Why was Pixel Perfect created?

Pixel Perfect was made to save time in the QA process between designers and developers. While working at a large agency I noticed that there was lots of back and forth between designers and developers to tweak the design to the designers liking. I started to take screen shots of my developed work and paste them over top of the PSD in Photoshop. By turning layers on and off I could see any differences between the composition and my developed HTML. Some differences were minor, but in a lot of cases I was more then a few pixels off. So it just seemed natural to reverse my process and actually overlay the web comp over top of my development work. Again saving time and increasing efficiency in the design / dev process.

Tip for devs: I have also used this plugin to compare fonts to designers when they are trying to trick me into using a non web safe font that looks exactly like Verdana. Essentially what you do is make your HTML look like their non web safe font, then overlay their image of the font. Toggle them back and forth and see if the designer can tell which one is his font. If he cannot tell, I do not see the value of adding sIFR or cufon to the site.

What's next for Pixel Perfect

To continue increasing efficiencies between designers and developers, we would like integrate the 960 grid ( system into our add on. If the designers used the 960 templates and the developer used the 960 css this would make both our lives a lot easier. We are looking into adding some default grid templates that can be turned on underneath your html, potentially as a body background while you are developing so you no longer have to reference your comp until your are closer to the end of development time. Not only is this going to speed up development time, its going to keep designers happy and leave you with a very clean finished website. Suggestions are always welcome, so do not hesitate to contact us at anytime.

Also, support for multiple overlays turned on at the same time is also coming soon.
