GREAT ADD-ON THANK YOU!! :) Now I can have a new tab icon in my title bar and my tool bar - perfect, good job

my way to fix problem with FastDial addon Rated 4 out of 5 stars

First of all I am sorry for my bad English.

I have "new tab toolbar button addon" and "FastDial addon" too and it doesn't displaying at new tab, opened by this button.

There is how I resolve this problem:
1. Download "new tab toolbar button addon" from mozilla site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/new-tab-toolbar-button/ (use "save object as" in your browser).
2. Rename just downloaded file new_tab_toolbar_button-1.1-fx.xpi to new_tab_toolbar_button-1.1-fx.zip (if you can’t see extension ".xpi", you need to set up your explorer).
3. Unpack new_tab_toolbar_button-1.1-fx.zip with WinZIP or whatever.
4. Go to "new_tab_toolbar_button-1.1-fx\Chrome\" folder and open newtab.js with notepad.
5. Find the string:
var tab = document.getElementById("content").addTab("about:blank");
and change it to:
var tab = document.getElementById("content").addTab("chrome://fastdial/content/fastdial.html");
6. Save newtab.js and close notepad.
7. Go to one directory up (where the chrome and locale folders are placed).
8. Pack all content (chrome and locale folders, chrome.manifest and install.rdf files) to zip. I named it "new_tab_toolbar_button-FastDial.zip", for example.
9. Rename customized file "new_tab_toolbar_button-FastDial.zip" to "new_tab_toolbar_button-FastDial.xpi".

OK, we almost done..
10. Open add-ons tab in Firefox and remove "New tab toolbar button 1.1" addon.
11. Install our customized "new_tab_toolbar_button-FastDial.xpi addon" and restart Firefox.
12. Profit!

THAT IS JUST PERFECT!

I have no idea that why Mozilla prefered to remove new tab button. I was searching for that extensions for weeks...

By the way, it would be better if it can use system's default button theme. It seems a bit different in Ubuntu.

But, hey; THANK YOU...

Small Changes Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Hey
Thx for the add-on, really useful. I was looking for some time now for a second "new tab" button for ff4. I like to have one next to the tabs and the second next to the bookmarks button. Nevertheless I change two this

1. After clicking the button it should open "about:blank" - This way it will work perfectly with the "Fast Dial" add-on
2. Change the icon for a simple + , just like the original "new tab" button. It would compose better

Nevertheless, great Job.
I Salute U!

This is a really useful add-on. Can I add my name to the waiting list for an "open home page on new tab" option? or even better, "open any page I want on new tab". Keep up the good work!!

Great!...just need it to have an option for "open home page on new tab"

THANK YOU Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hoooooleeeeeey Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. That "no new tab in the toolbar" bull crap was a pain in the deepest part of my ass, but thanks to this big dicked mofo right here, I can open up as many new tabs as I damn well please right from the convenient location of the toolbar. Thanks man, thanks.

can you please resize it so it doesn't stretch the other icons in the area where the back / forward buttons are . It is causing them to look stretched and out of shape . thanks . same size as default icons please

Thanks Rated 4 out of 5 stars

If you don't like this extension Rated 2 out of 5 stars

1) put the new tab button somewhere else (as in not in the tab strip) by going into Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout... and then dragging it out of the tab strip;
2) go into your profile folder (Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Open containing folder)
3) open the folder called chrome (if there isn't one, create it)
4) open the file userchrome.css (if there isn't one, create it or rename the existing userchrome-example.css)
5) if you created the file from scratch, paste this code:
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); .tabs-newtab-button { visibility: visible !important; width: 30px!important; -moz-border-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/tab.png") 2 3 0 3 / 2px 3px 0px 3px repeat stretch !important;
if not, simply add this at its end:
.tabs-newtab-button { visibility: visible !important; width: 30px!important; -moz-border-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/tab.png") 2 3 0 3 / 2px 3px 0px 3px repeat stretch !important;
6) restart Firefox.

This is better because the button will look like it should look and it won't screw your layout up when you do stuff with Firefox, as this extension does.

Alternatively you can simply create this style with the "Stylish" extension (you need to install it first):
@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
.tabs-newtab-button { visibility: visible !important; width: 30px!important; -moz-border-image: url("chrome://browser/skin/tabbrowser/tab.png") 2 3 0 3 / 2px 3px 0px 3px repeat stretch !important; }

Hope it helps.

Great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Not sure why FF4 removed this button, but thanks for making an addon to bring it back.

The only thing is.......would you be able to give the option to open my homepage (or a specified page) when I click on the "new tab" button? Instead of just a blank page?

Thanks!

Works perfectly Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I do prefer a toolbar button over the tab bar button.

Thank you! :-)

I'm still surprise of how firefox have remove a few little this like this button, after reading the comments of everyone I have tested the complement and all problems or correction about the icon and size seem to be fixed, the icon it's in the same desing of FF4, size, color, etc.

Thanks for this little complement!. It's working great :D

Great! Seems like it's working...
But... I'm using "FastDial" addon - and it doesn't displaying at new tab, opened by this button...
But this is better than nothing. Thanks!

Very good! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you very much for that addon! I was looking for something like that yesterday for 2 hours with no results =) Since I am on FF 4 now...

Only one thing doesn't work:
When I use FF default "new tab" button - Fast Dial (another addon) screen is shown, it is ok!
When I use your button - Fast dial is NOT shown, instead blank white screen is shown...

Can it be fixed?

Could you please change the button icon to FF4's default?

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

And one really needs this button in the following case:
* menu bar enabled
* no tabs disabled as long as there is only one tab
* one wants the "new tab" button as long as there is only one tab, in the other cases one wants the button at the right side of the tabs.

Shifting the button as possible in the new firefox 4 does not help in this case - then the button at the right side of the tabs is away ...

I have been working this way for quite a time now ...

Yes, thanks for this addon. This whole issue was driving me crazy before I found your addon. I aggree with other posters; please make on with the default Firefox 4 final icon.
