Awesome extension. Just what I want.
Here is a guide on what to do:
1 Open a new tab, paste & go about:config into the address bar.
2 If needed, click the I’ll be careful, I promise button
3 Filter for extension.switchToTabBlacklist.blacklist
4 Double-click the entry
5 Remove the existing value and paste in [".*"] (make sure to include the brackets)
6 Close the tab. switch-to-tab feature is now OFF
shame the extension doesn't do this automatically. Also a shame Fire Fox has become so awful. It used to be the best browser around but with all those updates it only got worse and worse. I wish Fire Fox would stop sucking so hard.
Does exactly what it needs to do, and has no issues that I can tell. A wonderful addon that shouldn't need to exist, but does anyway, until Mozilla gets off their ass and lets us configure this annoying 'feature'.
Having to install this plugin on each of my systems for sanity's sake has become a sad ritual for me. Five stars but not a happy bunny because there should be no need for this plugin to exist; it demonstrates a deficiency of the base browser.
@beerbuster, since the modified bootstrap.js lines 42 and 46 are essentially the same as editing the about:config value for extension.switchToTabBlacklist.blacklist to [".*"] then there's really no need for the gymnastics; also the change can be made directly by creating a user.js file in the profile directory (kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file) which should read: user_pref("extension.switchToTabBlacklist.blacklist", "[\".*\"]");
Monsieur Moi and all users using this extension
Here is my fixed version on this addon. I currently use firefox 9 Beta 1 and works fine. fixed version by beerbuster a.k.a Koletzfeller
If you wanna this addon to work correct follow the Instructions:
1. Uninstall switch-to-tab Blacklist and close Firefox.
2. Find in %appdata%\Mozilla\firefox\Profiles\Your_profile\extensions switchToTabBlacklist@zpao.com.xpi and delete him.
3. Find the prefs.js and delete all paragraphs witch contains extension.switchToTabBlacklist.blacklist and save prefs.js.
4. After this Download the edited version of switch-to-tab Blacklist from and Install it.
Have a FUN :)
Thanks for this useful addon, but can't you set the default blacklist to .*?
I guess everybody change, why maps.google.com?
Any chance of this must-have extension being bumped for compatibility for Firefox 8 stable?
This extension is fantastic. It is simple to use, effective, and does what it says. I changed the blacklist to [".*"] as others have in order to totally (and very effectively) disable the switch to tab feature.
Worth noting: the blacklist was reset to the default when I updated to FF 7, but that was a quick fix once I realized what was wrong.
Glad you like it John!
The bug you mention is actually due to a bug in Firefox. I've reported it and may put out 1.2 to work around the problem.
Well, it does what it's supposed to do! Nice job.
I finally got rid of the crappy SwitchToTab, adding [".*"]
Brilliant! I can now open multiple different google maps without the flipping switch to tab feature trying to stop me. Not to metnion wikipedia pages, bbc news stories..... If I find out who it is I will buy this developer a drink.
Works as stated. Would love it though if you could also block autocompleting with the URL from existing tabs.
It works fine to completely disable switch to tab as said earlier. An option to completely disable switching would be nice so it wouldn't compare url-s needlessly.
A simple gui would be welcome to. With a checkbox for completely disabling and a textbox for the regex expressions.
Perfect! Add [".*"] to blacklist and annoying "Switch to Tab" is gone forever. Thank you!
A very good idea, it does what it has to do, without unnecessary things (GUI is often bigger than the code that does what the addon does)
