doesn't show the number of unread,
It can't import and export lists..
I prefer addons with as few frills as possible, so this is right up my street. However, it only displays the first paragraph of the blog posts, even if the full text is available in the feed. Also, disaster strikes when you hit Ctrl+F (find in page): The entire bottom three quarters of the tab turns grey and will only go back to normal after restarting Firefox.
However, if you only want to look at the beginning of blog posts AND remember not to use "find in page", this is just fine. For all those who prefer a more comfortable (albeit more complex and imperfect) feed reader add-on, check out NewsFox.
Edit re developer's reply below:
Thanks for your reply.
Regarding "incomplete posts": I tested this with a number of feeds (all WordPress-based IIRC) and invariably only the beginning of the post was displayed, while the full text is visible in both NewsFox and Thunderbird.
Regarding Ctrl+F—it is perfectly possible that this is due to an incompatibility with other addons, as I have plenty of them (no themes, though). In no way did I mean to imply that this (or the other issue) is necessarily caused by your own addon. I was just describing my own experience with it in the setting I happen to have.
The thing is, personally I simply didn't like MicroRSS well enough to justify going on a time-consuming hunt for incompatible addons (or even sacrifice them in favor of MicroRSS) OR to bother its developer with a troubleshooting request.
Having said that, I can unreservedly recommend MicroRSS for anyone who is looking for a no-frills feed reader AND who either doesn't have the issues I observed or isn't bothered by them (I'm sure that's still a huge number of people). That's why I gave it 4 stars out of 5. :)
Your comment about blog posts is too general. While I certainly believe you could have found some blogging tool that only puts a summary of the post into the feed body and uses some nonstandard method to put the rest of the blog post into the feed - that is not a fault of microrss. It correctly displays whatever was intended to be displayed by a feed reader according to the standards for each version of RSS.Generally, if you click on the link for each feed item, it will display the full post in a seperate tab. That's how it's meant to be used.
If you find that it only displays the 1st paragraph of any feed item, then that is certainly a problem and rather than reviewing it, you should have contacted me and see if it can be fixed.
Ctrl+F works fine for me, if it is having a problem you should contact me to help you, from what you described, it seems like the Ctrl+F problem might be from the theme you installed or an incompatible addon.
worked with feeds no other reader could (except firefox live bookmarks)
I'm hoping to tweak the look, if I ever experience "free time" again.
Ce module correspond complétement à sa définition, il est léger, minimaliste mais il lit tous les flux rss donc efficace.
This is exactly what it says, an ultra-lightweight RSS extension. Do not expect drag-and-drop capabilities. Do expect to set it up yourself. But it's dead-simple, fast, and does the job. I like that it doesn't require any sign-in, account registration, etc. It just reads RSS feeds, that's it.
The only feature I really wish it had was the ability to check for updates in my subscribed feeds, but I recognize how much more involved that would be compared to the current no-frills feature set.
It now sets itself up for the most part, has drag and drop subscription organization and does show which feeds have unread updates. Thanks to your suggestion!
