Neicca Extension can be turned on and off with a simple click of the mouse. When it is turned off, Neicca Extension does not do anything, thus preserving the user's privacy. When it is turned on, a side panel will be displayed at the left side of Firefox browser, indicating to the user that the browser is in automatic sharing mode. The side panel also displays a list of groups that the user has joined. The user can select or de-select each group with a click of the mouse. When turned on, Neicca Extension will automatically submit to the selected groups the URLs of the web pages in which the user showed interest. Neicca Extension will ignore these web pages that the user opens but does not read. To further enhance privacy, the identity of the user who submitted each web page will be hidden from all group members.
The side panel of Neicca Extension displays a list of web page titles and URLs that are interesting to the selected groups of users. The content of this side panel is refreshed periodically, so the user will be kept up-to-date with the online activities of all the selected groups. At the same time, the user has the option to concentrate on the tasks at hand, working in the main window of the Firefox browser at the right side.
When the Neicca Extension is first launched, the user is prompted to register to the Neicca Community. Then the user can create and join groups, which includes completely private groups for family and friends, application-or-invitation groups for alumni and colleagues, and completely open groups for local communities and public interests.
On Neicca Community web site, the user has the option to manually submit the URL of an interesting web page to these groups. However, Neicca Extension can automate the sharing of online activities, thus allowing the user to enjoy 100% productivity on internet-related activities, while still maintaining the social connections.
