The Password Knight add-on gives users extra information about the security of password fields. Surprisingly many pages are still sending password information unencrypted over the internet. That means a hacker might be able to set up the so called man in the middle attack and steal users' passwords. Password Knight aims to raise the awareness of these dangers, both among the users and web developers.
How does it work
1.) Password Knight analyzes the current page and every password field's target page
2.) User selects a password field
3.a) No issues
An eye icon appears in the password field indicating its safe to proceed. User is also given an option to take a peek on their password by pressing the icon.
3.b) Current page is secure but there is something tricky about the target page and its status cannot be determined
As the default, nothing happens.
3.c) Security is broken
A warning icon appears in the password field. By clicking it user gets to see an information popup. In the case that there exists a secure alternative, a link to that page appears in the information popup.
