Still works fine in Firefox 56.0.2, but for some reason it doesn't work in Waterfox. Not having the option to open a new tab in the foreground -- it's been years since I lived like that. I don't think I can go back.
Hey, great thanks for updating the plugin for Firefox 4 quickly (it's in the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/open-link-in/ section until reviewed for security), it was just not the same browsing experience without it.
With the help of this little handy add-on I eliminated "Open in new window" option from context-menu and added much more useful - "Open in the same window". Very convenient browsing now, thanks!
I seem to need to use "take me to this url" add-on often. That add-on allows the quick opening of highlighted urls in text into new tab. Unfortunately, it has not been updated for latest FireFox version. I wonder if adding the same functionality to "Open link in..." add-on would be synergistic?
Thanks a lot, Anton! I’d always feel annoyed by websites forcing to open a new window. At least, thanks to Firefox it was merely an »open in new tab« but still I don’t like this behavior. Now with your »open here« command it’s history! Especially beautiful is the additional setting to group all »open in« commands into one contect folder, that’s smart, too! I would even love to have this very same functionality added to my left klick on links. (Do not even know if that’s possible at all ... Is it?) Anyhow, thank you deeply.
Hi Mateo, thanks for your comments! Sorry, I don't know of any way to force Firefox to open links in the current tab when you left-click, neither via an Options (about:config) preference, nor using a keyboard shortcut. You might find it useful to know in advance whether a link is going to try to open in a different tab/window so that you only need use the "Open link here" option when necessary: see http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=118365&start=45#p1952435
:-P The "Open Link Here" item enables you to override links which are pre-programmed to open in a new window, an irritating authoring habit left over from the earliest days of the web but which seems to be ever more widespread.
You can hide this menu item -- and more -- by using the Menu Editor add-on at http://menueditor.mozdev.org
Suggestion: Right-clicking an item in the Bookmark menu opens a context menu with the options to Open in a New Window or Open in a New Tab. It would be nice if this add-on added the background window and background tab options to the menu.
Superb plugin! But, do you think you give the option to select which items to have added? I don't care for "Background Window" or "Background Tab", I only want "Open Link Here". I know there is one other plugin that only supposed to do "Open Link Here", but it doesn't seem to work with the released firefox 3.0.
