You are a PIMP!!!! this is THE add on..if someone isn't using this they are absolute noobs...if someone doesn't like this they are absolute lames. thanks for making my internet life ROCK!
Random Google search for something to remove certain elements of a webpage, found this first try.
Did EXACTLY what I wanted it to do, removing certain pieces of a website that were annoying and oversized, which it very annoying to navigate on the website sometimes. 5 Stars for doing exactly what I wanted.
THIS THING ROCKS!!!!!!!!! BETTER THAN MANY OTHER CRAP BLOCKERS
I've been using Remove It for nearly 5-6 years now. One of the best add-ons I have ever used for Firefox.
one thing for further versions: on page refresh it should be possible to set "preview" time and set it to 0 too.
I want to translate your add-on to my language. Please add it in BabelZilla.
The "RIP Advanced" options in the context menu can remove especially nasty and sticky content that Adblock's "Element Hiding Helper" can NOT remove (like slideshows with constantly updated pictures). In one case I had to experiment and click to remove the same field several times (although it was already empty) until it completely disappeared.
Thank god for this addon, i tried others to remove elements and they were overlycomplicated, simplicity is the key to beauty. Thank you.
Super duper add-on. If I had only known it exists earlier...
Well, its a good idea, but it have lots of bugs, one of them is sometimes if you block an item another one with no relation get blocked, i hope you fix these bugs.
great extension, but export/import doesn't seem to work. I can export/import to a RIP file, and it's enabled, but it doesn't work
Good but I prefer "Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus"
glad to finally see it in Minefield! & it still works perfectly, just like it did in Firefox
Wow (that means "ouf", which means "great") -- Before Firefox 4 I used an extension called "Web Personal Cleaner" to accomplish what 'Remove It Permanently' (RIT) performs much better I must say, with extended options moreover. This is brilliant :) RIT permanently kept!
Version 188.8.131.52 works perfectly with Firefox 4. Thanks for the update. The red outline is shown now when ripping something.
To those who are looking for the latest version, go to the bottom of this page and click 'View all versions".
hmm the http://rip.mozdev.org/ website
says there's a version 184.108.40.206 updated for ff4 , and links here ,but here it still shows 220.127.116.11
If this happens to become unsupported and obsolete, there's a very similar add-on called the Element Hiding Helper for AdBlock Plus. It also stores rules for permanent removal of page elements, and it also uses a WYSIWYG approach and has already been updated for Firefox 4.
Also, NEVER download and install an unverified XPI file from an unknown source (e.g. box.net)! You could be walking right into a malware trap. How do you know what's been done to that XPI file? If all you need is a version bump, there are automated tools, like MR Tech Toolkit, that can force compatibility with new FF versions. Of course things might break doing it, so caveat emptor/YMMV/etc.
The fix that user001 posted, makes this work on 4.0 beta 10. There is only 1 small thing that does not work with this fix, there is no outline of what you are removing, but with an undo option, that is not really a big deal. Thanks, I was thinking I might have to go back to the old version.
Honestly, I cannot use FF without certain extensions. Remove It Permanently happens to be one of them. The newest version can be found scrolling to the BOTTOM of THIS page and looking for VIEW ALL VERSIONS. There you will see the newest update that works with FF4.
Easy enough to figure out, and mistakes are easily fixed. It's a powerful tool that works. My favorite site configured it's code so Adblock disables the entire site, but the ads follow you down the page. This is the only way I've found to stop them. I deduct 1 star only for no help or instructions inside the add-on itself. This would help a layman understand usage.
I have long regarded this as the “Ninja” version of the remove contents addons. It provides with control and precision, and really “cuts through” to most troublesome ads, leaving behind relievingly “silent” pages. And as others mention, works very well in tandem with NoScript and Ad Block Plus. Thanks!
I really like this addon in combination with NoScript and Ad Block Plus as it really helps in removing those damned ads which both of these other extensions fail to block properly.
One of my favorite addon
Very good design for configuring content to remove, the preview is very helpful. Import and export functions so you can save / transfer to another PC.
It isn't prefect. Often does not RIP a page after the initial load. For example using a search button on the page reloads with all the original content. I've adjusted the URL to be domain wide as the RIP website describes, same issue.
Good idea in theory but doesn't work in concept. Every relevant webpage element I wanted to hide could not be hid properly with this addon. In the best case scenario a simple refresh will restore what's hidden - in other cases, the element was automatically restored. I haven't found any instance where the removal was "permanent".
If this addon could create rules for things like forums with multiple similar pages, or even if it actually did what it says it does, it would be a pretty useful addon.
