While the source/target specification is an innovation over RefControl, making this addon especially useful for search engines, in other regards it regresses the functionality found in RefControl. The option "Ignore same domains request" is a blanket default that cannot be overridden on a per-site basis. Therefore the following functionality provided by RefControl is not possible:

* Default to removing the referrer only for 3rd party requests, yet completely remove this header (even when same domain) for specific sites.

* default to completely removing the referrer (3rd party & same domain), yet allow this header (same-domain) for specific sites.

In any case the approach used by RefControl - to treat the fallback/default rule as any other rule, with all the same options and control - is much more intuitive than Referrer Control's UI.

It is better than Refcontrol because it provides more options and the default config protects privacy automatically: install and you are ready to go.

Awesome! I used to use RefControl, but this is better. However there is a graphic problem with the new Menu in Firefox 29: if the button is placed in the Menu, the icon doesn't appear. Thanks for your work!

Nice. I like this add-on.
My experiences.
Video(mpg) doesn't play in google plus if default policy is remove.

Works ... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Works nicely. Somtimes has to be turned off to get things working (which is not the add-on's fault), and this can be done with a single click, which I appreciate.

Works great in FF Windows - but refuses to install in Android Tablet under FF v. 26.0.1 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks muzuiget!
The instructions in your reply to my question (below),work perfectly on my FF 19 browser in a Win desktop.

But when I tried to install "Referrer Control" in the Firefox browser of my Tablet:
(latest Android 4.2.2 Samsung TAB3 P5200 10.1 screen),

the FF addons site, says:
"cannot install Referrer Control because the version of my FF browser is: FF 26.0.1 (latest)".

Yet, the FF addon site, says that
the great "Referrer Control" addon should work OK
with "FF version 26.0".

Yet, it refuses to install in my Android Tablet.

Help from the master, please!
thanks,inSF

Not support Firefox for Andorid yet. The extension install page should mark as not compatible with mobile version Firefox. Force to instal will give you that error message.

I used to use RefControl which in comparison is old unreliable.

This though works well and is sensibly done, it lets you specify both source and target URLs and works reliably, though a rather simple little addon referrer control is important to me and this one seems to have no flaws so far.

Excellent and very useful add-on from the privacy category. It is much easier to handle referrers now, than using temporary changes directly in about:config. Not to mention about custom source-target rules (the other similar add-ons provide whitelists or source control only which sends the same ref to all 3-p from a single site).

I wanted to suggest adding three checkboxes from options to context menu for fast access, but now I see in your wiki that policies accept wildcards/regexps so this can be achieved with a second rule - awesome!

BTW. You should point out that "skip" as well as other modes work only if "network.http.sendRefererHeader" is not 0. This setting seems to have the highest priority.

works ootb Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I was using smart referer but I noticed that the referer was the link of the host source so it didn't work as expected. Referer Control works out of the box, the referer in the http request header is indeed removed. I tried to specify source host and it is the right referer so for me this extension does the job I'm looking for. Thank for your work !

I'm very sorry, I completely forgot the green button (which was in fact gray before I activated it). It's a little bit confusing, but it's good to have a toolbar button. Thanks for your help. I give your extension 5 stars.

Are you forget to click the button make it "active" after first install?

When the extension is activating(or call working), the button icon is color(green).

A test page would be nice.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I think this add-on is confusing. Hopefully the programmer will provide a test page so we can test out the settings.

I changed this review completely since the programmer was nice enough to get back to be. It seemed to me that the add-on wasn't working. Now, I think it's clear the program is I don't fully understand how it works.

[To the programmer - thanks for getting back to me so quickly!]

I tested it at a few places. Here are two

===

Test Browser Referer Headers « Dark Launch
http://darklaunch.com/tools/test-referer

Results - I tried a few enabled settings (and disabled too) I think the test results for the four fields were...
http://darklaunch.com/tools/test-referer
...every single time.

===

Results for disabled and enabled (with "Remove")

HTTP Header Information
http://browserspy.dk/headers.php

HTTP_REFERER http://browserspy.dk/ip.php

Results - each time was the same - there's a referer.

By default Referrer Control only modify the third-party request.

But the test page testcase will GET/POST to the current url, so Referrer Control ignore them.

To pass the test, just uncheck "Ignore the same domains request" in precerences.

Awesome! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Referrer Control is better than RefControl:
1. it's restartless
2. it supports more complex rules, since it lets create ones depending on source URL.
