Hasn't been updated in a while but works fine on windows. Displays the QR code in a manner suitable for my cellphone to decode it just fine, even when there's a lot of data to encode.
Like another reviewer said, it'd be nice if there was a way to bring the image to the clipboard.
After looking at it (real quick), first, very nice idea!! Works very effortlessly. Biggy for me is to be able to save the image for printing in my use case. I did run into a problem with the QRCODE for a paragraph not being readable by my Mbarcode app. But making the selection smaller fixed it. I imagine this was a screen resolution problem that my phone was not able to see the smaller squares of the higher resolution qrcode that was generated. Some way of generating the code in a standard minimum block size might help immediately for this type of situation.
I do have a couple of suggestions for added capabilities.
!.) Provide a method for copying the QRCODE image to the clipboard, or display in a separate page, or??
2.) Provide a mechanism to supply my own QRCODE generator as an option. I looked in the code, and see that this wouldn't be too big a problem to do, but you have the links hardcoded in for each of the existing options. There are a number of possible optional parameters available for making QRCodes that might be nice to add at some point as well.
Really incredibly useful. I use it to quickly copy addresses, phone numbers, and other notes from computer to phone without needing to hook up wires, waste my cellphone data usage, or retype everything. The context menu is what makes this gold.
This appears to work OK under Windows, but under Ubuntu Linux only small, blank windows are generated -- no visible QR codes.Mobile Barcoder 0.2.1, Firefox 4.0.1, Ubuntu 11.04.
UPDATE: I restarted Firefox yet again, and now "Create barcode from selection" is working. The bottom right icon for creating a link to the page still produces a tall, thin blank window.
I installed this addon but I don't know how to save the QR code generated.
If I use the small square on the bottom right of the browser, the QR code appears but I have no way to save it. Same thing if I use the right click button "Create bar code from link". I'm using Firefox 3.6.17.
How do you do?
Very nice! You should make a toolbar button that I can put next to the location field! The addons bar is not usually shown, and I got plenty of space for an extra button in the navigation bar. Also a button the size of a toolbar button will be a little easier for me to hit than such a tiny addons bar icon :).
Another thing that was a little confusing to me at first: I tried clicking the icon but nothing happened, so I though it didn’t work, but it turns out I have to hover it to generate the code... Would be better if it also showed it when clicking.
Great add-on, the only one of its kind (that works) on firefox 4, it would be nice if text inside text fields could be used to generate QRs, as most "share it" kinda things use fields to isolate the selection, usually next to a "copy to clipboard" button, which makes me think it would be nice if the icon in the status bar had a context menu or could be clicked to make the QR widget stick and have some icons in a corner of that, with a "generate from clipboard" menu item / icon as some kind of situational wildcard, that way it doesn't matter where the text comes from. (a click anywhere other than a button would make the widget disappear.)
Sorry for the lack of formatting, it just came out...
Thanks for the work ^^
first, thanks a lot. Could add an option on change its display site, ex in the tool bar area!
When I use the qrcode.kaywa.com directly, non-ascii text (eg. cyrillic or japanese) converts to QR like a charm. But I can't do the same by this addon (even if i choose "kaywa" in settings) - get only spaces instead of characters. Fix this bug please!
In other cases this addon the best. Thanks!
Nie da się skopiować kodu QR ani zapisać
What about version for firefox 4?
Sorry for the delay, I've now updated the compatibility for Firefox 4
Generates codes quickly and easily. I just need to save the 2D codes and this add-on can't. I'll keep looking. Thanks
bug: "create barcode from selection" correctly handles only ASCII characters, but ignores the rest (try cyrillic chars here http://www.ukr.net/ua/ for example). Please, fix this!!! Your extension is the best.
Other addons that add icons in status bar (like firebug, adblock, etc) usually has ability to add one more icon on toolbar (in toobar customize mode). It's useful because I used to hide status bar to save more space but still have access to icons via toobar. Your addon doesn't available in the list of draggable icons, so each time I need to send URL to iPhone I have to unhide status bar. :(
Très très bien ! simple et efficace. François.
Great Add On. I would give five starts but I cannot get generation for text or pictures working on my Ubuntu Lucid 9.10. Using the context menu, only a small blank square shows up. Drag & drop gives no reaction either. Any ideas?
Very easy to use, does exactly what it is supposed to do. I use regularly, its a great time saver. A wish for the next version: support for telephone and sms numbers, for example via the context menu.
Easy to use and real time saver. Good for downloading apk files (Android). Just generate the code from a link and grab it with a barcode reader on the mobile device.
It is necessary to add an option "Save barcode as JPG/PNG", and support of different languages - russian for example.
Context menu options don't work on Linux. They work fine on windows.
very good addon, works fine for me and just what i need, i will be happy to see one more option "Save barcode as JPG or PNG"
Version 0.2.0 (from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/2780 ) has working context menu pop-up. I needed to force it with Nightly Tester Tools. Context pop-up does not work with 0.2.1. I am using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:220.127.116.11) Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3.
One other problem with the context pop-up is that the border is clear--which means 'dark' when using a dark system theme. That breaks functionality for some phones (E71 and N900); they can't recognize the code without a white border. I know that is a weeny complaint, effecting only a small portion of users. But the context pop-up is core to this add-on, for me at least.
The only addon that actually works as I want it, but the latest version doesnt show barcode created from links. The previous one still OK.
Install 2.0.3 from here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/2780
If you use a newer version of Firefox, you may need the "Nightly Tester Tools" addon to bypass the restriction.
Well, actually context menu is what doesn't work. And it was supposed to provide functionality I hoped for. Little box in bottom-right corner works but is unintuitive (because I tried to click it, not hover) and useless (because it is possible to generate barcode for current url only with it).
I'm sorry it's not working for you right now. Could you briefly explain what doesn't work with the context menu items? I've tested the extension on both Mac and Windows (latest version of Firefox) and haven't been able to spot a problem.
No matter what provider I choose it just pops up an empty box.
