Love The Visual Element! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I agree ... I like visual confirmations and Padlock works fine for me with some respectable preference options too. Thank you for allowing me to feel secure again!

Does not work Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This extension does not work for me AT ALL - does nothing. Firefox 20/Linux. On the other hand, the previous extension from the same author, "Yellow-Urlbar", works OK and combined with "Favicon Restorer" gives roughly the same effect. What would be still needed is a method to remove the site name (like "Mozilla Foundation (US)" on this site) accompanying the green padlock icon. "Old location bar" did this in Firefox 3, but from Firefox 4 up this feature doesn't work anymore.

This was a brave attempt to bypass one of the unilateral UI changes in a once (2.x and 3.x) nice browser UI. Unfortunately "padlock" has the same problem as "share-me-not", its icon ends up in an illegal position at the right end of the status bar (now adds-on bar), where it can't be accessed in manual "customizations". Wild guess after trying to grok one XPI archive: Maybe something in the extension developer manual was not as it should be, and some extensions tried to use the same global "right end of status bar" id instead of creating their own id.

I used to LOVE this add-on. However it doesn't work for me anymore. I am using FF v18. I am not sure whether to give "one star" because it is broken for me, or "five stars" in hopes the author will see this and fix this problem, so as to not mess up the average rating. As a web developer, it is incredibly helpful to know when a (secure) page you are on has the dreaded "partially encrypted" problem, since there is no obvious indicator anymore. I do not always remember to specifically look for a working icon, but would rather have something glare at me when it needs my attention.

still do like it, but it doesn't work anymore from ff16 on.

no longer needed? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Is this add-on still useful in firefox 14?

I want this for SM also Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I wrote an review last year for Padlock and Fx if you scroll down.

Could you please make Padlock compatible with SeaMonkey? The dark gray lock in SeaMonkey's status bar is very difficult to see as it is very small, a terrible color and in a terrible place and also very difficult to tell if the SM padlock is open or closed. I have your Padlock on Fx and love it. I want it for SeaMonkey also so I can have an easy to see GOLD padlock in the SeaMonkey address bar where I can quickly see (like on Fx) whether it is open or closed. If I get on a page with mixed encryption, I cannot see the broken lock that SM uses at all.

BTW, your Conspiracy extension supposedly doesn't work on SM but it installed and works great and I sent a compatibility report for it. Now if you could make Padlock work with SM, I would be really happy. ( I am using SM 2.6.1, not the current version, as I have another extension I am waiting to be made compatible with the latest SM).

Moderate Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The purpose for Mozilla moving away from the pad-lock in the first place was that the lower level certificates were to often being used by phishing sites to defraud people. The pad-lock made people feel safe when indeed they were not. Looking for the pad-lock has become an insufficient way of ensuring that you are conducting a safe transaction.

This being said, providing a blue bar to a lower level certificate creates the same problem. The only way to truly solve this would be to eliminate any form of visual (or other) indicators that the site is secure unless there is a mid or top level SSL attached to the site.

If you are still looking for the pad-lock and JUST the pad-lock it is only a matter of time until your information is stolen. Be sure to look for the identity information associated with the certificate and site as well.

This is an awesome and much-needed add-on! I would also like to echo previous reviewers' requests to allow us to have the padlock in multiple places at once, eg. on the address bar as well as the status bar at the same time. Thanks!

I love your addon. It's excellent.

One little thing that needs a bit improvement:
please, reduce the distance between the padlock/passport icon
and the end of the Identity button,
and the distance between the above point
and the start of the protocol (eg.https).

Check this screenshot (plain Identity Button above, and with Padlock addon enabled below):

Maybe it's not true, but I feel more secure seeing the padlock on the page. And when the padlock's open, I can use IE to load the page without the offending content to be really sure. BTW, the Facebook "like" button on many pages is HTTP, not HTTPS.

I really like this addon! I was wondering if you could add an option for blue/green highlight in the location bar so it matches the site identity button? Also there is a little extra padding on the right side of the site identity button that needs to be removed.. very noticeable on non secure sites. Keep up the great work!

It's reassuring to see the symbol that's easily understood by all the family and know that we're less likely to fall foul of unprotected sites by inadvertently entering sensitive data. It's also so straightforward to configure - a really great add-on thank you.

Great Add On! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A very useful add on that looks and works great! I especially like the option to colorize the address bar.

good stuff Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This add-on is what I was looking for. I would give five stars if the padlock icon was not placed within the colored identity button. For those of us who are partially colorblind, red on a blue or green background is nigh-impossible to see. I'd prefer if the padlock was moved to the right of the identity button as is apparently done for the similar add-on, Padlock-Or-Eye, by the same author.
Thanks.

This is great! But could you also restore the padlock to the status bar? FF v.4 doesn't have a status bar, but there's an extension to restore it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/ . If we use that, could you have the padlock appear there? Thanks.

Of course 5 stars, I'm glad someone is thinking the same way i do about security in Firefox! Just one more thing, please make address bar yellow like it was in Firefox 2.0 for HTTPS sites, padlock plus yellow address bar, i don't know why Mozilla dropped this feature.. Freundliche Grusse
