I like the tabs on top. That works better for my visual processing. I would like to have the option to have them on top of the screen.
Positives: It works, it's compatible with ColorfulTabs and Tab Mix Plus.
Negatives: Multiple Tab Handler doesn't work with it. Short tab titles get centered, instead of uniform left aligning. It doesn't hide during fullscreen videos.
If you like this deprecated extension, you could try Vertical Tabs Reloaded, which seems similar but with a couple fixes (left aligning & hiding on fullscreen).
1. When option "Display tabs on the right" is on, side panel "bookmarks" is on the right too. Bad.
2. Fixed tabs - are separate tabs. Very bad. Look at "Tree Style Tabs"
Works great, but when watching videos in fullscreen mode the tab panel should not be visible, because that's no "fullscreen" mode then. ;)
When you move pinned tab up and down, addon functionality break completely and you need to restart browser.
(on Firefox 41 with addons)
So far its been working great after a week.
Was looking for something more performant than Tree Style Tabs, but this doesn't support pinned tabs and has a huge gray area to the right of it where neither websites nor tabs can go.
Alas, it's far too buggy to use.
The first add-on of this kind that I have tried, but it's so simple and clear that other variants and I don't need
Ignores colors and fonts and looks of the GUI. For me, the minuscule font of tab titles make this extension unusable.
2. Not sure at first about the centering of shorter tab labels – might be misleading by suggesting a subtab opened from the previously listed one. But I guess I'll quickly get used to this.
Given that most website are still formatted for 4:3 it saves a lot of space on screen, but it has major issues. Mainly its still visible in fullscreen mode (eg. youtube)...
Love this Addon. Saves lot of space and searching..
Works, till it starts randomly throwing your tabs where it wants to. Namely off screen 50 tabs up. Which it does often. Has done it since I first installed 1-2 years ago. LOL! lost this tab in the mess and took me a few minutes to re find.
5 Stars for a no cruft extension that just simply puts tabs on the side. But 1 star because it adds its own styling. Styling should be done via themes. This blue bg and font is quite hideous btw. Averages to a 3 rating. I wrote a user script to restore the default look. Its at https://userstyles.org/styles/105949/restores-default-styling-for-side-tabs-add-on. It also, unlike side tabs, handles pinned tabs.
While it looks nice when first installed, it needed to be promptly uninstalled... Here's why: When attempting to move tabs up/down the list, all tabs below the one I wanted to move flew off the screen to the left ( bar was on the left too ) and no matter where I tried moving the tabs, it always ended up at the bottom.
Thanks for creating this addon.
Brilliant to put the tabbar on the left so you can read titles and more tabs at one glance.
It has nice concept but is still buggy and unstable.
Tested in Firefox 32.
*** Beware! Removal is not restartless! ***
The tabbar fails to restore after you remove the addon. You have to restart to recover the original tabbar.
* Buggy to move tab. The tab may jump to an unexpected location.
* The tabbar becomes invisible when in the Customize Firefox page (toolbar menu > "Customize..."). You have no way out.
* There is a thick blue line between the tabbar and the content area (where browser displays the webpage), wasting precious browse space.
* It does not fit the default style of Firefox. Only a plain purple-blue, instead of using the Firefox skin as the tabbar skin.
3 stars due to the bugs. Please keep it up.
it's usually great and works, when it doesn't you have to remove and re-install and it opens every tab in a new window but doesn't show them except when you close the one in front. Definitely the best tab addon for keeping your upper screen space free; the only one that lets you put tabs on the right, and wide enough to read titles.
Can't seem to get the tabs on the right if All-in-One Sidebar is on the left. In fact, they seem to sync position (they're always on the same side) whenever you change the options on either add-on.
Mostly works on FF28 (NOT tried yet on FF30+). Glitch with private tab button at top of tab bar. Also some users don't like the "centred" tab text, I edited style.css to change 2 x "center" to "left". But overall Vertical Tabs still works best, tho I'm using the dev build off Github (DarrinHenein's page) and editing the .RDF to allow install on v28-35. (Tabkit 2nd ed also has them). I am doing this because the glitches are a concern and the extension hasn't been updated or responded for a while. But basically yes it's good.
Worked fine in FF28. Pinned tabs showed the web page name, just like unpinned tabs. But in FF30, unpinned tabs still show the page name (no difference from FF28), but PINNED tabs show just an icon, but no description. Still usable, but now very inconvenient. Please fix - that will bring it back to being a 5 star add-on.
Thank you for the nice add-on. Works great.
It would be nice if there were a toggle button to hide and expand the tab panel.
I run a lot of open tabs down the left side of the browser. FF 29 blew up Tree Style Tabs and my perception is that it has major problems. I went to Tree Style Tabs several years ago after a version update caused tons of problems with Vertical Tabs and I had to drop it.
I've been with FF since before it was even called Firefox and tab extensions have always been notorious for blowing up after major updates. It's been several years since I've had an issue but FF 29 has brought me to giving Side Tabs a try. The 4 star review is tentative. I haven't had a chance to give it a fair test. It has fixed the immediate issue. Now I need to put it to work - the true test.
I am seeing two issues with Side Tabs. First, it has a glitch in that the very top bar has 'lost' space. The close, minimize, and maximize buttons are just barely visible; a few pixels. It's easy to hit the new menu icon and accidentally close FF.
Second, there are 10 - 15 pixels of wasted space to the left of the tab bar for some reason also (plus maybe half that on the right); seems to be part of a background behind the tab strip.?
Other than that, things are good. Losing tabs down the side is a major issue for my workflow and I'm happy to be giving Side Tabs a try.
EDIT - Moving tabs around is VERY glitchy; unusable really. Sometimes I like to be able to adjust the order. The tabs go all wonky when I try to change the order.
Working perfectly up to todays 29 update FF
Now its broken ..there is some stupid ugly semi visible bars on each side..Firefox did something and now its hilarious..
Works, puts tabs on side. Seems to remember the "tabs on right" setting after a reboot. Can not reorder tabs by dragging. Hides the "Firefox" menu button (shows up when Menu Bar hidden). Close tab button only visible on active tab.
