Very useful, please update to Firefox 57+!
Time to get it up to date with FF Quantum. Has been a great Add on up to now.
I NEED TO HAVE THIS URL SHORTNER BACK
SINCE THE UPDATE PF MOZILLA ITS GONE AND THERE IS NO OTHER CONVENIENT ADD-ONS
Please enable login with personal bily account
as described. i only wish keyboard shortcuts could be disabled. thanx
More awesome if google url shortener could be used.
This is one of the Firefox extensions that I used the most, until it became incompatible with the e20s (Electrolysis) multiprocess.
And it will also stop working when the stable version of Firefox 57 will be released.
Please make a WebExtension version of Shortly.
5 stars while it was compatible.
Had to create my own addon (shorten me) to fill in the gap in my workflow.
Feel free to use the code
The addon block multiprocess tabs firefox feature known as electrolysis (e10s). Please make it work.
The Add-on works on my FF clients back to normal in win & LM + Ubuntu! Thank you!
Add-On quit working in Firefox 49.0.2.
Minimalist, simple, fast, just what I was looking for.
I've used this add-on for many years now and it has proven to be the best. The only thing I miss is the option to switch between service providers.
Working again with Firefox 39.0 as of July 8, 2015. Excellent, simple URL shortener.
Since I updated my firefox, it just stopped working. Only returns: "Shortly Generated short URL '(null)' and sopied you clipboard". It's a shame, but I have to install another URL shortener.
On every page I have tried to use this addon, it says it copies "(null)" to the clipboard and fails to create a shortened URL. I have tried restarting the browser and reinstalling the addon, neither worked. This addon would be very helpful if it worked. It supports keyboard shortcuts and the feature to automatically copy to the clipboard is very useful, but as it stands the addon is not functional.
Running: Firefox 38.0.5
Mac OS X 10.10.3
Thanks for raising this issue. The bitly account used internally by this version (1.25) of the addon has hit its monthly limit. I am trying to release a newer version (1.60) which uses a different set of keys. The newer version would work, but it has not been reviewed completely yet. You can find it here (https://addons.mozilla.org/EN-US/firefox/addon/shortly-url-shortener/versions/?page=1#version-1.60)
I do not recommend installing versions that are not reviewed, as you would be trusting the author of the addon to not break anything.
The current version (1.25) would start working from 1st of July onwards.
Regret the inconvenience caused.
Very good Add-on only... NOT supported by Facebook with it's own links
The FB does not expanding it.
So I need to fetch the whole link
Once it used to work with.
Can you/will you fax it?
I was about to write a review saying that it didn't work at all. And then I discovered that the reason it wasn't working was because the hostname part of the URLs I was trying were not fully qualified domain names. Shortly was saying "generating short url '(null)' and copied to clipboard".
The upshot of this is that actually Shortly does work really well (on properly qualified URLs) Thank you!
(A request is that it would be good for Shortly to report a meaningful error if bit.ly refuses to generate a short url, rather than reporting that a '(null)' link had been created and copied to the clipboard.)
Thank you very much for the feedback. I'll fix it up!
You need to change the icon. It does not reflect anything to do with shortening url. I always forget I have it installed because the icon is nonsensical. Works great though.
Perfect addon! Instant (faster than every similar addon i tried), very customizable and works flawlessly.
Please update this to work with Firefox 5.0.1 thanks!!!!!!!!!
Alosh did a geat job on v. 1.04b that I just Beta tested!
"The Shortly icons are now added to the right-click menu and url box. All of this is configurable from add-on -> preferences. Also, a button is available that could be added to the top panel (right-click -> customize)."
come back one of these days for the new version!!!
Works fine even with Firefox 4.0. What I miss is the option to copy shortened links directly to the clipboard from right-clicking links on websites, as did the "TinyUrl Generator", which sadly isn't compatible with Firefox anymore.
Agree. I'll add the same.
This is a marvelous product design. Thinking about it makes absolute sense.
Why do you need a shortened url? Yeah, the idea is straight forward to share. When you see a website you like, you click on the url or shorten, copy and paste wherever you want to.
What does this plugin do?
It gives you a keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Alt+S" to do all of the above. It shortens and copies to your clipboard the shortened url. Now all you need to do is go ahead and paste wherever you want.
Nice, simple, and functional, but it would be nice if it automatically copied the shortened URL to the clipboard.
