I'm not sure why , but the link is still broken

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.6).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

The link appears to work fine when I test it just after uploading; the file seems to get corrupted sometime later. I am trying to get this resolved. Meanwhile, you can find it linked from: http://www.shadetreeapiary.com/extension/Prerelease/index.htm Thanks for your patience; sorry for all the trouble.

It does what any professionally developed browser should have in the first place.. being able to [mmb] entries on dropmenu bookmark lists and have them opened in separate tabs, without the choir of having re-open the same menu.

Shame its not working on 4.0bpre10

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.6).

re: 4.0b10(pre)

Stay-Open Menu 1.5.8rc (currently available as a prerelease version on the "all versions" page) contains the required update for compatibility with recent 4.0b10pre and the just released b10 Firefox versions. I'll upload the final version in a few days unless some bug is reported.
Glad you like it, thanks.

crucial for finding finding bookmarks in the "awesome bar" Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This should be implemented in FF!!! This is crucial for finding finding bookmarks in the "awesome bar" and opening the ones I like with via middle click!!!!

Interestingly enough, the only other browser that has similar functionality to this add-on is Internet Explorer 7/8 with its Favorites menu behavior. It's very similar. But this add-on has the best behavior for a bookmarks menu that I've seen yet. It combines ease-of-access with permanence to just the right degree.

Really useful. I don't understand why this add-on is so big.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.6).

Glad you like it. Things that add to its size: implementing its various options, fixing issues that occur as a side-effect of leaving the menu open, supporting both Firefox 3 and Firefox 4, translations by Babelzilla, the per-file MPL text. The code also includes a lot of comments (documentation) facilitating my ability to update it. It *is* open source; feel free to see for yourself which features take up the most code. It could be made somewhat smaller, but approx. 22kb (Firefox 4 no longer uncompresses them on disk) is not really that big, and taking time to find ways to reduce its size is not a high priority.

Why is this not standard behavior for *all* apps with nested menus that work this way? Those impossible menus are part of the reason I stubbornly stuck with DOS for *years* after everyone else had moved on to the annoying GUIs...and then moved to Linux later on. Really, I wish I had something like this for my entire operating system. I'd need to memorize a lot fewer terminal commands, if I had.

Very useful . . . Rated 4 out of 5 stars

. . . But it seems to have stopped working after installing the Tab Utilities extension. I have Stay-Open Menu set to keep menus open when Ctrl-clicking bookmarks; and I set Tab Utilities to the "default action" when I Ctrl-click bookmarks, but this didn't solve the problem. Any insights or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.6).

Try going to Tab Utilities Options and in the 'Mouse' section, change Middle-click on Bookmarks to either 'Stay menu open' or 'Invert focus/Stay menu open'.That should enable Stay-Open Menu to keep the menu open for Ctrl-clicks. If you need further assistance please either post to the support forum or contact me via the form at http://www.shadetreeapiary.com/extension/Forms/contactform.htm.

Works on trunk again! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Missed it greatly during the recent absence. The awesome bar isn't nearly so without it.

Compatibility with Firefox 3.7a5pre? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hey there,

Great addon, but I'm afraid the next major update, Firefox 3.7 (http://nightly.mozilla.org/), with the new addon manager, breaks it.

Any chance of a compatibility fix?

Problem with new version 1.5.4 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I have a conflict with the extension "Toolbar Buttons 0.6.0.8" (click button "bookmarks menu")
When choosing any bookmark menu is doubling all!
Please fix. In the previous version everything was ok.

Re: Problem with new version 1.5.4

This occurs only with Ctrl-click (not middle-click) and was a known issue listed on the Stay-Open Menu website. I have added a mention of this to the release notes. It was working properly with the previous version of Toolbar Buttons. Fix is on to-do list.

RE. my earlier review:
Since that time, the Add-on's developer has been working with me via email and solved my middle-click "bug" (it had to do with a setting in another one of my Add-ons, Personal Menu.)
Five stars for this add-on, and another five for the Developer's level of support!

Helpful Add-on despite recent bug. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A bookmarks folder on the bookmarks toolbar tends to close up immediately after clicking on a bookmark. This extension is very useful because it keeps the menu open long enough to enable me to click on other bookmarks I wish to open.
A problem since 1.5.3 is that middle-clicking on a bookmark folder no longer opens all the bookmarks within that folder (sorry! - I cannot recall what got me this functionality in the first place - but I value it very much). However, reverting back to 1.5.2 re-enabled this without any apparent loss of function.

Breaks workflow Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I didn't notice any improvements since 1.5.2 - to which I rolled back as 1.5.3 messes with ListAllTabs widget's tab listings - it makes current tab (which was bold black) - blue and italic.
It might be fine for some, if highlighting (for said tab in the list) wasn't blue itself. It almost completely blinds tab's title. FAIL.

Re: Breaks workflow

Sorry to disappoint. This change will definitely be optional in the next version. The text appears much darker than the background in my tests and there were no complaints during the beta period. Perhaps this is OS or theme related; regardless, I don't want to make it illegible for anyone.
For those who don't wish to revert to 1.5.2, that change can be reversed in 1.5.3 by adding the following line to userChrome.css:
.tabs-alltabs-popup > menuitem[selected='true'] > label {font-weight: bold !important; font-style: normal !important; color: black !important;}
See 'Known Issues' on homepage (http://www.shadetreeapiary.com/extension/#legibility) for more details.

i like this addon for the simple function it offers. however, somewhere along the line..or maybe it was always like that, i'm not so sure why but it stopped opening even the top folder on the bookmarks toolbar.

at first i thought it didn't support the bookmarks toolbar but checking the website and seeing the screenshots proved otherwise. i've also had a look at some of the bug reports you have listed on the site but came up with nothing.

since i (and others) multi-task, i can't disable any addons (requiring restart) one by one to see which addon it is that is causing possible conflict...but just for the record, i will put down what addons i'm using currently, that headline affecting bookmarks-or just the toolbar itself in general.

- Bookmark Duplicate detector
- Go Parent folder
- Show Parent folder
(adds a 'category/sort by to the existing displaying 'parent' folder)
- Smart bookmarks bar
(for the saving of favicon space. Hover for file names. Auto hide toolbar)
- Stay-Open Menu
- Xmarks

aside from the last, these should all be strictly concentrating on one function in general. possibly there were addons from before, now uninstalled, but we cannot remember them, sorry.

that said, it really is a very nice function and i will continue to use it hoping for a possible solution^^

Re: problem on bookmarks toolbar

I cannot reproduce your issue based on the information here. If it's compatibility related, perhaps it is already fixed by version 1.5.3. It's not necessary to disable them one-by-one. See steps 2-4 under the heading 'Extension Issues' at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox. Please post at the support site or use the contact form on the extension's homepage if you'd like help or would rather try other diagnostic methods. Often one cannot 'guess' which extensions are incompatible by looking at their names. If you don't have time to troubleshoot or just can't restart /now/, that's understandable. But you are unlikely to resolve issues without at some point restarting Firefox.

Additional note: The issue reported in a previous review by 'Ketchup Addict' (hilite gets out-of-sync with mouse pointer), now has a workaround listed on the extension's homepage.

Great add-on.

Sadly, it conflicts with Add Bookmark Here ² (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3880), where a middle click on a bookmark will disrupts the mouse cursor behavior when you want to click on a second bookmark.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.2).

Re: Conflict with Add Bookmark Here ²

Thanks.
I would gladly attempt to fix this if I could reproduce it. Not sure what you mean by "disrupts the mouse cursor behavior". If you (or anyone) has more details on this, please post at the support site or use the contact form on the extension's homepage.

Apologies for my earlier review; the problem (duplication of "Hide this menu" item) was most probably because of some other ad-don; dunno which one as I disable a couple of them!!

Also, to bring back the Bookmark I just had to re-enable it from Delicious Menu. Hence kudos to this ad-don, and my apologies again. 5/5
