This is a great idea. I think the keyword.URL pref was deprecated no? So this no longer works? I'm working on finding a new solution: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31089107/where-does-firefox-determine-the-words-typed-in-url-bar-are-to-be-converted-to-s

Thank you, I noticed this as well, so the add-on doesn't work anymore. I might have to disable it unless there's a good solution for it.

Great add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great from Firefox 4 to 7!
If you ever upgraded to Firefox 8 and lacking of the functionality in Firefox 8, See http://ayesh.me/content/how-get-im-feeling-lucky-search-firefox-addressbar
(this is how I fixed that)

Thank you for your review! I repackaged the add-on and uploaded it for review. If you're eager to upgrade, you should be able to find it on the "all versions" page.

There is a big difference, 'I'm feeling lucky' will 'always' predict some website, so when you 'do' want to search you have to go first to google, while 'Browse by name' will only predict if it's one word or well known website, if you'll type a question or phrase, in most cases it will open a google search which is what you need!
So, this is an awesome add-on, thanks!

Doesn't work, keyword.URL ignored Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Doesn't seem to do anything under Firefox 5.0. It looks as though the keyword.URL preference is now being ignored by firefox.

I don't think that's the case. LuckyBar still works on Firefox 7 for me.

Just like it was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Makes Firefox's location bar act exactly like it used to. Goes to the most relevant page if it exists, goes straight to a google search if not.

This works! This feature was in FF3. So why drop a nice feature in FF4? Anyway this addon does the job.

This is an essential addon to Firefox 4. The web consists of names and ideas. We shouldn't be forced to memorize all the URLs. And we don't deserve to be slowed down by a search results page when we know what we're looking for.

How about showing first few google results as you type? That would be perfect.

Not a criticism, but going through the various jetpack-developed add-ons noticed that this is duplicated by "Browse By Name 1.1 by Ehsan Akhgari", but without the slimming regime taken by the latter (although that makes the latter jetpack-inspired now instead I guess). The three stars are for giving an example of doing preferences the new way, and the extra two are because it does what it says it would.

[second update: on my first update I increased the stars from 3 to 5, but the stats still just show a single three. Obviously statistics are done differently now from when I was at school.]
