Version 1.02 bug Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Version 1.02 fixes most problems below, but I found that it does not preserve the "Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar" setting in Options - Privacy - History.

Thanks, much better than clearing out your private data every time and then having to lose all your previous typed URLs and such.

Great extension, what I would like though is the option to enable and disable in the taskbar like adblock.

A great plugin but since the last update I got some a bug: After using stealther the privacy options aren't set like they should. Before use cookies are turned on, after I used stealther and disabled it again my cookies are turned of. Same thing with the form fill option one time. When the bugs are fixed it is a great plugin.

Stealther Cookie on/off problem Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The update broke the cookies on/off function in my browser also.

This is how I fixed it.

I uninstalled these recently updated addons:

Stealther, Throbber Button & Uppity.

I reinstalled the previous versions:

Stealther .99
Throbber 0.9
Uppity 1.4.14

Stealther was now working again.

I then updated the addons:

Throbber & Uppity but did *NOT* update Stealther again.

Stealther version .99 is STILL turning my cookies on & off like it did before the update.

The current version of Stealther was recently rolled back to version 0.99 due to a bug in version 1.01. With that in mind, the first thing I would like to say is that this version of Stealther works (as per it's description) PERFECTLY with Firefox once again.

Thanks Filip!

Worked good for me in FF2... but what about FF3 support?

Problems / Fixes Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have used Stealther for a while and found it to be a great add-on.

Recently however it caused me problems similar to the ones described in recent posts. (I'm on an XP system) I don't know if a recent Firefox update or Stealther update or a combination of both caused the problems.

Thanks to Bob Smith and Phyber Optik for posting solutions on how to fix the problem. Without Bob mentioning the banking account access problem, I never would have realized the source of the issue. Implementing the changes he prescribed fixed it.

One thing I would add for people like myself that aren't as computer literate as these folks:

about:config should be typed into the URL bar (where you type your web site addresses) of your Firefox browser. That will bring up the config files that need attention.

If the bugs can be fixed I would rate Stealther a 5 star add-on.

Thanks for the help folks.

Almost perfect Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Worked fine for me, except there is a bug in the stealther.js file causing the history expiration date to be set to zero days permanently.

Change browser.history_expire_days to browser.history_expire_days_min on the 2nd line of the last 'else' block of this file, and it will work fine.

Great add-on, maybe if there was an option that allow to enable/disable the rules without key combination it would be even better..

Very very buggy extension.

Just like many other users, i had to work with about:config to restore the damage done by this extension. However, it didnt work, so i had to reinstall firefox again and configure it again.

With my addons it took me more than a hour...

So beware of this extension. It might screw up ur firefox. I suggest to test it on a new profile.

I wish i could give more stars to this extension, cause the idea is GREAT (thats why i gave it 2 stars). I hope the author is willing to fix this extension.

Doesn't Work With Firefox 3.x Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great addon, but it's best features are not available when installed in Firefox 3.x. All versions of Stealther work well in Firefox 2.x. I love this addon so much, I refuse to upgrade most of my computers to Firefox version 3. I will be watching for a version of Stealther that will provide the functionality in Firefox 3 that it does in Firefox 2.

I wish I could give this extension less than 1 star. It screwed up my Firefox, even after I uninstalled the extension. I had to totally reinstall Firefox and start from scratch.

Fixing Firefox after Stealther Rated 1 out of 5 stars

First, uninstall any version of Stealther you have.

Then find the previous review about removing the entries from prefs.js and do it.

Go to your preferences' privacy, security and advanced/network tabs and set your cookies, history, passwords and cache.

Go to about:config -

Set browser.sessionstore.enabled to true.
Set browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo to 10 (the default). This will re-enable your Recently Closed Tabs.

Set network.http.sendRefererHeader to 2. This will re-enable the referrer header which A LOT of finance and banking sites need. I am fairly certain most victims of a Stealther blowup don't even know their referrer function is broken...

Restart Firefox.

Settings will not reverse Not yet rated

I used this flawlessly on an earlier version of FF.

On FF v2.0.0.12, it will not reverse the settings once enabled. And will not reset them even after the extension is uninstalled!

After you uninstall it you need to repair the settings:

1) Close Firefox.

2) Find the file prefs.js.

In Vista...C:> USERS > YOU > App Data > Roaming > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > Default

3) R. Click it and select "Edit" (notepad should open)

4) Scroll down and delete all "steather" references.

5) Save the file. (File Menu > Save)

Restart and it should be fixed.

This extension worked flawlessly on a previous version of FF.

But unfortunately on FF 2.0.12, it will jack-up your box -even if you uninstall it.

Nice extension, if it gets reworked worked to actually work.

**edit* Thanks Bob for adding the additional fix info.

This extension needs to be removed ASAP, before People switch to IE, thinking FF is the culprit with this ill behavior.

Somethings you should know Rated 1 out of 5 stars

First off, this add-on doesn't work if coupled with some other add-ons such as Snap Links.
Second, if you close Firefox without turning it off, it basically just shuts off cookies and history and it gets really annoying having to turn on cookies and history and remember all the sites you actually wanted in the address bar for about the twentieth time.
Third, if you DO turn it off before shutting down, IT DOESN'T WORK. IE: You turn it off, then shut down, guess what's waiting for you in your history? EVERYTHING YOU DIDN'T WANT TO FIND THERE, THAT'S WHAT.
So be aware that these are things you may (and probably will) run into after installing it.

Doesnt block history Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I would give my middle nut for an add-in that didnt just clear my URL history but completely prevented anything from going into it in the first place. Nothing seems to work, including Stealther. I enable it and type the URLs of a few sites. Sure enough all of the sites are remembered in the URL history. I'd give it a 10 if it did this properly.
