New Tab Override by Sören Hentzschel

by Woodsy, 2 years agoGood concept, have used in the past but removed for now. As others have noted, it opens the New Tab settings page rather than the selected New Tab. Also, removing the add-on didn't work.
Update to reply to developer response: "New Tabe Override still works." I'm giving you feedback that it doesn't, I could give you more information (Firefox on Dell laptop running Win 10 etc.) but a blanket response like that is odd. Why would I bother leaving this comment if I'd not had an issue?
To clarify "removing the add-on didn't work" in response to your answer - I just clicked on the remove button and the removal path (menus etc.) appeared but the add on was still present on Firefox. I did this a couple of times before it eventually went. Other add-ons have been successfully removed first time. I mentioned this because it seemed like useful feedback, I'm not smart enough to either develop apps or know whether it's possible for them to have an issue that can interfere with the removal process, although I have worked alongside software testers for enough years to believe that all kinds of unexpected behaviours can sometimes occur with software, so any feedback is usually useful in case the issue is a defect that impacts others, rather than just a temporary glitch or problem with the machine or browser.
It certainly could be something broken on my system, I'll be on the look out for any other apps not removing properly, thanks for the tip.

posted 2 years agoNew Tab Override still works. If it's not even possible for you to remove the add-on then it's clear that something is really broken on your system. And something like that can't be caused by New Tab Override. That's not possible at all.

- Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18218893, a month agoBroken. Setting "current home page" does not work if homepage is a local file. Even though hitting the home button works for local files. So it should be possible to navigate to any homepage on the event.
They support something they call "local file" option, but it is not a local file, instead it is a static copy of the file loaded somewhere into the extension storage. Therefore any changes to the local file are not reflected. E.g. it is not possible to sync/backup such file.
Also URL bar of the new tab is cluttered with homepage URL, so its very cumbersome to use it.
Perhaps it is not fault of the extension itself, and it is just result of infamous FF anti-features regarding extensions they push constantly. But anyway, it does not work as described. Uninstalling.Developer response
posted a month agoNo, it's not broken, that's not true. Yes, local files don't work. But that's explained in the extension and a restriction of the WebExtension framework. It's not an add-on issue at all. Just set-up a local server and you won't have any problems, it doesn't take more than five minutes.
Please read the instructions and ask for help before giving bad reviews for no reason. - Rated 5 out of 5by 태준쌤, a month ago

angry ramble - It was nice when Firefox had features and customization almost two decades ago. Now they slash features, save ALL OF THE telemetry data, then spam email/advertise to buy their VPN/Relay service. They're turning into their own enemy 🙄Developer response

Regaring your off-topic paragraph: Firefox allows more customization than EVERY other browser. Telemetry is good for users and everyone with an opinion about the product should keep it enabled. It's ridiculous that the people who disable telemetry are the same who are angry because Mozilla removes their favourite feature. Also, Mozilla does not spam their users. That's just not true at all. - Rated 5 out of 5by Nicolas Francisco, 2 months ago

It was a default feature of Firefox some years ago. But Mozilla had to remove it because it was abused by third party software to change the new tab page to adware pages without user consent. For that reason it's only possible for add-ons now. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18489395, 3 months ago

Now i can openn new tab to the way that i want.
2 issues that i would like to report:
1) is it possible to empty the address bar field so as to not do it by ourselves ?
2) the personal bar disappears when your app is in use. can it be possible to provide an option so that it keep stand if it has already setted in firefox?

1. No, that's not possible for WebExtensions.
2. I don't know what "personal bar" means, but New Tab Override doesn't change anything with regard to toolbars. Do you mean the bookmarks toolbar? Firefox has a setting to a) always show the toolbar b) only for new tabs (but that's only the case when you override it with this add-on!) or c) never show it. I guess, you should use a) in that case. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18385732, 6 months agoan annoying bug:
when you open a new tab , then go for a url , u cannot highlight a word for copy,it turn grey, disable this plugin can solve the problem.Developer response
posted 4 months agoThis issue is not related to New Tab Override at all. It's a known Firefox bug that can happen under certain circumstances.

- Rated 4 out of 5by Firefox user 17940157, 6 months agoAll good and functional. Only feedback I'd give is for it not to bring me to my selected page when I open a new tab with ctrl+shift+T which is when I want to bring back a previous page and not have it be overtaken by the tab homepage :)
