cool extension idea, but it doesn't seem to work... so i'm giving two stars. try download it and if it works leave a note here. websites should be responsible for coding their own sites. thesocialarchive.com website for example HAS mobile codes on every page.

Doesn't seem to work if the menu has a dark background color. There should be a white border around the qr code

Update Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I've built a version that uses google charts (QR codes only) instead of the nokia service that has apparently stopped working: http://github.com/jk3us/mobilebarcoder/downloads. If the dev doesn't update his version, I'll put it up as a new plugin.

Stopped Working Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It was a nice application until it stopped working . Now only an empty square. Reloaded it several times, and just updated Firefox to 3.5.4. No change.

excellent plugin! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

excellent plugin, very very useful for transferring URLs to android phones!

@rompeola: there already is a wordpress plugin: http://blog.anthonywong.net/qr-code-wordpress-plugin/ --- see http://xyzzyxyzzy.net/ for an example use case.

@ylmak: works fine on my 3.5.2

When it still worked with my version of Firefox, I thought this was a great addon. I used it mostly for transferring contact information and meeting info from my email to my phone, but it was lightweight and reliable and didn't take up much space on my phone. Unfortunately, Barcoder doesn't work with 3.5.2. Waiting on an update.

It should work fine

Sorry to hear you're having problems getting it to work with 3.5.2. I'm using it with that version, and many others are too, so it should work fine. If there are any error messages shown please let me know what they are and I'll see what I can do. Please also make sure you're using the up-to-date version, as it should definitely be compatible with 3.5.2.

Great for transferring data from PC to phone. Reasonably lightweight and simple (not bloatware).

Can you make this into a Wordpress plugin? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I think this is a great Firefox add-on for "transferring" content between a computer and a mobile device. Being able to choose between QR codes & datamatrix would make it even better... However it would be great to have a similar feature for blog posts in Wordpress. So here is my humble request: Dear developers can you please port this into a Wordpress plugin?

@DrScofield: WP-QRcode is outdated & non-optimal. By porting this great Firefox add-on the developers might get even more credit and respect points... A small icon at the bottom of every blogpost would be optimal. Like sociable (another WP plug-in) but for barcodes...

Check the add-on options

Ola, you should find the option you\'re looking for (to switch between QR Code and DataMatrix) in the addon options. Just go to Tools | Add-ons, select Mobile Barcoder, then click Options. There are two options in there, the barcode format and size. I hope that helps.
As for a Wordpress plugin... I hadn't thought about it before (I don't use Wordpress for my blog), but I'll see what I can do. I have a barcode built into my blog, so I'll see if I can port it from my homemade blog engine to Wordpress and maybe other platforms too.

This is a great add-on, very useful for copying URLs/text/phone numbers between your computer and your phone. I've written a more detailed review on my blog: http://jazzy.id.au/pebble/2009/04/04/copy_and_paste_between_firefox_and_the_iphone.html

Great extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Really useful extension, I can see it coming in handy for a lot of PC-to-mobile transfer stuff. Just one thing: I think your data length limitation is unnecessarily restrictive. There are online QR generators (such as http://invx.com) that will encode considerably longer text than your extension allows, while still generating code that my G1 phone will successfully read.

limitation of the generator

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to look into the generator I'm using (Nokia's Mobile Code site), as the problem is the limitation of the generator not the extension.

Out of interest, What are you using transferring? I added the text selection feature by request, but I don't personally use it for that, so I'd be interested to hear how it's being used.

wrong program naming Rated 3 out of 5 stars

There is one "major" issue with that software - it is NOT about BARcodes but it is about QRcodes. Barcodes are stripes whilst QR is a 2D code with those characteristic three square patterns in the corners.

utf8 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Nice, BUT if i select a text that contains special characters, it replaces them with space. Your URLEncode() function does not encode spec chars.
So you should replace this function with this:
http://shorttext.com/oq1fgnu
You can find the fuction here:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\.default\extensions\{A5C87640-F7CF-11DA-974D-0800200C9A66}\chrome\content\mobilebarcode.js
line: 225 - 260
restart FF and try!

Thanks for the patch

I'll test the patch and get it added to the next release. Thanks a lot!

save as image and a little improvement Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is one of my must have add-ons. I use it with QuickMark on my Nokia phone to save my time typing long URLs with my thumbs.
It will be so cool if the generated QR Code can be saved as an image. One more thing, the "Create barcode from selection" feature responsiveness is a bit less than reliable.
Keep up this good work.

I use this in conjunction with my G1 and Barcode Scanner to save lots of cut and paste operations.

Get's 4 starts from me. Will get a 5th when it alerts you if a selection contains too many characters, and also provides an easy method to enter my own data to endcode.

https support Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very handy application but would like to see it supporting https based URLs. Currently it fails to generate a code for any https sites.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2.0).

Example URL?

Could you please give me an example URL? I've tried with a simple https URL and it encodes fine. If it's a very long URL it might be hitting the maximum character limit.
