Not functioning - Abandoned? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

On FF 45 unable to add rules, the dialog box just doesn't respond. Based on the Github and what other reviews are saying this appears to be abandoned.

May be abandoned Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Unfortunately, many widgets aren't working in newer releases of Firefox, and it's not even completely clear whether the rules work, either - I have a "skip" rule set up to fix the extension breaking Google logins, but it's no longer working.

I remain baffled as to why the addons.mozilla.org administrators haven't set up a process to report abandonware.

Referrer Control, RefControl both lacking but. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This doesn't work when trying to set a custom referrer, the options menu would suggest it can but it isn't working and appears limited to the options listed in the drop down menu.

There is RefControl, which does work for that and is also compatible with older versions of Firefox and Palemoon. So it looks like going back to RefControl.

It's still unfortunate but one would have to have both installed to have certain referrer controlling abilities as RefControl doesn't let you go by both/either source and target URLs while Referrer Control does but seems to be lacking the custom referrer option, such as sending a certain referrer when going to a certain site.

Works great! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

But it could do we a wee bit more instruction.
Where it says: "The default preferences is good enough to make it work in a smart way, that is block the referrer on third-party request only. It is out of the box for protect privacy
purpose"
Ya sure ok kewl but what is the default?
I boobooed, I changed it and it doesn't say what the default was!

THX dude !

Oh ya... for the freak pushing his Chinese god there...

Works nice, however I don't understand what the different policies do and there's no description.
(neither here nor on GitHub)

I also don't understand how to add new rules: should I type only hostnames or URLs or wildcards or regexps...

Easy to use, light weight, but in some cases very inconvenient. Imagine you have to change your default policy in order to get certain URL-specific rule work as you want. Custom rules should override the default policy.

Great, but not perfect Rated 3 out of 5 stars

At the first sight it might seem more intuitive than RefControl, but it is not. I completely agree with arguments orbisvicis listed in one of the previous revue. Additionally, I like to point out, that if you don't use Referer very often, then you better served with RefControl. Although in that matter the add-on that I prefer is HeaderControlRevived. It is better than RefControl because it offers UserAgent and Language options and it is definitely better than Referer Control, because it work in the background and does its work as effectively as Referrer Control.

While the source/target specification is an innovation over RefControl, making this addon especially useful for search engines, in other regards it regresses the functionality found in RefControl. The option "Ignore same domains request" is a blanket default that cannot be overridden on a per-site basis. Therefore the following functionality provided by RefControl is not possible:

* Default to removing the referrer only for 3rd party requests, yet completely remove this header (even when same domain) for specific sites.

* default to completely removing the referrer (3rd party & same domain), yet allow this header (same-domain) for specific sites.

In any case the approach used by RefControl - to treat the fallback/default rule as any other rule, with all the same options and control - is much more intuitive than Referrer Control's UI.

It is better than Refcontrol because it provides more options and the default config protects privacy automatically: install and you are ready to go.
