Very easy to use and add new user-agent. Superb for testing cloaking in SEO.
Brilliant user agent changer btw. Been using it for a while now and then to my horror its completely disappeared.
I've tried removing it, restarting adding it, disabling it... Everything I can think off to get it back :(
Any thoughts? I have tried using others but they just aren't as good.
Worked fin until Firefox 19. Does not work on firefox 20/21. No icon at addon bar.
You should put a "standar" firefox in the list. My "normal user agent" is not firefox (I try to hide it, because is "too unusual"), and I use your extension to go back to the original user agent if something goes wrong in a web page :P
I am sure many people use this. And there are more reasons to put it.(that's my reason)
It'd be fine if the Icon didn't disappear making Reversion to your real user Agent impossibe. Restart. disable etc. etc. doesn't help.
I need the add-on that would help me login to my late father yahoo account. i tried to login with my father password but is requesting some secret question due to am using another ip address...i need answer to my email (email@example.com).. Thanks.
It works, but there's a nasty bug where if you switch from FF to IE, you have to close & re-open FF before you can change the UA back to FF. I hope that that gets fixed, because believe it or not, this add-on is actually the BEST user agent changer add-on that there is.
My system is:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu Raring Ringtail (development branch)
Release: 13.04Codename: raring
The extension did not override anything not matter which option I chose. Too bad, I really needed it for my work.
I event disabled all other extensions I had to test it, still to no avail.
Can you add the feature to remain active on all tabs and domains until you set it to default?
Waiting for your answer.
In combination with other add-ons this has really come in handy developing Websites and testing.
Now if you can only remove that 1 STAR guy's ignorant response.
This an awesome addon! However, it's a shame that it doesn't work with local addresses.
Very good so far. I love the restartless addons, when I can get them.
I'd love to see a full set of options for faking agent strings for preset lists of sites, with wildcard matching. (Including '.*' for all sites not matched with narrower filters.)
I haven't tested yet to see if this also changes agent strings reported via JS. If so, that would put this far ahead of the old User Agent Switcher addon.
Looks good, but two (minor) features missing -
Can the list include options for "Firefox" user agents (eg different version?)
Can the add-on allow "customise the list" option (so you can enter multiple custom agents for choosing; right now you must enter each time "new")
This would be very good.
I try to add only the main User-Agents to keep it simple, as you can see only Internet Explorer has different versions.
I could even add a long list of User-Agents, but it really would be used?
(Ohh! You reminded me to add Firefox Mobile in the list :D)
A "customize the list" is a really good idea and I think it would help anyone in need of other User-Agents (as in his earlier suggestion). I will arrange something for next update.
Thanks for the review!
Please for future planes you don´t forget the KISS principle!
"Keep It Short and Simple" ;)
I really liked the KISS principle.. hehe
I'll try maintain it :)
Works well but I would like to see a feature that only the current tab will keep the chosen userstring, now I have to keep switching back and forth.
Good suggestion! I will consider it in future updates.
IE9 has 'WIndows NT 9.0' in the UA string. Haven't tried any of the other UA's.
You are absolutely right
I was already updating to version 0.3.0, but I corrected the error mentioned by you and I'm releasing version 0.3.1
But this version is awaiting the review of Mozilla, but you can see on 'Version Information' > 'See complete version history'
thanks for the review
A stupid concept. The user agent should be switched to something that would ease access to some site and not to scream: I'm the one who runs a small screen device with a resolution of 2000x900 pixels
Extra: Reply to José Almeida
If and only IF the site does not do any other check. Also, there are about three addons with the exact same set of features, including working with the latest Firefox and without the need to restart. So I should add Pointless to the description.
Override User Agent does not improve your web experience, should be used only for testing web development
eg: select a mobile user agent as the android and access google.com, he will give you a different format for viewing, because google.com offers this
an example of real use: you created a website, but do not want to display the login field for bots, you create a code to hide this field based on the user agent, but how to test? Simple! With this addon :)
Thanks for review
For Extra Reply: Really there are others similar addons, the main difference of this addon is the location (toolbar / addon bar).
Before creating this addon I tried using the "userAgentUpdater" was very useful, but had conflicts with the "Menu Editor" and use the normal right click always show it (because of that I use "Menu Editor", clear the context menu)...
I also used the "User Agent RG" but it is hard to access (or not appropriate)...
And finally the famous "User Agent Switcher", full of options and everything, but often you do not need it all, just something easy and practical is enough and that's what I tried to do with this addon, did something to my need and have made available to others
Note: This addon also is restartless and compatible with firefox 11-14 (tested), can be compatible with future versions, if not I certainly be updating to make compatible with latest release
Very userful, thanks!
Thanks Aris! :D
