Shawn ... you are my personal hero for today ;o))
After updating to FF_3.6 two things were really annoying me: the placing of new tabs (right beside the current one) and this stupid "new tab button". So: thank you, thank you and one for the weekend: thank you!

Love it, I was constantly hitting that button while trying to close other tabs.

THANK GOODNESS for this - I was trying to figure out why the new tab button suddenly reappeared after an update...thanks so much for this extension, and yes, the button was a DEALBREAKER for me if it couldn't be deleted - an absolute nuisance!

THANK GOD! I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the new tab button suddenly appeared after an update. Thanks so much, I almost gave up on FF but I'm in too deep now..hahaha.The new tab button is absolutely a nuisance!

Unnecessary in my view Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Don't really see any need for this. The "open new tab" button is unobtrusive. It requires only one mouse-click. The context menu method requires two. Anyone new to firefox may not realise you can get a new tab by right-clicking, whereas the button is plain for all to see.

Just what I've been looking for. :-)

Thank you! This works.
[The first thing I did after updating to 3.5 was googling for how to remove the 'New Tab -button'. It's absolutely horrid and totally unnecessary.]

Well that was easy! Totally works for me! I tried adding the (display:none) but I couldn't get it to work. This addon, however, works like a charm! Thanks!

You can achieve the same thing just by adding

.tabs-newtab-button {display: none;}

to your userChrome.css file

Thanks, I hated that button. I even had a dream last night that Firefox had removed it, but when I woke up, nothing had changed

You could do the same thing by editing your userChrome.css.

Here are some sites which will lead you through editing userChrome.css to hide the new tab button:

Great addon but has a bug Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great addon but has a bug that needs to be fixed.

I have GrApple Tangy 2.0.5 theme installed in my firefox 3.5.2. After I installed this "Remove New Tab button 1.0" addon, and opened like 4 - 6 tabs, the whole tab bar starts shaking. This problem was not there before I installed it.

OMG thanks.

I just updated and thought I had installed IE7, and had a small fit.

Can you make the next version so you can ex off a 'tab' if you only have 1 open (ie choose to always show tab bar"?) like in the previous version of firefox?
