What once awakened my love of the computer was the day my mouse broke, and I needed to learn to use a computer without one. Twenty years later, at a time when every webpage and program expects you to use a mouse to do everything, this plugin is a breath of fresh air.

As a developer by day, the best tools in my kit by far are the console (in my case, PowerShell), GVim, and Firefox + Pentadactyl. I've had a love/hate relationship with FF over the years, but this plugin is THE REASON why I continue to use it. In addition to making repetitive browsing easier (I remember the hint numbers for several elements on frequently-browsed websites), I find that I can browse the web with far greater ease using this plugin with infrequent mouse usage. The learning curve is steep, but for vim users it shouldn't be long before you pick it up.

Among my favorite features is the use of a third-party text editor for compositing (CTRL+i in a text field or textarea), a feature that is sorely lacking in other browsers. Performance seems to lag somewhat (even running FF, cache, and profiles on ramdisk), but it easily pays for itself with productivity.

This is a great extension. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes vim or keyboard shortcuts.

Impressive as Heck, but it ain't VIM Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Interesting, impressive, a formidable amount of development and work. But it ain't VIM.

I use VIM on a daily basis. But when I tried to use Pentadactyl to browse, I spent virtually all my time in the add-on's Help files.

The underlying idea of Pentadactyl is interesting: Navigate Web pages with VIM commands. But the problem is that there are so many non-VIM commands and options that need to be learned before you can then use a handful of actual VIM commands to move around a bit. What might have made Pentadactyl work better was to use a GVIM approach so that users could incrementally learn Pentadactyl's unique commands and so ease in to more sophisticated usage.

Pentadactyl was fun to play with and explore, but in the end I needed to disable / uninstall it so I could actually use Firefox to view Web pages…

Better then Vimium (chrome)!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I miss vimium (chrome), but i discovered pentadactyl and its is way better, just need some tweaks and can work (and looks) like vimium.

Amazing addon. I put emacs bindings on it, and can no longer stand to browse the web without it.

Excellent extension, tied with Firebug for my most useful Firefox extension in general. Vimium can't hold a candle to it, and Vimperator's customization is anemic in comparison.

The only thing I'd ask for is that the authors merge in some of the UI changes the Vimperator guys have made, including the option for animations.

Memory Leak :( Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Fantastic Extension. I was too dumb to learn all the commands :P A few hours after I had removed it from my system OSX told me that my startup disk was almost full. Which it shouldn't be... There's no way I had filled more than 1/5th of it. So I used "Daisy disk" to find the issue. And it was a file called Pentadactyl_1.txt. If this didn't happen, I'd give this amazing extension 5 stars.

Someday I'll Pay My Debt Rated 5 out of 5 stars

These few days after the firefox 9.0 update were immensely unproductive without pentadactyl. Current version on addons.mozilla.org is suffering from some serious bugs and therefore is somewhat unusable. I finally caved in and installed the 1.0rc1 version from the developers' site. It's good to be back at home.

Life changing add-on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

After I accidentally discover it, I fell in love at first sight! :D

Unlike Vimperator, Pentadactyl is so much powerful and bug free and I totally like passkey (use without problem Gmail native keyboard shortcuts) and hintkeys (no more numbers for marking links, just letters) options! ;)

GAhhh I can't use the internet without Pentadactyl, so the new Firefox release schedule is KILLING me.

In terms of productivity increases, this add-on rivals vim itself for me. We all use the internet so much.

Overall the functions are very good and make browsing comfortable. But sometimes (or more specifically: for some features, eg. like history) Pentadactyl responds too slow. Speed should be improved to make it a really good add-on.

Great Addon. Can't really find proper words to express how i'm happy that this addon exists. Vim users are bound to love it.

I do hope it'll be maintained as long as firefox is on the market :). Ah, btw, one of major reasons why i switched back from chrome to firefox.

Thank you!
