Hello, thanks for your review. You can adjust the sync delay by more than 3 seconds. Under the sync slider, click on the actual value and set any time you want :) If you want to add a negative sync, add the minus sign before the number. https://imgur.com/a/o6dD6Bb Hope this help! The slider is indeed limited to an offset of -3 to +3 seconds from the value you entered manually, the reason is that if the slider would allow for a larger offset value, precision would be lost. (for example when moving a bit on the right, it would directly jump to a bigger value and you would not be able to sync it precisely) Please let me know if you have other question or need help.
This add-on seems to be a really good effort. Unfortunately there are a few issues: 1. Most importantly, every time you pause or jump to a different timestamp it takes 5-10 seconds until it displays subtitles again, which is quite a dealbreaker for me. 2. The options menu doesn't stay visible (using Amazon Prime), even with the mouse cursor hovering over it. And somewhat funnily it will only show up again if the cursor leaves it. 3. A significant amount of time when looking for subtitles with the built-in search it will just show an error after loading for a while. I realize that this is possibly due to the external provider, but even then the error handling is suboptimal, since it throws you back to the main menu afterwards, meaning the whole process of searching and choosing a subtitle has to be done over and over again until it works.
Additionally, as I just noticed the timing seems to be off from the file. In my example the first line in the srt file starts at 00:00:19 seconds but after loading it into the add-on it shows the first line at about 00:00:09. Synchronization option is set to 0.
Also, having the option to add outlines and/or shadows to the subtitle display would be beneficial for visibility.
Fantastic, one-of-a-kind extension! I looked for a subtitle player and this add-on was the most flexible one. I mostly use it as a layer and this is a feature other addons are lacking. Full screen by definition brings the video to the foreground, so no subtitles on top, there is no workaround yet within FF (still I can press F11 and zoom the page in to make video almost fullscreen). I wish I could try new v2, but I press the button and the popup menu is blank. Maybe it's my old browser, FF 47.0.2, I think it's not any other extension. Anyway, I give the dev 5 stars because it's awesome! Thanks!
I'm hearing impaired so this is a lifesaver. It's very easy to use: it identifies the video and lets you load a subtitle file from your computer. The option to add subtitles as a layer is a good emergency solution for when the video cannot be identified for some reason. The only downside when I used it was that it doesn't support fullscreen mode. Also the video would cover the on-screen controls, but luckily this can mostly be solved by moving and resizing the subtitle layer.
The reasons I'm only giving it 4/5: sometimes a bug will stop it from either identifying video or let you load subtitles as layer. There's no easy way to toggle subtitles on/off. Synching subtitles with video doesn't always seem to be working.
Things I'd love to see in the next version: fullscreen support for layer, option to change size and position of any subtitles, or the option to add subtitles as layer even when the video has been identified.
But even now this is an incredibly useful addon. I can't see myself uninstalling it unless something better comes along.
Thank you very much for your long feedback :) I'm happy to know that Substital is a lifesaver for you since it is my primary goal to make videos more accessible. I took note of your suggestions. I am already working on the next version where the bugs will be fixed and the video detection will be improved to support a lot more videos.
Thank you for your review and for your suggestions! I'm currently actively working on the next major version and it will support a default language for the subtitles search, plus many other improvements especially for the video detection and subtitle settings! It will be first developed for Chrome but since Firefox is now supporting WebExtensions, I should be able to port it to Firefox! Thank you for using Substital.

I am into downloadable movies because there, where I can only use .SRTs. However, there are movies wherein it takes time to download and some were not downloadable. Youtube has a poor word-by-word subtitle and it even makes the context null; WITH THE USE OF THIS ADD-ON I could even use .SRTs now very smooth. It does not only apply in YouTube but also in other video players.
Regarding the actual add-on, it is very flexible and may resize; it is a great idea to have a slider for the subtitle. However, it takes time to look for the subtitle files. I suggest to the developer to make it more convenient for the user to easily found the most accurate SRTs they are looking for. But, in general this is so far, the best subtitle provider for the online movies. I hope the developer could upgrade it.
Thank you! I'm actually already working on adding a research for the subtitles directly integrated within Substital. So it will very easy for users to search and load subtitles. Should be out soon. Hold on tight! In the meantime, thanks for using Substital!
