Very simple addon which doesn't cause other search engines to crash, unlike the more popular "organize search engines". The latter clashes with the Mycroft search extension so that you can't add search engines from that site. This addon is super simple and it works.

Hope you fix it,thank you.

no problems found

Hi. Just checked on FF 10.0.2 and it works like a charm. No problems here. This part of code haven't really changed since FF3 so maybe some other extension is at fault. Did you try reinstalling?

Excellent add-on! Makes search engines much easier to find in the list, yeah we could sort them manually but when you have a good few this makes it much much easier. One of my top add-ons, thank you

Any chance you can add a feature to randomly select a search engine each time you start/restart the browser? Would add some fun and variety. ;)

Review for Search Engine Sorting Version 1.0.3. This version for Firefox 3.5.1 is still in the sandbox at the minute but I have installed it and it works perfectly, thank you! I used the old version on Fx 2 and it sorted them within seconds, this in an invaluable add-on as the search engine feature should have an option to be sorted alphabetically for ease of use! The 'other' main browser which I dislike auto sorts them, so why not Firefox? Nobody would go to a library and look for a book if they just stuck them in any old pile with no order. This small (2kb!) add-on fixes that and no conflicts, same goes for this sandboxed version. In 2 words: invaluable and needed. Thank you!

@Michael
You can get around this by doing the following:
* Download the xpi
* Open it with an archiving tool like 7-zip
* Edit the install.rdf - look for an entry called maxversion and change 3.0.* to 3.5.*
* Save the file and put back in the archive (if you didn't edit it directly from the archive).
*If SES is already installed uninstall and then reinstall using this xpi.
Disclaimer: This works for me - YMMV. If it breaks I will deny everything :-).

Update/Bump? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This could definitely use an update to 3.5. Use it frequently and miss it.

is this compatible with Organize Search Engines? I don't want to mess up my Firefox profile by installing it, but I would like to use the two extensions together...

Thank you very much! I needed this add-on, I have many search engines installed and if I try and sort them manually it can freeze sometimes and it always takes aeons. Top marks! It works perfectly in Fx 2.0.0.20 using version 1.0.2 and just trying it in Fx 3.0.6.

There is a slight GUI bug in the latest version. In sortbtn.xul, there is a extra "/>" after the second button is closed. This shows in the interface.

If only it would be possibe to arrange engines into folders like in OSE) while mentaining it's very small size it would make a perfect gem :)

Just a note -- this extension does work perfectly in FF3 -- just have to use Nightly Tester Tools to force the install.

What the other people says:

1. Make it built in in Firefox.

2. Make it work in Firefox 3.

Thanks!

Should be standard in Firefox Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great extension! I don't understand why such a trivial function isn't in Firefox by default. Could you please make it compatible with Firefox 3?

It could use a 3.0 update at this time, but other than that this extension is great. This is one of those features that should be built into the browser from the get-go.
