Why was Perapera Chinese Popup Dictionary created?

I was starting to study Chinese around 2005 and one of my roommates at the time (we were teaching English in Japan) challenged me to make this after I made a comment that this sort of software would be the best way to study Chinese. He was doubting me a bit, so I took 2 weeks and created the first version. Once it was done I thought many students of Chinese and Japanese would find this useful as well, so released it on Firefox.

Now 6 years later, I am actually back in Japan and so is he, so in 2011 we joined up to create this new version and start Perapera Language Tools. We have many ideas for optimal ways to study different languages (we are language geeks) and are working on different apps to help those students just like this plugin has helped people for Chinese and Japanese.

What's next for Perapera Chinese Popup Dictionary

Korean has always been on the backburner, but hasn't progressed much because of a lack of a quality dictionary and lack of expertise in Korean. I have found a suitable dictionary we can use for the plugin, so the only hurdle is some Korean knowledge, but thankfully from support of the community we have some people that are willing to help with this and next will be a Korean version.

After that, we have ideas for Russian and Arabic tools that will be useful in studying those languages. So keep tuned, more goodness to come :)
