awesome , thanks very much .
This addon makes pausing youtube video's impossible when used together with Adblock Plus addon. Clicking pause button or pressing space bar does nothing in 99% of the cases. I use HTML5.
Works for me, both Flash and HTML5 player! Let me know the steps to reproduce it or I can't do anything about it.
Currently, this is the only add-on that works with Firefox 33 and the HTML5 version of Youtube.
Thank you very much. :-)
Thank you :-)
Works well till today. Now, if i edit a post in a Forum in an other Browser Tab, the Addon always adds a line that includes chrome://hdv/content/hdv.js in script tags to the form on sending.
The v1.0.3 fixes exactly this problem.
Fix is pending: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/high-definition-video/versions/?page=1#version-1.0.3
works well and fast, thank you!
Doesn't seem to select 4k by default,
otherwise great add-on/plug-in.
Seems to work better than youtube high definition 8.2
by baris at the moment.
Hi, thanks for reporting it.
Please let me know what screen resolution you have got and what video you were watching. One of the following might have happened:
- the video is not available in 4k
- your screen resolution is not high enough to take advantage in 4k. The addon would then probably select 1080p or lower.
Opened issue for you: https://github.com/vovcacik/high-definition-video/issues/11
Hi, I like this addon but i have a small problem. My screen resolution is 1280x1024 so the best quality for me is 720p but the addon is setting 1080p... how can i set it?
Hi, that is expected result. The current video quality determination is safe* for videos from 4:3 to 16:9 ratios. But it may be less effective in some cases, like yours, or anyone with 1280:800 screen like myself. This will change in next version, making it less safe for 4:3 videos but optimal for 16:9 videos. Keep an eye on .
* Safe in terms of maximizing perceivable video resolution.
I really like this add-on, however there are 2 problems/suggestions:
First, is it possible that this add-on in some way gets in conflict with some websites? It seems to happen to me at one specific website, maybe an option to disable the add-on on single sites would be a good idea (this is possible at many known add-ons).
Second, it would be very helpful if it was possible to decide which resolution you want to watch. I am thinking of some options in the firefox menu bar (e.g. Tools - High Definition Video - Set preferred resolution).
Hi Kuote, thanks for reporting the issues.
It could get in conflict on some pages. I would rather investigate the issue on the website than adding blacklist. Could you share with me the link with brief explanation what is wrong?
I believe the second issue will be resolved in next version, where the video quality determination will be improved (for 16:9 videos, not so improved for 4:3 videos, but who cares :-).
Awesome plug-in works perfectly. Now I don't need to manually select 1080p or 720p. It's fast and it does exactly what it says.
Thank you Revan.
working on youtube.
youtube not working on other sites (embedded player). For example, on facebook or vireg dot ru
Thanks for reporting this. Details will be posted in , .
I never used better app than this one ! So good
Thank you for this very simple module.
I have 2 requests :
1 : It would be hard to add support for embedded videos ?
2 : Can you add support for https://www.dailymotion.com/ ?
Hi Tetsumaki, thank you for your review,
Embedded YouTube videos are supported (in 99% cases). You should see it working on , where basically all the videos are embedded ones. However in some cases (and this is really rare) it won't work; this happens when video author is embedding a YouTube video manually and he is not following YouTube's embedding guidelines. See for example.
If that does not explain your difficulties, let me know about steps to reproduce the issue you may be experiencing.
Will look into it.
The extension does exactly what it's supposed to do, it is really fantastic!
Hi, thank you for reporting this. I would like to investigate further, but as I never experienced this issue could you please provide more details on how to reproduce this problem?
This should help me:
- URL of video which suffer this issue.
- Firefox version, OS.
- List of other installed addons that are related to YouTube/video playback.
- When you create new Firefox profile and install just this addon, does the bug persist?

Does exactly what it advertises without any bloat or unnecessary features.
That was exactly the idea. Thanks.
Absolute necessity of the internet!! big thanks for what you do!
It's a fantastic add-on. However, it sets the video's quality on youtube to 720p instead of 1080.
I love this add-on nevertheless and I would definitely recommend it.
Hi, thank you for the review.
Since v1.0.2 the addon does not select the max resolution available, but instead max resolution your screen can utilize. This change should not affect perceived video quality, but may save lots of bandwidth and CPU time. The idea originated in another review , check it out for details.
However if this does not explain the issue you experience, let me know a) your screen resolution, b) URL of the video and c) your screen orientation (landscape or portrait).
The plugin is absolutely amazing
Thank you, I am glad you like it.
Works perfect for me. It even works on youtube players on other websites. It is so much better than having to set the resolution and restart the video every time.
The only thing I would recommend fixing is allowing the user to set a maximum automatic resolution, because on videos with 4K resolution it will choose 4K even though my screen is only 1080. It would help for people with 1024 x 768 screens too so they could set 720p as the max.
