great add-on. unlike others, I much like the AwesomeBar. what upsets me is the fact that it takes up so much space. but oldar makes the UI prettier to look at and, more importantly, much easier to work it. great work, and if the case be, please update. :)

A big improvment Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I can't stand the Awesome (Awful) Bar. I continued using version 2.XX until July '09 just because of the Bar. This plugin is a big improvement but some of the Bar's properties are still present. I wish there was a way to totally defeat the trends of the Awful Bar!

simple + sweet, thanks!

Thank you so much. I'd been using version 2 for so long but Firefox just forced me to update to version 3. The "Awesome" Bar is an awful "feature" and I don't think it's an understatement to say it ruins the internet. I can't say enough to thank you for creating this and saving my experience.

Does exactly what it says it will and does it well!

Thanks I really hated the new awesome bar, I stopped using it almost completely. Now, with the about:config fix, it's almost back to being useful. This was major screw up from Firefox and some people I know who were diehard users stuck to Firefox 2.0 because of it.

1) This Guide Above does not work. it still displays sth*tload of unneeded information.

Old Address Bar Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like this old address bar. But I don't like the title "Mozilla Corporation (US) " on the address bar - it takes too much space...

Tweaks Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Raminux and other posters: this tweak works with Oldbar and the new bar. Read here http://www.pcmech.com/article/firefox-3-disable-the-smart-location-bar-sort-of/
Notes:
If you set maxRichResults to 0 (zero) none of Awsomebar's crapola will pop up. Set it to 1 and you will see only 1 turd.
Jeez, all this excitement and disgust while there's and easy solution. That's what I like about Firefox: there's always an add-on or tweak which enables you you to make it work the way you want, whatever your preferences are.
If you're not comfortable about messing around with about:config (who wants to risk his warranty on a free product?) ask the kid next door to do it for you.

Awful bar Rated 5 out of 5 stars

"Actually the Awesome bar is 10 times better than the old one and pretty much anyone who dislike the new one is just stubborn and refuses to learn new things."

Actually, the Awful bar is 10 times worse than the new one and pretty much anyone who likes the new one is an idiot.

The Firefox 3 "awesome bar" is the most vile bit of code ever written. I was an evangelist for Firefox in the early days, but that's all over with now. I'm actively looking for a replacement on all 400 machines I manage until they revert back to the bliss of the 2.0 location bar. At least make it optional if you can't get rid of it.

Hallelujah!! Haven't installed it yet, but thank you so much for it. I can't stand the new bar.

IMHO a UI change like that should have been tied to some theme or special option package and not the default.

My hero! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I don't know what kind of warped mind came up with the drop down menus, but restoring the FF2 format ranks up there with the second coming. Whoever wrote this is my hero and should receive the Nobel Prize!!!!

Killed the AwfulBar Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The Microsoftian arrogance of the developers drove me back to Firefox 2.0 after an uninstall of 3.0; what a sweet sweet feeling to get rid of that piece of crap. It would have been a no deal even if it had worked as advertised, but it didn't even do that. God know I tried it for over a month. I just DLed Google Chrome as well; I may just end up there. We'll see.

In the meantime, thanks for oldbar. A great step backwards, but in the end, it wasn't enough.

This add-on tops my favorites. Single lined compact interface packed with useful information.

Although it is already very good at its current presentation, I think if the length used to show the title and tags could be improved by shortening the URL Address.

Thanks for saving Firefox! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I completely gave up on URL completion by setting the value of 'browser.urlbar.maxRichResults' to zero. Now I am back to the old good address bar. Thanks for saving Firefox!
