That was really good addon.
Great Addon, but No compatible with newest versions of firefox, so is useless
I agree with the previous reviewer that this would be an invaluable extension if it worked with firefox 4.0. This highlighter would be the only one that would save the highlights in a file on your own computer rather than having to sign up at some website.
I really hope someone updates this add-on!
If this application was maintained it would be the best highlight application out there. Highlights bug on SP3 is annoying. Highlights don't show up when I revisit the page. It would be great if someone picked the development on this add-on up and updated it to functioning! As far as I can tell doesn't work correctly in FF 3.5.7 highlights don't show up when you reopen page
Does not work. Status bar icon just pops-up the palette first time. I can't see any palette in right click menu neither.
When I reload my pages, the highlights won't show. And yes, I checked the box in the options.
I needed just one thing from this add-on: load some text from disk and highlight it once I change a page. This simply fails for me on Vista with UAC enabled.
At first, I couldn't save Preferences at all unless I figured to specify the highlights directory. It was blank.
But then again, it can't save highlights and consequently, doesn't highlight anything on page reload. Here's a relevant fragment from the error.log:
saveHighlite: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsILocalFile.create]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://highlights/content/serialize.js :: anonymous :: line 142" data: no]
As I understand, this snippet is what causes it to fail:
Author, do you mean that I need to start Firefox with admin privileges on Vista?
receiving the following error:
liten: [Exception... "Index or size is negative or greater than the allowed amount" code: "1" nsresult: "0x80530001 (NS_ERROR_DOM_INDEX_SIZE_ERR)" location: "chrome://highlights/content/record.js Line: 69"]
this seems contradictory to me:
"Highlight files are saved in users' home directory under a folder named 'highlights'."
"To improve performance, highlighted text is not saved to the highlights file (.hld). To change this default behavior, check 'Save highlighted text to highlights file' check box."
Does the second quote mean that the highlights file is not accessed every time the page is loaded - that it is stored in memory on a per session basis?
Just a few things are off:
1) Multi-color does not work for me
2) No option to turn off the status bar icon
Otherwise, it highlights in yellow like a champ!
wired marker does the job in ff 3.5, but the marked lines does not show up when the page is changed, rather marked lines are stored in cache. i would like to use Highlights for ff 3.5.
I'd like to see the Highlights revised to include FF 3.5. :(
Good, but few bugs are there, like only few color stay after some reload of a page
It doesn't work with Firefox 3.5+ like it is stated it does.
The install.rdf shows it only supports 3.0.*
Great idea and addon, very useful but it needs an option to remove the status bar icon,
Very nice addon - I must say :-). One thing I miss is that I may choose the color for highlighting directly within the context menu. So one has not to make too much clicks to get the work done ;-).
Although not new, this is a very useful concept. I like the fact that Highlights is light and not bug ridden (so far) as some of the other highlighting tools I have used in the past.
Okay, Honestly, I had been looking for this kind of an add - on for sometime now. I just happened to come across HIGHLIGHTS....Must say it is really useful for people like me....I play guitar and HIGHLIGHTS was a great help to me.... initially, to make the guitar notes and chords stand out, I had to copy/paste the entire document in Word or Notepad and then increase the font size of the notes and chords. But with HIGHLIGHTS, I can simply highlight the content and save the page.....as simple as that. Customizing the settings is a breeze. I am sure, this add-on will help a lot of people who are constantly dealing with online documents and files.
Thinking of the cons, well...if you happen to accidentally reload the page or if for some reasons the page reloads itself....your highlighted content will be lost. Also, Highlighting the search result of google was not possible but I am sure that the developer/s will come out clean with these kind of niggles in their next update. But, honestly, this add-on solved my purpose and for that I would like to thank the developer. I give HIGHLIGHTS a 5 star rating !!!
