About this extension
MaoXian is a handy web clipper that focus on clipping information from web pages to your local machine. All relative files (pictures, stylesheets, web fonts etc. ) will also be saved. That means you gain the control to browser them offline, synchronize them using whatever file storage service you like, anything you can do with local files.
Storage
Web pages are written as HTML (HyperText Markup Language) file, So they will be saved as HTML by default. You can also save them as Markdown. The clipped files are organized as folder rather than an single file. Because the main files (HTML or Markdown) are just text file, you can search or edit them easily.
Every clipping has one category and any number of tags. Category are used to organize the clipped files, Let's assume you have a clipping called "clipingA" with a category "news", then it'll be saved in "MaoXian-foler/news/clippingA". All save paths of different file type can be configured very flexible as long as they are inside MaoXian-folder.
Get Ready
Sometimes the current state of web page is not ideally to save. For example: you want to save the high quality pictures rather the low quality ones that currently display. or the web page contains lazy load pictures but due to some reason these pictures are not loaded, the displyed ones are placeholder pictures. or there's some content unrelative staff that inside the main content etc.
MaoXian comes with a feature called Assistant which can help you solve these problems before the clipping process.
Select the content you want to clip
You can choose one area just move your mouse and click to select. then you can press 'Enter' to confirm or press 'Delete' to delete it. In this step, you delete unrelative information inside main content and confirm the main content you want to clip.
Title, Category and Tags
After you confirm the area that you want to clip, A saving form will show and you can change the title, category or tags. These three are meta data and will be save together with others as a meta file (JSON format). Which make MaoXian very easy to program with.
