Stopped working but I've found a replacement Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Anyone looking for this functionality should look at Turbo Download Manager addon.

Good, but version 1.0.2 is not compatible with firefox 29 and later.

Great Rated 5 out of 5 stars

5 stars from me
It was great until it lasted. I'd seem that on Firefox 25 the 'Save as' dialog disappears after popping up for just a moment, making it impossible to save any URLs...
The 'Save as'' works when you right-click URLs in the browser itself.

Great extension for downloading files from URLs that trigger an action and don't allow direct donwload, e.g. some .xpi firefox extensions on some sites. A perfect companion for HTTP header monitor tools.

What I don't like is how the history feature is built... I mean, it's a parallel download history to the one of the browser itself, but this is not clearly explained to the user, also the extension has no interface to access it (appart from clearing it), and as long as now it resides in lget.sqlite file and not in a text file (as it seems it did, like other reviews say) proper tools are needed to access it (SQLite Manager for example). As review of Haudy Kazemi points bellow, the fact that new history is not bound to the Clear History function of FF is a mayor drawback... fortunately the whole feature can be disabled. Also the keyboard shortcut it uses CTRL+E hijacks the one of FF to focus the search bar, but CTRL+K can still be used anyway.

Alternatively you can use Clipboard-Save-As extension, which support this extension main function with a minimal interface, that don't include a dialog to edit the URL on the clipboard, so it has to be well formed before copy (what may require a rapid previous edit in a editable space like the search bar or the adress bar for example).

Need a bugfix with some locales Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very useful addon, but with recent versions of firefox, a bug regarding the option dialog appears.
The dialog opens, but the only content is an error report.
Here is the content, in Italian language:
Errore interpretazione XML: entità non definita
Indirizzo: chrome://lget/content/options.xul
Linea numero 35, colonna 1:
<dialog id="lget-options-dialog"
^

EDIT:
It seems the options.xul file can't find entities defined in locale file options.dtd. Could you fix the problem?

RE-EDIT:
The problem was due to the inability to read accented characters in the dtd file.

Problem solved converting the dtd file in UTF-8 encoding
All Italian users (and all users with accented characters in their localization) can easily fix the extension opening the xpi file with a zip manager (I used 7zip) and converting the file in UTF-8 with an advanced text editor (I used notepad2).

This is what I was looking for! The "lget" (direct download) and "Custom Download Manager" together should be a built-in Firefox feature!

copy & paste url into... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

i was wondering if this add-on is the same as copy & paste url into your browser's location bar. i think some systems are set to play mp3/sound/movie/etc files, but if it were disabled...

Why is this not a built-in Firefox feature? Saving a file is one of the most basic internet tasks!

For those of you asking how to use it, once it's installed it adds an item to the File menu, "New Download".

Enhancement suggestion: integrate with Firefox's Clear Private Data feature to erase the URL history stored in 'lget.history.rdf' in the profile folder. An example of another add-on that does this is DownThemAll, which has source code freely available under the GPL.

Rather good extension, works well. However the hotkey Ctrl + E is already used to set focus to the search bar...which is quite troublesome. But still a wonderful extension and it's quick, simple, easy to operate. GJ
