Helpful for quick checks of some links smaller pages, but not useful for "bigger" tasks Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Pinger 1.0.4 is really helpful for quick checks of some links of smaller pages, e.g. a collection of code snippets and URLs to further reading, or your personal notes for a project with links to further / official information.

But it is not that useful for "bigger" tasks as the user interface is not supportive enough, e.g.
* you can't jump to the next link that isn't OK (e.g. broken, skipped, no header returned)
* in my short tests, the report did open several times _behind_ the page content and I had to make it visible via changes of the style in the DOM - that's OK to do for a few pages but not for dozens
* the statistics just show the amount of timed out links or those without response header, but does not list them like the broken links, so you need to visually search the bad links
* the list of broken links just enumerates the link title as text (they're not links and the target URL is not shown), so if you have certain known limitations (e.g. due to user rights) you can't quickly tell apart which broken links require action and which don't.

Example statistics for the pinger add-on page:

Pinger statistics
1 Ok links: 184
2 Broken links: 3
3 Timed out links: 20
4 No header returned: 1
5 Skipped links: 30
Test duration: 45 seconds

Szybkie, proste i użyteczne narzędzie, w kilka sekund pokaże gdzie na stronie jest link, zwłaszcza jeśli kolor linków i tekstu jest taki sam.

Way! Really fast!
I decided to check by this way all my bookmarks (about 2500).
So, I created list of all my bookmarks by addon "My Bookmarks" and invoked Pinger to check this enormous amount of links. I didn't believe, that Pinger would be able to check all of them by reasonable time frame.
But it did that! It worked as gladiator, but checked all links in 48 seconds, but found a lot of time outed links. I increased the timeout to 450 seconds and repeated the check. This time he worked 198 seconds, but no link was timeouted! Bravo!
It found a lot of broken links and other problematic links, highlighted them and tried to list such links (one by one) separately.
But the list was big and only the top 20 such links I could read (the window that lists such links doesn't have scroller).
So, I have only one to ask - to add scroller to this window.
Thank you

A great lightweight add-on. Only one I know that you can copy-paste the results for quick reporting.

Good but I think it has bug! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I liked it a lot at the beginning (run it for the first time). However, after it runs it keep on showing same result on bottom right of the browser and whenever I need to run on other tab or new fresh page. It doesn't run at all. Looks like there is bug. Or am I doing something wrong? I tried uninstalling and installed for several times already. It repeats same problem. It runs smoothly for the first time only!! :(

Found the solution and re-rated to 5 star :)

Solution is don't use same browser or tab. Start using fresh new browser to run the test!

At the reviewer below me, the interface is quite easy to use. Just right click anywhere on the page you want to check. That's even illustrated in one of the screenshots.

I love it. Fast , accurate and easy.

How is it started Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The user interface stinks. I can't figure out how to start the thing. Does that information exist anywhere? Is it in the Tools menu? No. Is it on a toolbar? No. File? Edit? View? No, no, no. I am sorry to be so negative, but I HATE lousy user interfaces.

Amazing how many weeks you always need to update it quickly for the new FF version. Annoying as hell!

Great Add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Any chance it will be made compatible with Firefox 4?

Great Add-On Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great add-on, but I wish there was a way to stop it once you start. If I am on a page with thousands of links most likely it will hang up on one or two and totally shut down my Firefox window. The only remedy is to close Firefox and reload.

no work sometimes Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Doesn't seem to work on pages with (lots) of tracking code. It reports all links as good, even when they are not.

code reference Rated 4 out of 5 stars

See the Link Status extension for Firefox. It puts a bookmarked/visited/unvisited star icon in the status bar but I like pinger's colored-links approach better if you could add this feature.

visited/unvisited colors Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like this! But it doesn't solve the problem I have. More & more web pages are displaying all links as unvisited whether I have visited them or not.

I want pinger to color visited & unvisited (according to my history) links differently. (You could also give bookmarked links their own color.)

It would also be nice if pinger would run automatically whenever I go to a URL which matches a wildcard list of URLs I have entered in its options.

great but in the wrong place Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great plugin. Clean, simple, does its job without fuss. But I have to agree with scramber, at the top of the right-click menu is just the wrong place for it. Checking links is one those need-it-when-you-need-it things, but you don't need it that often.
