems i mentioned with the groups
5 STARS ALL THE WAY!
The extension is definitely starting, because I have two windows restored when Firefox opens, and one of them has the dropdown and the other doesn't. The only errors in the console are from errors in webpages that are loading. When I try to open the options I get an error saying "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (tabgroupsmenu) isn't associated with any program."
EDIT: When I make sure to only have one window open when closing firefox, and then open a second window afterward, the dropdown menu is there. When two windows are restored it appears the dropdown is only given to one of them. I use the Session Manager extension for sessions if that could make a difference.
Probably a conflict with another extension. I installed session manager in my test firefox, opened two windows, restarted it, and the dropdown is there, in both windows.
Very nice addon! Works mostly fine with version 7 too with the exception of moving multiple tabs.
Nice, useful add-on !
One feature I'd like though is the ability to select multiple tabs at once by dragging the mouse with the right button held down. This could come in handy when you have to deal with a bunch of tabs.
Also, is it foreseeable to gain access (e.g. by CTRL+right-click as the regular right-click is already used for tab selection) to the exact same tab context menu as the one found in the built-in tab bar ?
Finally, having Multiple Tab Handler installed and the latter allowing multiple tab selection, I 'd like to find a way to harmonize both tab selection systems so that, when I select some in TabGroups Menu and then go back to the original tab bar, the tabs in question are still selected in there. Any thoughts ?
Thanks for your work.
Looks nice -easy to setup, but it does not 'save' upon exit/closing with Firefox 5. Did I miss something? I use to use a different tab grouping add-on but installed this because the other didn't work with FF 5 either. What's up?
It's only an interface to the built-in tab-grouping feature of firefox (since firefox 4).
sorry to report here and not on github.
I have nightly and firefox4 installed. when i switch between them, this addons don't enable automatically (the panorama icon on the top bar it's the standard one, without dropdown menu). in nightly it says it's enabled but it is not. I have to disable and re-enable it to make appear the icon with the menu. with other jetpack addons doesn't happen.
very great addon indeed, should be into firefox.
I don't have any idea of what's causing that. Probably if you can paste your firefox error console contents (Tools -> Web Developer -> ERror Console in nightly) when starting nightly I can get some more information of the problem.
Edit: Seems that I have also experienced this problem when updating firefox :D .
Can't install version 0.5 here on Firefox 4.01, please fix.
It would be awesome if we can "bookmark" the tabgroups onto a tool bar.
How to install:
1) download the file,
2) save it to your hard disk,
3) select tools -> addons
4) drag the downloaded file to the firefox window.
Bookmarking is unrelated to the purpose of this addon.
This is a wonderful addon. It would be perfect with a few minor adjustments:
1) the 'switch group by clicking on the group name' fix doesn't work. I am still unable to switch to a tab group by clicking on its name. This is what I want to do 100% of the time.
2) SixthStreet mentioned that the dropdown arrow is a bit too hard to click on - I completely agree. I like the proposed solution by SixthStreet. A button similar to the large bookmarks button would be ideal. I could then entirely scrap the panorama button.
3) shifting the 'New Group...' menu item to the bottom of the menu would mean even less mouse movement is necessary on a daily basis.
1) are you using the file/version from github?
2) it's in version 0.5
3) and this too...
Look at trim function in bootstrap.js
Really nice addon.
Small issues :-
2/ Why when creating a "New group" is it required to enter a group name!? "Enter group title (required)"
Excellent addon, works smoothly, and greatly improves Tab Groups functionality. You may want to use the native Firefox view once in a while when you want to see thumbnails of your tabs, but 90%+ of the time this is much faster and more functional. Thanks!
