The best search available! .
go download it i have it now for a half year and could not browse without it
Exactly what I wanted!
ok, but still it's not possible to have the instant search result in the page below as it would behave with g SOMETHING.
With your solution, the suggestions appear only in the address bar (like in chrome infact).
Works fine, great add-on.
I was a long time user of another great addon for managing search engine plugins, Searchbastard, which also features the ability to search by keyword from the urlbar. But when Searchbastard's other unique/awesome ability to perform multi-tabbed searches was surpassed by multi-tabbed search sites like AIO Search, I was really just hanging on to the increasingly clunky/bloated Searchbastard solely for the urlbar/keyword search functionality.
And then I came across InstantFox. This is pretty much exactly the lean-but-powerful replacement I was looking for -- and then some. I wasn't even looking for features like the abilites to circumvent Mycroft and edit/create search engine plugins in-browser without restarting , or the importing/exporting of search engine plugin code for fine-tuning, or the integration of search suggestions into the urlbar dropdown results. These are all *very* useful/powerful features that make this addon a must-have in my opinion.
But there's one bug that's hard to ignore. There's two types of search engines out there -- most use the GET method, but some use the POST method -- and InstantFox doesn't properly recognize search plugins for engines that use the POST method properly. It says they're broken when in fact they not only are they 100% working but many have been available on Mycroft for years as confirmed working plugins. Granted, sites with engines that use the POST method are in the minority, but, for example, a lot of web forums like Hydrogenaudio, AutoHotkey, and tons of BitTorrent tracker forums use POST method search engines. And, so, that's why I can't quite give a rating of full five stars here.
In the end though, even though the POST method plugin issue is a problem, InstantFox is still a keeper. Hopefully the issue will be resolved in the near future. If/when it is, I will definitely be back to change my rating to five stars.
I agree with the below reviewer. This app is awesome but needs one search engine to be default therefore not needed a shortcut letter before the search. For example my default would be Google so if I searched with no shortcut it would use Google. For all other search types I would of course need a shortcut letter. Doesn't this make sense? Most of us use the same search engine 90% of the time.
Nice Extension, but i have a some questions?
How to build properly working search engines for this sites?
Must to have this search engines in my customized instant search but they have no working, cause InstanFox said them is invalid.
Tried to change with %q but engines not working correct and wouldn't to display search results. Please Help Me.
Bug found - Breaking work of switch-to-tab-blacklist extension.
This functionality should be native in the browser. Congratulations!
Let's you specify custom searches
IMO a must have add-on.
Very nice options for maximizing your search queries. Just a little display bug when IF's button is on the leftside of my searchbar : I cannot see entirely my configuration panel with a MBP Lion, and I can't resize it either... you will agree with me, not really handy ;) However, it's a must have. Thanks for sharing !
EDIT : No problem, email sent :)
could you please post or mail me a screenshot or picture? thank you! :)
Love this add-on. However, since upgrading to FF25, it doesn't seem to work properly. Hoping for an update.
thank you, this should be fixed with:
(Attention: currently in review and without auto-update)
I only use a small fraction of its power, but it surely trumps the default search engine options and is essential for everyone, for on the web your search is your everything.
As the previous review said, a must-have. No problems for me so far with FF25.
Removing this add-on from FF24 or FF25 (not sure if it had updated automatically) completely broke FF itself. Had to do a complete clean install. Add-on however does have some nice functionality.
First, it worked very well (until the update to FF 25.0). Therefore, 4 out of 5 stars.
In case you are fixing it to work with Firefox 25.0 - I am suggesting a new feature:
Please add the possibility for searches using the POST instead of the GET method
Breaks Firefox 25. Can't press enter or click go after typing an URL in the address bar.
Great add-on but currently broken in FF 25.0 - confirmed
it is totally awesome.
upd: dont work with firefox 25.0 in address bar
This should be a default included feature in Firefox! It's bloody brilliant and fully customizable!
Actually, this kind of "instant search" is what has kept me using Chrome instead of Firefox, but now that I've found this add-on I'm going Firefox all the way.
Every time I 'select text' then do a 'right-click' search x-webiste (happens on every site and when instant is turned on or not). Both the page I had text selected on and the new tab that opens with the search engine results as does the page with selected text. This is not a desirable response.
It should leave the page with the selected text alone and only open a new tab with the search engine result.
Not turn both the page with selected text and the new tab to the search engine results.
This addon usually does exactly what it sets out to do. Unfortunately, when using special characters in search terms without an operator it'll often use a search engine other than the default. For example, if I've got a / in the search term, for some reason, it'll search IMDB instead of Google.
