virus warning Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This extension updated itself on my PC and another PC that I use - much to my surprise.
I've been using it by over-riding the compatibility check and it's been fine...

BUT:
On both machines I got a virus/trojan warning and they each have different AV programs.

The warning seemed to center upon a page the update caused to be displayed after, and it did not resemble this add-on's page in any way.

Until this is explained to my satisfaction I will be re-installing v0.3.1 and preventing updates of this add-on.

There's no malware...

There's no malware associated with this add-on or with its firstrun page - what page appears after you update the add-on?

Relating to the below comment which refers to a Bugzilla attachment - a saner way to obtain the attachment (if you wish to trust this user's edits...) is to view the page here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=227922

Otherwise I have used this extension and liked it very much.
I shall use it again now because I wish to also use SyncPlaces which does not get along with Linkification for some reason.
It would be grand if the original author would jump in here and update this to avoid the need for users to hack it instead...

No longer necessary

I've updated the extension to be compatible with the latest version of Firefox.

How to - installation of Plain Text Links 0.3 in Firefox 3.5.

Install 7-zip (free compression software, alternative to winzip). Download the file (textlink.xpi) to your desktop. Right click on the texlink.xpi, choose 7-zip/Open archive. Right click install.rdf file, choose Edit. Change maxVersion from 2.0.0.* to 3.* and save the modified file. 7-zip will ask whether to replace the file in the archive - click OK. Your FF3.5 compatible package is ready.

Open Firefox 3.5 - choose Open File, navigate to your modified textlinks.xpi in Desktop folder. The package will install and you can enjoy the great little app in the newest browser edition!

Unfortunately not compatible with FF 3.5.

I like it.
The only thing I'd like to add is a "default action" in settings - open in new tab.

Cool add-on but too simple Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Almost exactly what I was looking for. I said almost because sometimes I like to visit the homepage before going into the specific page displayed as plain text. For instance, how can I open "abc.com" from the text "abc.com/news"? For this purpose selecting the url and then opening it would have been a good additional feature.

After a mountain of efforts to find a decent simple "send seclect text to a text file' we now have a result, with the Options of setting the Save to folder plus append and otehr functions this is now in my Top 10 list of Essentails Firefox add-ons.

One of the BEST and most-used add-on in Firefox! I have had this for a long time now and can't live without it! Thanks Ted!!

Great helper when you're coming from Opera. Seems to work not under FF3.0, but the addon "Fetch Text URL" does.

Great little extension, that's what I've been missing for quick opening of URLs.

Love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars

After testing several similar extensions I found this one to be easiest and snappiest to use.
No text selecting needed and new tab opens with middle-click or ctrl-left-click.
This should be a default feature in Firefox.

Requires two right clicks for the proper context menu to appear.

I like this add-on as you do not have to select the entire text. Clicking on it is enough.

Strangely enough, I had to reinstall this add-on after upgrading to FF3 although I already had version 0.3. I just refused to update automatically.

It's ok, but I prefer the 'Text Link' add-on from SHIMODA Hiroshi, which works also for URLs that have no space at left and right of text.

URL Selection Glitch? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I use this addon, but double clicking a url that doesn't have a space on either side selects the additional text, so I have to do the selection manually and use the context menu to open. Still better than dragging it to the address bar, and I like the options to use a new window or the existing one.
