AWESOME tool for those who study/refer materials online and saves the webpage on a local machine for studying when offline !! It really saves a lot of time during exam, when you can load these offline webpages and and revise the material quickly !!! Thanks for an perfect add-on I was looking for !!
Does one thing and does it well. Makes it possible to quickly highlight text so you can find it again after scrolling around the page. I really can't imagine life without Highlighter.
If you want your highlights on web pages (from the big bad Internet) to be kept, use the Wired-Marker extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6219
Very good complement. The last evaluation is not savy. What you can not do is to change a page that is not yours, that belongs to other person and is in the web. If the page is in your HD, all highlights you made will be preserved, as long as you save the page, naturally.
I would like very much if there also was a complement that would allow me to make other editions on the make, like add, delet and indent text, in the same fashion highlight allows me to do.
Forget this add-on. The highlighted text disappears if you close firefox or if you refresh the page. Completely useless.
This is essentially a worthless add-on. Sure, it highlights, but close that tab, go to another address or refresh the page, and you will find that the highlighs have disappeared. What good is this now?
I like Highlighter, but do not understand why there is not possible to undo last step. If I highlight laboriously different text in a page and slelect all to mail it, the whole page turns yellow (or other color) without a chance to change it. Without this function I have to send this nice add-on in the bin, or suffer a heart attack.
Needs easier access to remove highlighted texts. Other than that, A+ mod.
It's always handy to highlight text on a web page...especially those ridiculously long ones in which webmasters didn't have the sense to actually use more than one page on their site, but instead put the whole site on one page. Very annoying, so highlighter helps keep track of all that. The only thing that annoys me about Highlighter is that I have to hold down Shift to get access to multiple colors. Seems like a weird step to have to go through. I'd be happier seeing an option to just make advanced highlighting permanent, having the program pretend the shift key is being held down, even if it's not. I still give it five stars, just because it's still a handy highlighter.
Don't save highlight! I love this simple thing.
I had a need for a highlighter tool, and this was perfect for the job. The choice of colours was also a big added bonus.
Could use a few more options - a 'Clear All Highlights' would come in handy, as well as the option to unhighlight selected text (currently it is possible to remove an entire highlight by right-clicking it, but sometimes I'd like to just remove part of it).
Some people have said this should save highlights, I think this would overcomplicate a good, simple extension. Those people may want to look at Wired-Marker.
A very amazing Mozilla Firefox Add-on! I totally recommend you try it. Unlike Context Highlight, you can highlight multiple words/phrases and sentences, and even with different colors. Its very easy to use! All you do is highlight the phrase, sentence, or word, then right click and choose "Highlight".
Nice shot! I am very much obliged to you. Please make it for version 3.* !!!
Behavior is wrong.
Highlighter in the Toolbar shows only background colors.
What if I have several, if not all kept at the prior versions 'No Background'?
Then all I see to select is 5 versions of White.
Terry, Please fix this.
PS: I should 'NOT' have updated.
I do not see a place to report Bugs to here, as Mozilla requests below 'Rate-It' Box.

I downloaded and used this extension immediately! SO easy to use!!

Unless i'm missing something this doesn't save your highlights if you navigate away from the page. LAME!
I find Highlighter-Text Marker API's very useful, as I do a tremendous amount of research.
I do not use 'tracker icons' at all, but enjoy the ability of highlighting in 2-3 colors various points made by differing parties, or stressing differing importance of statements in an article with different colors.
I sorely miss one highlighter/text marker that I did have up to FF3 becoming mandatory for on-line FireFox usage.
It had, not a shift-key function, but a right-click option to change colors on the fly...
No leaning back over the keyboard to find that one key when I am leaning back to enjoy/peruse/study a very long article.
BTW:Additionally, I use highlighters/text-markers also for Health Research for both my Elder Sister's Back issues, as well as my own.
I would rate this 5-stars if I could do it all with my Mouse!
However, Thank-You Mr. Yuen for offering a product that does what this does.
Maybe in another version someone could add a right-click function, instead of a shift-key?
I would try, but I am no code-writer.
Yikes! I just read more Reviews, and discovered that this is indeed possible!
Thank-You TeaFrog for your informative review!
You can also clear a single highlight, change its colour and clear all highlights; I've tried another similar apps and the clearing of highlights was… not available!! ENDQUOTE.
NOTE: I also have 'Highlighter 0.1.4' on an Apple/Mac, and using FF3.
Up until today, perhaps 2 months after installation, I FINALLY used the 'Instant Highlight' function, which had been sitting up there all the time ready for me to use, and NOW I have all the functionality that I need.
By having a Mac, and most probably on a MS Windows IE Browser as well.. saving all the highlights into one neat package is a two-step process.
I simply save as 'Web-Page, complete', then open that file with Safari, save that; then if so desired, I can delete the two-part FF web-page, there-by reducing my saved web-page into one tiny package.
I don't often do this as I have folders dedicated to scores of 'saved web-pages', and a 60G hard-drive... but using the MS Windows procedure that user ' abcdef ' mentioned, (comment title was: ' Hightlights do NOT SAVE ')
as ' webarchive format ', then yes, it can be saved as one tiny little package.
This highlighting tool works, but I ended up getting irritated when I first tried to use it. First, like others wrote, you’ve got to use Shift-Ctrl, and not just Shift. Also, to remove highlighter, right-click on highlighted text, and choose Clear Highlight. (Originally, I thought I needed to select the text that I wanted to unhighlight.) Finally, after I installed it there was no Highlight button on the toolbar, which was confusing. I needed to choose View -> Toolbars -> Customize to add it.
I actually hoped for more discovering "Highlighter". I thought this add-on automatically highlights whatever word you've taught it. Which would mean, it takes it's tasks from a saved list of users entries dispensing him from clicking for highlighting.
Is there any tool like this around yet?
Tip: use the UnMHT extension to save entire webpages INCLUDING the highlights to one single file.
As said by others before, it sometimes can be Shift-Rightclick to get to the second level menu.
The only problem I get is that on the second level context menu, I don't get the colors in the little boxes.
Great product! I use it for highlighting text of words I don't know and want to look-up later on. Specially like the feature where I can just double click and highlight words.
The feature request of storing highlights would be great.
Like this add-on very much, but would LOVE IT, if there was a way to save your highlighted text. I've found myself highlighting text on a page but then when i close firefox it's gone. If there would be a way of remembering the highlights that would make this extension perfect.
Especially useful when you need to highlight some text on a printed webpage, but your hands are to unsteady (like mine - it's a miracle that I can even type as well as I do) to neatly highlight text using a highlight marker.
This is one of the most useful extensions. The link icons on the top right do not show on some pages maybe because of the large width of the page but otherwise no problems.
To seanspotatobusiness: You could use scrapbook for saving the highlightings - works with the Highlighter add-on as well.
Or try Wired-Marker - saves only the highlights and their locations, not the pages themselves.
