Useful and clean Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As part of my masters thesis, I am developing an extension which requires to access current browser search engine. There is no direct sdk to get default browser engine. I came over your addon upon searching. You managed to get current search engine and change current engine. Can you please tell me how did you do that, any documentation related to developing your extension. I am struggling to get search engine value. Can you please suggest me way to get search engine (like using any SDK or other way).

Thanks in advance and looking for your reply.

Thanking you,
Siva Seelam.

Very useful... + some improvement suggestions Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I use more than 40 search engines so this addon is very useful for me.

May I suggest 2 improvements:
- The current search engine should be more easily identifiable: for now, the current search engine is set in bold font. I think it would be more easily identifiable if the forecolor (try in blue) or if the backcolor (try to set the div line in gray) were different
- Separator bar: I would be nice to be able to insert horizontal separator bars inside the list in order to categorize search engines.

* Edit : I find that your proposed background darkening is a good solution. I'm ok with that.

Thanks for commenting!

Concerning your suggestions:

Changing the forecolor is something I've found to consistently look horrible (unless you control all the theming), so that's not going to happen. After thinking about the problem for a while, I've come up with slightly darkening the background (XUL doesn't give you much support for theming menu items): https://storage.xmine128.tk/index.php/s/RRcFBSW0s9hBoBF
Let me know what you think, please.

Inserting separator bars wouldn't be very hard, but I don't know of any non-invasive way of adding a user interface for it. Currently the native Firefox settings are used for managing the actual engine list and there is not a lot I can do to add separators to it's options. I also won't recreate Firefox's entire management UI code for this, so this is probably not going to happen. :-(

Thanks! But it is necessary to add a display of the current search engine.

Thanks for bringing back the EASY choice of default search engine (since the December 2014 update of Firefox) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks so much. I was missing that little arrow for the pulldown menu. Your add-on brings back what I used to love. Seeing all those icons in the new Firefox is crazy - with 40+ search engines installed. DANKE!!

Good tiny addon that does what I need. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

In FF 34.0b there isn't option to set search engines keywords or remove built-in SE at all. This little add just do what I need.
Cute icon.

It doesn't remember last action sometime, like keyword setting or SE removing, so I need to open and make it again. I don't know is it FF beta version or addon bug.

Requests:
* SE name change option
* Double click on search engine to change it's keyword (or name, but keyword would be more desirably.

Is this still the case in FF 34 stable? I just tried on a friend's notebook and the search UI looks the same as always. Also the addon does not implement the search managment UI itself, it just loads the Firefox UI for this, so any bug you encounter in the search UI is not an addon bug.

I just tried again on a different system and the search UI is indeed different here... stange. Anyways, the fact remains that the search management UI (that gives this addon its name) is still implemented by Firefox and not by this addon. The bad news is that they will probably drop the old UI code soon, so this addon will require some major updates and implement that stuff itself. The good news however is that by then there will hopefully be a repalcement for this missing functionality in the new UI: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1106055 . If they do that then this addon will become pretty much obsolete! :-)
Of course this also means that there won't be any modifications of the UI from my side for now.

For now please just bear with it and maybe update your review if things get worse. Thank you for your understanding!

Excellent Add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I am so grateful for this add-on. I had that stupid WSE Rocket virus attached to my browser and I couldn't figure out how to remove it, but this add-on took it right off, as well as Bing and a couple of other hated add-ons. Thank you so much to the creator of this wonderful add-on.
