It just works! Turn it on and you can suddenly access content that is normally restricted for the country you are in. I've never found a method that is easier. It would be nice if there was a way to only activate it for certain sites, since it does slow down web browsing a bit, but in the mean time you can just disable the plugin when not in use. All in all, it just works and I recommend it!

Security? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I wonder about the security in this add on!

It's a java .pac script, and who's to say what kind of malicious conduct and behavior it does on our computers? I'm no security expert, and I doubt many of us are, so how can we be sure this add on don't steal codes, creditcard numbers and so on?

Makes firefox very slow to start up-- it takes a while before the page loads. It just sits there, spinning.

Not Perfect, but *Very* Good Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A lovely little add-on. Elegant in the simplicity of both its installation and usage. Allows me (in Canada) to view all of PBS videos and BBC iPlayer videos. Sadly, does *not* allow viewing of National Geographic channel videos nor several other U.S. & British 'stations'. If the developer would be able to tweak Media Hint to allow the viewing of a few more key U.S. and British websites, it would be virtually a perfect add-on. As it is now, it's still extremely useful and appreciated.
[Using Firefox 23.0.1 / Windows 7 and have not noticed any slowing of performance.]

has not options i need Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Not bad and very useful. It would be better if you add an option to manage the sitelist and posibility to start and stop application. Like other users I found my firefox is slower now.

Please add the site raditaz.com it's something like pandora

Makes Firefox slow Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Media Hint makes the startup of Firefox very slow. It takes about a minute before Firefox loads up the homepage. The loading of other pages is also slower than without the extension. I'm using Firefox 23.

As far as I see, all it does is setting "Automatic proxy configuration url" to https://mediahint.com/default.pac

May be someone will prefer to do this manually instead of installing 150KB of some scripts.

I'm amazed at how well this works, given how many scammers there are in this particular area.

A blissful absence of advertising etc as well, and the home site checks out well on VT, WoT, etc etc. I wonder how long it will survive...

So far I've watched iPlayer, Channel 4 OD, and Hulu. Channel 5 doesn't seem to be fooled by it though.

All round a great find ... I agree with previous though that a nice easy On/Off switch would be very welcome, even though it's quite easily done in the add-ons dialog.

More important to me though would be some indicator in the toolbar or url bar, just to show whether it's active or not.

*EDIT; @jingplusone and anybody else who's interested, you can easily make your own toolbar button for this and any other add on, using this neat little tool - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/addon-toolbarbutton

Does what it's made to do on version 22.0. Would make a perfect 5 if there was a button I could put on my toolbar to toggle the proxy on and off though. If there is already one, it's not apparent in the setup.

Tried it with hulu.com and it worked like a charm...

Plain and simple, your plugin is broken on the latest version of Firefox. It causes the first page, whichever you have it set to, to take forever to load.

Hopefully this is fixed soon.

Stopped websites from working Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I was unable to connect to certain websites (was getting server not found), and upon removing this extension, they immediately started working again. It changes your proxy settings, which affects URL resolution.

I discovered this add-on very recently
Worked like a charm, no hassle, no tinkering, just installed & it worked !!
Was able to access BBC & Comedy Central, didn't try others, these 2 are the ones I really wanted
But since the new update v0.1.13.1 it just stopped !!! :(
Then decided to revert to previous version (0.1.13), and YES, it works again!!
Hope this helps

Doesn't work on both chrome and mozilla firefox (latest version). Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling and restarting computer multiple times with no luck. Useless and a complete waste of time as netflix is still blocked. -Macbook Pro, Bahrain

Worked earlier with Pandora. Now it doesn't. Hulu and Netflix aren't avaliable either. Useless.

Not for Windows8 64bit? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Running Windows 8 64bit, Firefox 21.0. Works with Netflix but not YouTube. Access to YouTube blocked content is more important to me than Netflix (which I will cancel) but if it doesn't work, then I guess MediaHint is not for me.

Slowed down browsing Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Running Windows 7 Home Premium, Firefox 21.0 & Confirmed Java is up to date.Had to disable this addon because it caused so many sites to load very, very slowly (including the Media Hint site). Others seem to have no problem. I've done some websearching, but haven't come up with a solution, other than enabling it and disabling it as needed.

Maybe Ghostry or other security addons are making Media Hint problematic?
