I'm doubtfully about this addon cause I ask a question here and no response since one or two weeks.
The website in the addon description "http://www.googlesharing.net" is broken.
The Abine company website does not refer anywhere about this addon.
AND the last update was in 2011 !!!
As I say in my previous review the google news page display my IP so I think: what? There is not supposed to be proxied?
Please, give fedd back or delete this addon if it's no longer useful.
Yes, this addon was discontinued in 2011, hence why it hasn't been updated since 2011. Please see our flagship product, Blur, which is an extremely secure and comprehensive online privacy tool. Check it out, here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/donottrackplus/
The concept of this add-on is nothing short of brilliant: the "dedicated proxy" concept should be expanded to include more commercial services, not just Google. It is a most powerful privacy-protection tool.
Unfortunately, the default server in the settings doesn't work anymore. But the server googlesharing.riseup.net DOES work. It works for me every day. So all you need to do is go into options, click "add proxy" and fill in "googlesharing.riseup.net" in the "host" field and click okay. That's it!
Out of the box, it doesn't work: it continually disables itself. The proxy shipped is proxy.googlesharing.com, but it no longer exists.
The help link sends you to the Abine web site, but there is no longer any mention of GoogleSharing there.
Even with the changes to the proxy server shown below using the Abine-based proxy, it does not work.
A search indicates that Riseup provides a proxy server, but this also self-disables.
Sad--it seems a great idea; I guess it just didn't make enough money to justify supporting it.
It does what it is supposed to do. Install it, restart firefox, look in the lower left corner of the browser window for "Google Sharing" Right click that and see what proxy you're connected through. Perhaps it has been intermittent for some of the other reviewers, but as of Mar 28 2014 it is up.
The addon still works. HOWEVER, the googlesharing.net server no longer does. You can enter in your own server details and use them instead. There are several servers to be found online, or you can set up your own and let other people use it.
Albine has abandoned this add on. I don't know why they still have this as an available download. For them, it is not good to keep on this site as a sale for their other products. Do not download. And if you have GoogleSharing installed, remove it. They still have this available for a download and it will not work. Terrible company I would say. They are in the business of promoting security and trust and you can't trust them to remove a product that is non-existent.
This does not work. I've used this for several years prior to Abine taking it over. They are not updating it and this ADD-ON should be removed from the Firefox ADD ON. Do not download this. I've sent email to them to remove this from this site. It's a shame as it was a good ADD ON.
never works, constantly disables itself. has been sold to some new developer who has thus refused to keep it updated and is pushing their own "DoNotTrackMe" add-on which doesn't even accomplish what GoogleSharing does
Sorry for the trouble. We're a small company with a limited number of developers, and we have to prioritize some projects over others. Right now, GoogleSharing isn't at the top of the queue. We also don't sell any user data or monetize through advertising, so the only way we make money is if people try our other products and choose to upgrade to premium. That's why we encourage you to check out our other offerings. It's a freemium model that lets us operate without violating our users' privacy, but we're sorry if it's annoyed you :/

Nice add-on, but more and more often the GoogleSharing proxy server is not working causing the add-on to disable itself all the time. A more reliable server would be nice.
Greetings - we're aware that some users have been having problems using GoogleSharing. We're looking into these and will be releasing an updated version of the system shortly.

Abine is abandoning GoogleSharing (no more updates or bug fixes; GoogleSharing is dead). Too bad. :( Here is the transcript of chat I had with Abine representative regarding death of GoogleSharing:
Abine Rep: [1:57:12 PM] Googlesharing is very buggy as it's been in beta and we won't be updating it anymore.
Me: [1:59:16 PM] Does that mean you guys will not be offering GoogleSharing?
Abine Rep: [2:00:43 PM] Yes, we will not be offering Googlesharing, it should work, but if it does not, we are not able to help you with it. We will not offer any support since it takes time to fix the bugs and make it worthwhile for the time invested in making it more functional and more user friendly.
Me: [2:08:59 PM] You have confused me. If you are not offering support (customer support) for the product anymore, I am fine with that. But if the company is not updating the product anymore and not fixing bugs, I don't want to use it. Which of these two is it? Is it both?
Abine Rep: [2:09:52 PM] It is both.
Me: [2:12:13 PM] Ok. That is too bad. I hope that someday in the future, Abine can find a way to make GoogleSharing work.
Abine Rep: [2:16:02 PM] Thank you. I hope so too. Sorry for the inconvenience. Have a good day and great weekend.
It took a while to troubleshoot this, but I discovered this addon is one thing that can cause the infamous "Redirect Notice" that pops up every time you click to view a result from Google Image Search.
I just thought people might be interested to know one possible reason they might be experiencing that.
Also, how exactly do we know the addon is working? Is there some easy way to confirm how the requests are being routed?
I've been using this on Fx since it was first offered before Abine took it over. Scroogle search engine had just been taken off line and I found this to take its place.
Every time I update SeaMonkey version (as I just did) I come here to see if it now will work with SM. What is the problem? SM and Fx share so much code now it should be trivial to get this working with SM.
I also want it to work with Opera.
Fx is my default browser but I use SM and Opera quite a bit also. If I am on either of them, I have to come back to Fx anytime I need to do a Google search because I will not use Google search naked.
I've noticed since the first of this year, that I get VERY FEW times when GoogleSharing is unavailable. Last year, I got that frequently so this is a nice improvement. Overall, it works great and I love it.
SSL service can be a bit fickle otherwise a great product.
Has a few issues with a number of Greasemonkey scripts.
Also the returned results is not complete. Extra information provided by Google that appears on the right side is not included by the addon.
just a heads-up: an email from Abine indicated that that this ext. has apparently been abandoned in favor of their other products
We're continuing to support Googlesharing and maintain its original proxy server written by Moxie M. We are also going to re-write the server and improve the service. The exact timing of this is still a TBD. Please contact us by email if you want to a) help out or b) want further information.
With GoogleSharing enabled I can't disable safesearch, change language on google to english or keep my login persistent. Disabling this addon allows me to do all of those things which effectively makes this addon useless.
If I cant keep my search and loginsettings permanent, what's the purpose of this addon? To annoy me everytime I use google search?
We're aware of some of the bugs you're describing and are planning on addressing them soon. As you might imagine, Google makes it difficult to use their services in conjunction with external privacy tools. Sorry again for the annoyance; we're aiming to make it easy to go private without any hassle.

This is a GREAT piece of software! Recently, it had stopped working and I thought Google was blocking it somehow. However, when I tried to go to the googleshare.net website, I discovered that my corporate firewall now blocks access to the site. Voila - enter in another proxy address and it works fine.
Great, excellent, the best. Thanks for doing it.
I'm not sure why some people are having problems, but I am testing this extension as we speak, and it's working fine.
When I go to Google, or Google Maps without the extension, Google is tracking my location and redirects both the search page to the local one (something I HATE so much that is the reason why I don't use google!), and pinpoints my location in Maps.
With the extension enabled, Google sees me as if I am in the US, and can't find me in Maps.
And the extension is NOT blocking gmail.
So. the extension IS working, and it's really protecting my privacy.
Don't bother. All it does is completely prevent access to Google, it never connects. Uninstalling extension fixes problem. No support offered, not even an FAQ.
Googlesharing can be finicky on connections and depends on such things as language, other google services, and firewalls. We do offers support however and you should feel free to contact Abine. We can't resolve every problem with it but we are working to improve the service.
I found this because I went to high school with moxie. Really awesome idea. I'm excited to have been a bit part of it for the last year.
Blocking Google searches with 14.0.1. Have to disable.
It works great, fast and reliable
Very good with GreaseMonkey+Sctraight Google script (to remove Google redirection)
Thumbs up !!
It blocks my access to Google pages, from Gmail to Google searches.
Worked fine from Firefox 6 till now. But ever since I upgraded to FireFox 13, GoogleSharing is not working unless I disable the " Upgrade to SSL whenever possible" option. Can you pls look into this? Everything else is fine. Hope the new release will solve this problem. Is it possible to provide more proxies from googlesharing.net ?
I love this idea but I'm having difficulty using it.
Google must be hitting back because once I installed this the FF 11.0 Browser would freeze almost immediately.
I had to disable it, then FF worked again.
contact us in support - there should be absolutely no issues like this. Google use should be 100% easy and transparent. support at abine.com or visit our site for live chat. thanks!
Yeah, what KimuraOkagawa on December 2, 2011 said. Also not compat with ver 9.0.1, otherwise a good idea.
