Really helpful app!!! So useful. Found a great price for a camera I was looking for.
I think you have to have realistic expectations for this addon. it isn't going to work on every website and it won't always get the product right. However since I do most of my online shopping on websites that DO work (amazon, newegg, tigerdirect, etc) I get a nice quick comparison that usually works across 150 of the more popular online retailers.
I have saved money more than once using this. In some cases I have saved a LOT of money.
GoogleJelly is right. They need to add not only the Pound, but they need to add all of the currency worldwide. Hopefully they'll add 10x more reputable retailers in their plug-in. Otherwise a very useful tool for those who want/need to take the time to research the best prices possible.
A lot needs to be improved. The £ seems to be unsupoprted, although it has a few supported sites that use £ and not $ like ccl. This is a real problem for me as this is a great tool to use, but inefective 99% of the time :S
I would give this a higher rating, but unfortunately, I come to myself as it does not really work for me.
If this gets improved and can be used for all currencies then this would be an awesome tool to use.
I have been using price advance for a few months now. Its a really useful price comparison tool. I just noticed they added rebate offers, which was something I requested a few months ago.
Love it! Not only has it helped me find cheaper prices, I didn't even know that some of these sites existed.
I've found it handy a few times while shopping for goods on amazon, even though use Amazon Prime, some products are just not worth buying through them and this gives me a quick way to verify I'm getting an okay price.
I run with firebug and a few other extensions w/o issue.
I looked up an LCD TV on Amazon and got comparisons for washing machines. Uninstalled.
You replied June 28, 2008 to Alek Davis's review on May 19, 2008 and in it you said "Be sure to send along a list of other extensions you have installed." I'm sure there is a "shortcut" to provide that information rather than compiling a list one thing at a time.
BTW, it would be REALLY handy if add-ons (or decent ones) told us what add-ons they conflict with. It would allow us to make a decision which we wanted more, instead of wasting time with something we can't use anyway. Apparently, Developers are more interested in padding their numbers than they are the user. What worries me are all the little tidbits that wind up getting left behind and slow down your computer. The other thing of the same nature that would be helpful is to also tell us what Add-ons are no longer necessary because the new add-ons are better able to fulfill those needs.
I know, developers worry that if they gave that info out, people might decide they are happy with what they have and they don't need theirs. Personally, if a developer was THAT honest with ME... I would be checking out all the OTHER add-ons they have!! (Hey, if nothing else, someone can make an add-on to do the 2 things I just mentioned... List what add-ons are creating conflicts... and what add-ons are providing duplicate services... Also, an something that said how long since the features in the add had been accessed... Are we actually using it??? :)
Fifteen Sites? Is that all? OK, so limited site support and narrowly US-centric (of course). Half way there and no use in the UK.
I do alot of online shopping. I also am really good at searching untilI find the best price on what I'm looking for. So when I saw this add-on, I thought it would be perfect and save me alot of time.
I watched the demo video to make sure I knew how the add-on worked. I went to Amazon and checked out a Canon camera(just like the demo) and sure enough, a window popped up showing other prices.
But... I continued to browse through Amazon to test this add-on, looking at the most popular items such as IPods, Wii's, GPS devices, laptops, etc...you know, the kind of items that are hot sellers at Christmas time. Well, I never got a PriceAdvance window the entire time. Not once after the initial demo item.
So, I'm getting rid of this add-on. I mean if you cant even get a hit on an IPod on Amazon...wow.
Its a great idea, but....doesnt seem to work as expected.
Quite a nice way to shop by price. Saved me more than once now. Don't know how it works, and frankly, I don't care. On the best add-ons I have. And I have tried numerous big name add-ons and wasn't as satisfied with them as with this one. Highly recommend it.
This is great! I was looking for a camera on bestbuy.com and it found 8 other prices for me!
First of all, I could not figure out how this extension works. I installed it and tried on different sites (amazon.com, etc), but did not notice it doing anything. The only thing I noticed was unexpected changes in font sizes on various sites (e.g. Blogspot, SlickDeals, etc); I verified that it was in fact PriceAdvance, which was screwing up font sizes, so I'm uninstalling it now. Too bad: it sounded like an interesting and handy add-on.
The PriceAdvance extension is only active on sites we support prices for (see list in description). After contacting Alex we tested PriceAdvance with the more then 50 extensions he had installed and were unable to replicate the problem. This was the first report about this particular issue. If you ever encounter undesired behavior, please contact us so we can investigate the issue. Be sure to send along a list of other extensions you have installed. Thanks!
Used to work, but the latest has a problem with the status bar. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:18.104.22.168) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/22.214.171.124 - Build ID: 2008040413
