Spell Checker Rated 4 out of 5 stars

this version does work but you need to install a dictionary as it does not install one automatically, type in a box then right click there is an option to install dictionary

It doesn't work for me either which is a shame as a spell checker would have been very useful.

I understand I will have to mess around with an .xpi file to get it working. Which I'm not going to do and I'm sure many others wouldn't either. These add ons should really be up to date or dropped.

Sam.

It doesn't work Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It doesn't work at all. I don't get it. I am a moderator on a website and when I write replies to people, this thing isn't underlining any of my misspellings. I've installed it twice, shut down, restarted and done everything I can think of.
I'm giving it one start only because I am required to do so. This thing deserves no stars.
It doesn't work.

Works Fine Rated 4 out of 5 stars

You have to alter the XPI so that the version of FF goes up... the reason it doesn't work for most is because of that. It seems that there is no more support for this add-on, unless you do it yourself.

Fail!@*^%@$ Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Simply doesn't work. I right click and/or click the icon in the bottom righ taskbar and it does........NOTHING. Please don't complain if my spelling in this review is not accurate!

Firefox 7

PS - Why doesn't Firefox's built in spellchecker work for me either?!?!?!!?!?!?!

Edit Box Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This really needs the ability to check text inside the edit box.

Not Firefox 6 Compatible Yet Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Looking forward to using it if it does what is says it can do. Will check back soon!

I don't see why the dictionary can't be chosen from the
meta http-equiv="Content-Language"
header.

Please let us have this for Firefox 4, I have downloaded another which can be used but it will not allow you to add words to dictionary and also seems only to like English US and not British!

Loved using this add-on. Wish that there was a updated version for Firefox 4.

Nice work done Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The spell checker seems to be working fine and i love to use it. However for your information there is a spell mistake in tool tip of the spell check icon present at footer of browser. Here web page is misspelled as 'webapge'. Expecting more for your next release.

Thanks,

I really like the idea behind this as an add-on but I'm not sure whether I'll keep it. If I could have it permanently on for my one website, I think it would be a little better.

The second best thing out there is this bookmarklet:
javascript:if(document.body.contentEditable=='true'){document.body.contentEditable='false';document.designMode='off';void%200}else{document.body.contentEditable='true';document.designMode='on';void%200}
but it makes the page editable, which is annoying.

Simply not working Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Clicking on icon does nothing, on this web-page or others. Same with contextual menu item - no response. In Add On Manager, Options is unavailable. Basically, it doesn't work at all for me, on Firefox 3.6.13.

Wait... I found the Preferences menu, and fixed the problem. No dictionary was chosen, as it is set to select en-US by default, and I do not have the US dictionary installed at all. I selected my dictionary, and it works fine now. I had also made the changes to about:config mentioned below, but that alone did not fix the problem. Anyway, it works now.

Does the job except it only uses the current built in dictionary. It will ignore any words you may have added to your personal dictionary file (persdict.dat). Hopefully this will be fixed for the next release. (Until this is fixed - the tool is only moderately useful, depending on how good your main dictionary is)

Simple and useful. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Simple and does the job.

Useful well when writing and editing web pages. Had a slight glitch when upgrading FireFox to 3.6.10 which stopped it working. Opening about:config and Changing extensions.gSpellChecker.firstRun to true, extensions.gSpellChecker.version to 1.3.0 and restarting FireFox fixed the problem.I like the spelling error in the status bar message; it's a reminder of how easy it is to miss typos. There's one on the addon's home page too, which you can use to test it on. I'm not sure whether that is a bug of a feature either.

@pinion42 - who didn't think it useful - might want to check the spelling in his review using it:-)

Typo in ALT Tag, Really? Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I like the ease of use of this spell checker but A: we should be able to update the dictionary and B: the Icon's ALT Tag needs to be spell checked: "Click here to check the webapge for spelling mistakes"

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Works great with 3.6
Provides both an icon and a context menu item.
Exactly what I was looking for and was immediately useful.

This user has a previous review of this add-on.

When you install this you can add a small icon at the bottom of your browser to click, this will check the whole page for spelling mistakes. As you hover over it it reads:

"Click here to check the webapge for spelling mistakes"

Seriously? now as funny as that is it makes this add on redundent and a complete waste of time.
The 1 star is for the laugh it gave me.
