by Woodsy, 10 months agoGood concept, have used in the past but removed for now. As others have noted, it opens the New Tab settings page rather than the selected New Tab. Also, removing the add-on didn't work.
Update to reply to developer response: "New Tabe Override still works." I'm giving you feedback that it doesn't, I could give you more information (Firefox on Dell laptop running Win 10 etc.) but a blanket response like that is odd. Why would I bother leaving this comment if I'd not had an issue?
To clarify "removing the add-on didn't work" in response to your answer - I just clicked on the remove button and the removal path (menus etc.) appeared but the add on was still present on Firefox. I did this a couple of times before it eventually went. Other add-ons have been successfully removed first time. I mentioned this because it seemed like useful feedback, I'm not smart enough to either develop apps or know whether it's possible for them to have an issue that can interfere with the removal process, although I have worked alongside software testers for enough years to believe that all kinds of unexpected behaviours can sometimes occur with software, so any feedback is usually useful in case the issue is a defect that impacts others, rather than just a temporary glitch or problem with the machine or browser.
It certainly could be something broken on my system, I'll be on the look out for any other apps not removing properly, thanks for the tip.

posted 10 months agoNew Tab Override still works. If it's not even possible for you to remove the add-on then it's clear that something is really broken on your system. And something like that can't be caused by New Tab Override. That's not possible at all.

- Rated 5 out of 5by algi, 14 days agoIt's longtime since I added it and I'd like to say Thank You again because it's nice and useful. 👌
- Rated 5 out of 5by Torchy, 21 days agoIt works and makes my annoyances with firefox homepage go away! The loading times are slower however, but I know that that is probably out of your control.
- Rated 4 out of 5by Crazy Jimmy, 22 days agoThis app does just what I needed. However, it was too hard to find out how to change the URL for new tabs. I've spent perhaps 15-20 minutes clicking and, frankly, don't know how I finally got to the page that enabled changing the URL. (This may pertain to other Firefox add-ins, too.)
Would like to donate, but had bad experiences with PayPal and closed my PayPal account. Wish there was another way to donate. Developer response
posted a month agoIt works. Of course you have to configure the extension once. If you have problems or questions, feel free to open an issue on GitHub.- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18122396, a month agoGood add-on to make your new tab more interesting.

posted a month agoThis doesn't make sense since "about:home" is the default new tab page and you woulnd't use this add-on at all to use it as new tab page.
Also it's not possible at all for WebExtensions to open about:home via the tabs API. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 18096584, a month ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 12920934, a month agoVery good, does exactly what it promised. Unfortunately you can't disable the behavior, if you changed the new tab to another extension, this extension will take over. It's extremely annoying if you use firefox sync and wanted to have different new tab behavior in each devices.

- Rated 4 out of 5by AnnoyedLeek, 4 months agoI am so glad I can finally redirect to my local web server for a custom home page. My major gripe is that opening a new tab does not clear the address bar, which is mildly infuriating. I understand that the extension settings state that Mozilla needs to fix the issue because they won't allow extension devs to change text selection in the address bar (citing a bug report filed a few years ago).
However, after reading through that bug report and clicking through to newer bug reports that cite the same issue, it seems Mozilla has changed their minds on that and now allows devs to implement this feature. I would love to see this implemented, as it would remedy my only issue!
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1426058 is the URL for the newer report.
