Version 3.3.1-signed 50.7 kB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later

This fixes the error for the "edit diectories" dialog. Apperently there were some internal changes in firefox that removed labels for standard buttons such as "add" "remove" which caused this dialog to produced an exception window only.

Version 3.2.1-signed 50.2 kB Works with Firefox 3.5 and later

changes 28 June 2012
the changes relate to the suggested file name for url link files

Apart from the fixes the changes are meant to bring the suggested filename in line with the "drag link from address bar behavior" in standard firefox functionality

1. fix for an issues on OS Mac in relation to the handling of character "&"
(the character is removed because the webloc file is XML, could have replaced by & but didn't)
2. character "\" was not properly replaced in the regular expression
3. "." character does not need to be replaced
4. the replacement character is now emptry instead of "_"

* Added a Greek version.
* Update for Firefox 4

Version 2.1 13.3 kB Works with Firefox 1.5 - 3.7a5pre

This version has improvements when using the module under UNIX or interchangeably under UNIX and Windows.
1. It has been tested under more UNIX derivats and file permissions have been changed accordingly. Many thanks to R. Roenn for testing and input.
2. The resulting url(Windows) and desktop(UNIX) file now contain entries for both Operating Systems. The additional entries do not interfere with the normal functioning but they allow that the files may be used interchangebly by renaming them.
This allows URL collections to be used interchangebly between windows and UNIX, if one is prepared to rename.

Version 2.0 13.3 kB Works with Firefox 1.5 - 3.7a5pre

This version adds UNIX and MAC support.
On UNIX systems it creates a file with extension .desktop, for example
[Desktop Entry]

This scenario has been tested on Ubuntu with kind help of Ofir Aviram.

On Mac systems it creates a webloc file with extension .webloc
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

I have also removed the character '.' from the file name, because there is a problem on Windows
when the file name containes a '.', for example
"WEBLOC File Extension - Open .WEBLOC files.url"
this is then converted to
"WEBLOC File Extension - Open _WEBLOC files.url

Version 1.3.1 12.3 kB Works with Firefox 1.5 - 3.6.*

There has been a hebrew version added.
Please contact me, if you want and are ready to do a translation,
which doesn't take much time. I have done it now once
and it works quite well. So far there is en-US,de-DE,fr-FR, he-IL.

Version 1.3 11.3 kB Works with Firefox 1.5 - 3.6.*

This version deals with rather technical problems. but it should affekt those instances when Firefox is running in a foreign environment. In fact, this is how I noticed the problem by running a french Firefox in a german OS environement. There it produced a nasty
"Erreur : uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIStringBundle.GetStringFromName]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: XStringBundle :: getString :: line 17" data: no]"
which lead to a failure to open the file save dialog.
On the internet I noticed, that a lot of other Add-Ons run into that same problem.
This problem is now solved with this version

Version 1.2 11.3 kB Works with Firefox 1.5 - 3.6.*

You can now also save a link to a focussed hperlink on a page in addition to a link to the page itself.
So it is a additional option you have. Say for example you are looking at some Google results.
It would now be possible to save a link to one of the results directly without opening that result.
This was a suggestion by Mel P (05.11.2009 ).
I think that might be useful.
So if you select nothing, you save a link to the current page, if an the other hand you right click on a hyperlink, you will save a link to the page that the hyperlink is pointing at and it is that page, that will be opened if you click of the url file.
You can also tell what option you have chosen by looking at the open dialog title.

Version 1.1.1 10.2 kB Works with Firefox 1.5 - 3.6.*
