easy to use and understand Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works precisely as described, easy to use.

The code is rather simple,

function oldbarStartup(event)
{
var urlbar = document.getElementById("urlbar");
urlbar.setAttribute("autocompletepopup", "PopupAutoComplete");
}
window.addEventListener("load", oldbarStartup, false);

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

@Tommy_B & Other people:

I've updated my add-on to work well with the newest version of Firefox.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7637/

It will do the same as oldbar, but also has many more options to refine. And the default settings it uses are pretty close to what Firefox 2 used to be.
Once V2.0 is approved you'll have the options menu and no more incompatible messages.

Lastly, I'd like to thank ssptizer for creating this add-on in the first place. Or else I would have probably not created my add-on. Your add-on sparked my interest in trying out XUL coding for Firefox add-ons.

I also cannot contact the author of this and I'm having problems. When I am running Adblock Plus, oldbar doesn't work. When I disable Adblock Plus, it still doesn't work. But when I uninstall Adblock Plus, Oldbar works fine. I also can't get Old Location Bar (the other program that mimics FF2) to work either, when Adblock Plus is running. So I have a choice; the annoying two-line address bar, or the annoying ads. What a horrid choice. this has only been a problem since roughly FFv3.5.2

Great! Thanks a lot, this makes browsing with FF a lot more the way I like it.

have used this in the past, and it was great, but recently, it stopped working. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and it worked for a bit, but then stopped working. Uninstalled, reinstalled, and now won't work at all. Very frustrating. I hate all the space that FF3 takes up in the address bar.

i wished i found this extension earlier, works great for me - tanks

Does what it says, and saves a lot of valuable screen space that you never really use. I love that you can keep your bookmarks unhidden if desired.

It's also a beautiful piece of programming, being absolutely tiny and very well maintained. Kudos

This is a great addon but I am having trouble with it. After I install it, it works fine for 3 restarts but then it magically disappears and goes back to the ugly green new bar. So it defeats the purpose :/

great add-on. unlike others, I much like the AwesomeBar. what upsets me is the fact that it takes up so much space. but oldar makes the UI prettier to look at and, more importantly, much easier to work it. great work, and if the case be, please update. :)

A big improvment Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I can't stand the Awesome (Awful) Bar. I continued using version 2.XX until July '09 just because of the Bar. This plugin is a big improvement but some of the Bar's properties are still present. I wish there was a way to totally defeat the trends of the Awful Bar!

simple + sweet, thanks!

Thank you so much. I'd been using version 2 for so long but Firefox just forced me to update to version 3. The "Awesome" Bar is an awful "feature" and I don't think it's an understatement to say it ruins the internet. I can't say enough to thank you for creating this and saving my experience.

i don't like the "Awesome Bar"!
it should be called Awful Bar!
dumb.

Does exactly what it says it will and does it well!

Thanks I really hated the new awesome bar, I stopped using it almost completely. Now, with the about:config fix, it's almost back to being useful. This was major screw up from Firefox and some people I know who were diehard users stuck to Firefox 2.0 because of it.

1) This Guide Above does not work. it still displays sth*tload of unneeded information.

2) oldbar Works

3) dontl ike it? stfu & dont use it.

4) im disappointed that i need to use an addon instead of about config wtf mozilla crew why you keep on screwing with firefox???

Thanx for this great addon.

Old Address Bar Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like this old address bar. But I don't like the title "Mozilla Corporation (US) " on the address bar - it takes too much space...

Tweaks Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Raminux and other posters: this tweak works with Oldbar and the new bar. Read here http://www.pcmech.com/article/firefox-3-disable-the-smart-location-bar-sort-of/
Notes:
If you set maxRichResults to 0 (zero) none of Awsomebar's crapola will pop up. Set it to 1 and you will see only 1 turd.
Jeez, all this excitement and disgust while there's and easy solution. That's what I like about Firefox: there's always an add-on or tweak which enables you you to make it work the way you want, whatever your preferences are.
If you're not comfortable about messing around with about:config (who wants to risk his warranty on a free product?) ask the kid next door to do it for you.

Awful bar Rated 5 out of 5 stars

"Actually the Awesome bar is 10 times better than the old one and pretty much anyone who dislike the new one is just stubborn and refuses to learn new things."

Actually, the Awful bar is 10 times worse than the new one and pretty much anyone who likes the new one is an idiot.
