A very promising extention. There are a few issues I have with it though.
1. *Never* ad an entry into the menu bar. People (including myself) absolutely hate that. If you must, then ad an option to disable it.
2. the rounded edges appear jagged in linux
3. The favicons look ugly when stretched. Perhaps you could add an option to use our own icons?
Thanks for the feedback, it's always much appreciated :)
From version 0.9.9 you can disable the menu item by toggling the "extensions.sitelauncher.showMenu" setting inside about:config
very nice and useful addon, but I wish you would add an option to remove its menu from the Menu toolbar..
I've wanted this kind of plugin for a long time, to replace my bookmark bar, then I found it.
Unfortunately, the hotkey that bring the launcher window front doesn't work on my Firefox, I've tried many versions, 3.2a1, 3.1b3, 3.05, none of them works. I just wonder why, I'm using the Simplified Chinese version of FF, does it matter?, I just can't see the launcher window, so pls help me
simply love this...its the QuickSilver for Firefox
this is pretty slick, I got hid my bookmarks toolbar and now I am just going to use this for navigating. Awesome, I am looking forward to the next version.
I like this addon. It's a nice replacement for the bookmarks toolbar for those who don't want to grab the mouse often (keyboard users) and/or want that extra bit of room to read web pages (in my case though, it's the latter). I also like how it automatically adjusts the menu size based on the number of rows selected and the length of the shortcuts' caption. The default hotkeys to bring up the menu and launch a site are easy to reach as well.
The only aspect that prevents me from giving a perfect 5/5 stars is that it would be nice to have the shortcuts clickable when you bring up the menu screen (not possible as of v0.9.5 and I see no option to enable the functionality). This will allow the addon to act as a "complete replacement" for the bookmark toolbars in my opinion (also easier for me than remembering all my shortcut keys although I tried to set them to something as memorable as possible).
Keep it up!
Some bugs with sorting, and don't use as a site's hot-key. But a very nice start.
I like it. Adding web sites could be easier. Currently I keep my most frequented websites in my Bookmarks Toolbar Folder, but that decreases the web page screen size. Would be nice if you could import bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar folder.
Thanks for the positive review.
Import/export features are planned, basic support will probably be included in the version after next.
Nice work, How about if it automatically imports the bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar? or at least offer an option to do that.
Absolutely beautiful and USEFUL too! Feature Request to access a link it's more intuitive to move the mouse cursor to it and just click. Otherwise I'd give it a 5.
Thanks for the generous feedback.
Will be adding optional mouse support in the next version. Keep an eye out for the Beta version.
Well done however it would be better if the links can be clicked by cursor as well. 4 stars
Absolutely awesome. Just what I was looking for since I moved from using Opera to FF. I could probably put a cash value on the amount of time this saves in a year, probably enough to buy a Christmas dinner or three.
I give a 5-star for this extension. Just absolutely what I needed. An option to export and import the sites I add would make it PERFECT! Thanks David for such a great extension. I just reviewed this in my blog.
Awesome add-on. Would love to see a few tweaks though. Having the launch keystroke close the Launcher if it is already opened. Would also be nice if the actual shortcuts were click-able as well as.
Function-wise, it does what it says, and well. It gets a star off because it adds a "Site Launcher" menu to the toolbar, which is pretty much the only thing you can't customize. This is unfortunate.
Thanks for the review.
Just wanted to let you know you can get rid of the Site Launcher menu with a userChrome.css file containing the following:
The file needs to go in your profile's chrome directory, see http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html for more details.
Will probably add an option for this in the next version, a lot of people have requested it.
Now that the key combination (control + shift + s) is editable (in about:config under 'extensions.sitelauncher.shortcutThisPage.key') my nasty rating has disapearde with my moaning. So : the concept of this extension is simple and great, simple like all intelligent inventions. I'd bet it is to become one of those reference extensions.
By the way, concerning Firefox key configuration, I've discovered a neat little extension called... keyconfig, not available (?) on mozilla, but downloadable here : http://mozilla.dorando.at/ , works great.
I think it's nearly perfect, but it could use another hotkey to open a site in a new tab from the launcher window.
EDIT : key combination : shift + control + s
New link to page can be added with , but this sequence is already used by delicious, by Menu Editor and by who knows how many more extensions. When will extension developpers understand that key shortcuts must be editable? This is a real pain, so I'll rate it consequently.
I wasn't sure if I'd find this useful, but I gave it a shot. It does what it says and is quite simple. Hit two keys to bring up the interface and then press one key to select a site. There are a handful of predefined sites you may want to use or you can edit or replace them with your own. You can use any alphanumeric and some additional keys. Then double it if you don't mind hitting SHIFT as well. That gives you at least 80 sites you could list on this. Of course, I only need it for the handful that I frequent most so a dozen or so is plenty and it beats hitting the bookmarks (in fact, I can remove that bar from the browser interface entirely now, since that's all I used it for before).
Great add-on...Completely customizable and usefull...
