Perfect for simulating XML requests.

Great tool Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have been using the old version for about 2 months, I recently found out that there is a sandbox version for ff3.5. You can download it from http://code.google.com/p/poster-extension/. It is a must have for RESTful webservice developers, you don't need to write scripts anymore in order to invoke your services. I hope version 2.0 be stable soon.

Great tool. But, I still can't abandon my HTTP4E eclipse REST plugin though. Keep up the good work.

Essential Add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a wonderfully easy to use and essential add-on. I rely on it often to test RESTful Web services, and now I can't imagine working without it. Version 2.0.0 adds UI enhancements and makes an excellent add-on even better.

Excellent extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I really cannot imagine testing RESTful APIs without this extension - as previous reviewers wrote, it's a must have!

For those who already switched to FF v3.5 and cannot afford to wait for an official update of Poster, there are two ways how you can make Pinger v1.7.1 work in FF v3.5:

1.) manually update the XPI:
- download the extension to your hard drive
- extract it with any archiving software (i.e. 7-Zip), same way as you would extract a ZIP file
- locate a file called "install.rdf" and open it in a text editor (i.e. Notepad, GreenPad, etc.)
- search for "em:targetApplication" and then find "em:maxVersion" just below it
- change the value from "3.0.*" to "3.5.*"
- pack the file as ZIP and change the extension to XPI
- drag and drop the file into FF3.5 and install

2.) follow this guide:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-237772_39_0.html

Note that both options may break Pinger or make your FF crash ... but I'm using Pinger v1.7.1 updated as per option #1 above for several months now (since FF v3.5b3) and did not encounter any Pinger-related problems so far.

File and Content in POST? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

"You can't have both a file and content to send." - Is this for real? Pretty big limitation. Any chance of adding this functionality?

Awsome tool - could not find anything else out there that lets you test http post without, at a minimum, writing some java script. Great tool.

Great early version!

Would love to be able to SAVE URL's typed in with their parameters - would help so much when testing/debugging larger applications :-)

Nice but I don't want that little "P" on my status bar. It should be a toolbar button. Right now it makes the status bar taller than before Poster is installed.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.7.0).

*sigh*

This is fixed in 1.7.1 in that the toolbar button it uses (which is what it actually is) is smaller and does not have padding. This tool works just like the Firebug addon in that it has a small button in the status bar so that it can easily be accessed when you need it. I often use it relative to the current page.

That said, it might be nice to have a preference to turn this on and off. Unfortunately, that will have to rely on whether or not I have time to make sure an enhancement.

You broke it! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The last version rocked. Probably the most useful plugin I've used for ages. The new version (updated late Jun 08) no longer PUTs correctly! It's now POSTing instead which is useless.

Any chance you can fix this asap?

Fixed in 1.7.1

a must-have for a web services developer Rated 5 out of 5 stars

What the Web Developer Toolbar is for web developers, Poster is for REST-based web services developers (i.e. a MUST have).
