Below CSS code will autohide the bookmarks toolbar everywhere except on New Tab. Add it to your userChrome.css file.
/* Show the bookmarks toolbar only on new tab */
#main-window:not([title^="Mozilla Firefox"]):not([title^="New Tab"])
pls update it for firefox 57, without this I can't possibly update to firefox 57
I loved the Muli-row Bookmarks Auto-Hide toolbar but can't get it to work with Firefox 57 Quantum, can anybody help?
Thanks to the developer. Was crazy with the bookmarks bar always visible. Hope he can update it to work with Firefox 57+

I love this addon, but unfortunately it isn't compatible with Firefox 56 or higher. I'll miss it.
This add-on works great in Pale Moon 27 for Linux!!!!
We at Pale Moon would like to extend an invitation to Felix Kloft to host Hide Bookmark Bar at the Pale Moon Add-ons Site. Pale Moon browser is a fork of Firefox with significant differences. Changes to Fx 57 will make your extension incompatible, but as these changes will not affect PM, which will still support XUL and boostrapped extensions, would like to invite you to make your excellent extension available at our add-ons site. To see it there would make a lot people very happy!
Auto hiding (the only feature I need) does not work in Firefox 54.0
Would get five stars as soon as compatibility issue has been solved.
Can't do both: "Toggle the toolbar automatically" & "Enable hotkey".
I chose to enable a hotkey and found another Add-On that provides a button to Hide/Show the Bookmarks Toolbar.
Autohide/unhide with new tab does not work on Firefox 48. Too bad that was exactly what I wanted.
Does what it says, but there's no need for it to require browser restart in this day and age.
Firefox 47 on Windows 10.
I like it. It works (that's all you'd want from an addon like this). I wish this was part of Firefox default behavior.
Opening the toolbar on new tab pages, then closing it when you navigate to a new page is perfect! I don't even need the shortcut anymore.
Tut was es soll.
Does exactly what it says. Works for me with FF 44 on Linux Mint.
Used it before.Worked great then. But it isn't working anymore.I toggled the options several times but it does nothing.
There are a problem with fullscreen (Please solve it)
I used this add-on before and I liked it very much. Recently I have returned to Firefox and installed this add-on again but it is not working probably due to changes in Firefox.
1. The "Prevent the bookmarks button from being moved to the bookmarks toolbar" has no effect. I think it is not necessary any more. Firefox does not move the bookmarks button to the toolbar automatically any more.
2. I am not sure which the "Bookmarks" button but the "Toogle the toolbar with the mouse" mode is not working when the "the Bookmarks button" option is selected. With the "a toolbar" option it works fine.
3. My greatest problem: the "Toggle the toolbar automatically" options are not working. The Bookmarks toolbar is either always visible or hidden depending on the user setting.
It works nicely. Would love to have some effect like "descending" or "fading-in" but it's ok.
I had another brand and it worked but sometimes I couldn't get to a website when I clicked on it. So today I changed to this autohider. It is the best one I have tried. It immediately shows my bookmarks toolbar and then it immediately closes. What a relief. Thanks so much.
Unfortunately it doesn't work now.
I use the Beyond Australis extension as well that hides all my bars. And when used with this one, I first reveal the toolbars and then if nedded the bookmarks toolbar as well. It works like a charm! Thanks!
I've been looking for this function for ages - where have you been! The keyboard shortcut doesn't work but the button does. Yay! Suggestion: I am NOT upgrading to the "new" firefox v57until I find this is updated or find a navigation toggle.
This is really a good addon. Anyway, it don't work since FF41.
I've found a alternative which works well on FF42(I didn't test on FF41, but I think it would work). Here's the link: https://userstyles.org/styles/45803/selectively-show-bookmarks-toolbar. Remember to install stylish addon first.
I've been using this for years, one of my favourites to clean up my screen without losing any functionality!
