All that's missing is a "mark as read" and "clear all" function.
I agree with others that is is a very promising replacement for the dead RSS Ticker. I also would ask for continuous scrolling and scrolling on a separate bar, either below the address bar or at the bottom of the browser window. Also it really needs an option to mark an article as read if you right click it so that you don't have to read every article that comes up. Keep up the good work!
Have been looking for a replacement for the excellent but deprecated NewsTicker for Mac for some time. This almost fits the bill, just need to mature some more.
I have a few feature requests:
1. Install in a separate toolbar or on the status bar or even better, on top of the screen outside any window.
2. Make a horisontal list of all unread news, continuously scrolling.
3. Enable/disable on a per window basis in some form. I don't want the ticker on all my open windows. just the main/first window.
Keep up the good work!
Hi. This looks really good. Can you add the option of contiguous scroll, so the one entry follows another (separated by some separator, ie. pipe |)
Currently I have to wait for the 1st entry to disappear until the next one comes in.
...as a replacement for the "dead" RSS Ticker addon. I hope this doesn't end up the same as RSS Ticker did, due to moving from XUL based type of extensions in the future...
Please fix. Rolling back to earlier version just forces an automatic update by FF.
Version 1.0 doesn't work with Ffox 39. No text shown at all.
Used to work fine earlier. Now it no longer opens an article on clicking upon the ticker. I wonder if the problem is being caused by NoScripts. Or is it because of Firefox version upgrade. I am using FF 18 on Windows XP.
Does not work for me right now.
I just get a blank icon and when I add feed nothing shows.
Easy to set-up. Looks great. Almost complete control over scrolling; can make it change without scrolling, or at different speeds and update frequency(cpu usage).
@dancediva - The UK version of Firefox comes with BBC RSS feeds as standard. You need to add your own RSS feeds if you want to see something else. A simple Google search would have let you know how to use RSS.
Very good and useful add-on. Thank you for that. I configured it as a small part of my Bookmarks Toolbar and I like how unobtrusive it is that way. I also like that headlines quickly scoll in, then stay for a few seconds and scroll out of the way so that the next one can come in. Using the mouse wheel to cycle through headlines is perfect.
I must report that there is a compatibility problem with the Tab Utilities add-on where the HeadlinesTicker's Link Target option to open in new tab (both foreground and background) opens blank tabs without loading the news link. I don't know which add-on is at fault for this.
it's all BBC.
Great add-on. I use it for breaking news feeds to supplement Google Reader.
The only thing I would change is an option to mark an article as read so I could ignore headlines I'm not interested in.
If it allowed you to do this, I would have given it five stars.
I have used this tool for quite awhile and it was easy to set up and never gave me a problem. I get the RSS feeds from BBC and a few PC tech and gaming sites and it scrolls along at the speed I set and I adjust the text size, so that it remains visible but not intrusive. The photos don't show it that well but mine is set to run the length of the monitor and on the bottom, if I don't want to see it for a while one click and its gone. Thank You, LLLuna (developer) for a great design !
its ok but there is not way to customize it.. it won't let me add any RSS. brings up window to add it but it does not work.
A perfect RSS feedreader. I've been looking for something very similar. I like the way how to add new feeds, I like to way everything is my bottom right corner.
However I would like to have a wish if possible. Can you please define action, that once I open an article and I read it, it will be removed from the headlines? I am reading quite a lot of news and I would like to read every news only once and I would like to have displayed only headlines of the unread articles.
Thanks a lot for this great stuff!
I like this HeadlinesTicker very much!
I've tried all other rss addon before. I need a compact, not occupy many space, but able to show the news continuously. Finally I choose this.
For 2 reasons.
1. Compact, just occupy a corner. GREAT and COOL!
2. Stable, I've tried some of the other RSS addon, some of them may slow down my firefox. Or it will become very laggy.
Anyway, it can become more perfect. Such as fixing the way to add RSS feed. Now, no add button in option, no item in right click. I just add it by entering the xml page and choose ADD.
Another function I want to have is, able to set the number of feed in each source.
I like it very much.
1 - Compact.
2 - Accurate.
But there are some minor problems.
Such as there are no way to add RSS feed in the option or right click on it.
The only way to add RSS feed is open the xml website and choose the HeadlinesTicker and press ADD.
Also, if there are more option, such as setting the number of feed for each source.
It is perfect for me!!! THX!!!
Another non-working RSS addon. Are any RSS addons here working?
1. No "Add RSS" option when rightclicking.
2. No "Always use HeadlingesTicker to subscribe to feeds".
I.e. no way of addin new feeds.
Could you integrate it with Brief? So if I open a feed with Headlines, Brief mark that feed "read". Thanks
Hi, couldn't find a place to post requests, hence placing it here.
I have multiple feed sources and some of them have over 100 headlines while others have 10, so it takes a long time before I see feeds from a particular source. Two features here could help:
1. Limit the number of headlines per feed (Latest 5/10/20)
2. Randomize feeds/headlines
Please see if there is a feasibility to implement these. Thanks.
This is excellent. Simple and gets the work done. Have always wanted a ticker on my browser but could never get exactly what I wanted. This is as close as it gets. Thanks a ton!
It's very useful!
