Leechblock is exactly what I needed. It harbors no illusions about the nature of or need for self-control, it's just a great way of letting me remind myself how I've been spending my time.

Let's say you are the kind of person who automatically goes to news sites, facebook or twitter; you realise later that many hours have been sunk; you resolve that this shall not happen again, *ever* ; and then you catch yourself doing the same resolution the next day!

Don't worry, all is not lost. You are very normal - among netizens whose brains have been rewired to seek updates every fifteen seconds!

Your first step back to better use your time at the computer could be leech block. It gently reminds you of your very human shortcomings and prods you to better use your time.

Of course you can "beat it" but to what end?

[And yeah, the export feature is useful for multiple computers and browsers.]

The angel looking over my shoulder Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It is a fantastic add-on. My personal cop. I listed all the sites I go to without thinking, like twitter, facebook, news sites. From 8am to 8pm, Leechblock saves me from evil-me. The lazy me. The "Let's just go there quick"-me, it is fantastic. I wish a similar version existed on my phone to lock it there too.

I use leechblock and MacFreedom. Try both and see your productivity go through the roof.

Thanks again

I use this all the time, stopping myself from wasting time by visiting facebook, twitter and news sites without even thinking.

To stop yourself immediately disabling the block you can set a randomly generated string of characters that you have to type in before you can gain access to the control panel of the add-on. The prospect of two minutes of typing characters is usually enough to make me think twice about disabling it.

The time-limit is also a nice feature. After a pre-determined number of minutes within a given time-frame on block-enabled webpages, the block kicks into force, allowing a short browse, but stopping you spending all your time on the time-wasting websites.

Absolutely Essential Add-on for the easily distracted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Even without thinking, whenever i'm sitting at the computer, I often automatically begin to type in things like yout.... gma.... or faceb.... or twit..... to my utmost horror. I work from a home studio and let's say distractions already abound in such a setting but I work a lot and I need to get a lot done. This has been the simplest but most effective tool that has completely stopped my pointless time-wasting and successfully kept me on track with work. Thanks so much for making this add-on.

Improved my productivity immediately by preventing me from going on youtube or manga reading sprees. I see no reason not to get this add-on.

Time flies when I am visiting some sites, and it's usually too late when I look at the clock. This is a perfect solution. Nice job

This is one great application, I currently use the block function both for specific time windows and for time duration. I also really love the lockdown function!

Great and effective tool. I love all the different ways I can manage and limit my time on time-draining sites (for example, I can block some sites certain times of day, others after a certain duration, others completely, etc.).

Can only be set up to 6 "Block Set" rules. Really regrettably!

Number of Block Sets

Thanks for the review.

How many block sets do you think you need -- and why? Usually 6 is more than enough to block the sites you want at the times you want. Let me know your needs and we can see whether it can be done with 6 or less. Feel free to email me at the support email address.

Please please please make this for Chrome Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm made a bit of a permanent switch to Chrome but all the leechblockesque addons are simply no where near as good as the original. Leechblock is brilliant to the core. I will pay you 50 bucks! Hey its not much but maybe a few more people would jump on the bandwagon.

LeechBlock for Chrome

I'll consider it! But I'm not sure the demand is there, given the existing options.

Great plugin! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great plugin! Finally I've been working instead of just spending my time on forums. And I do feel that I cant deactivate the plugin, it would be like cheating myself so I really do continue to work. Thank you!

I wrote a blog-post in Swedish about it here:

It's psychological Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As some bad reviews say: no, this won't block spam sites, this isn't safe to keep your children away from those nasty places, this is fairly easy to go around, etc. You can disable it, go to about:config and change the settings, you can uninstall it and reinstall it, hell, you can even have two or three browsers installed and go to them when Leech Block takes your drugs away. But that's not the point! The point is, at a given time you get a blank page when you used to have that website that sucks your time and attention. That helps your brain trigger the "I should do something else in the meantime" function. It's a psychological trick, a self-help tool if you like, and as such, it does one heck of a job, with a (almost) perfect set of options.

If you can't get work done because you find yourself hacking into LeechBlock's flaws every time it blocks an addictive website, then you don't need better software - you need a shrink.
