I've started using this extension since the last version of Google Toolbar apparently doesn't work in the latest version of Nightly. I like this extension as a replacement pretty well, but it really needs a GMail button and Google suggest integration.
SIMPLE & AWESOME!!! I am SO happy to have found this! My favorite and most used function of the google toolbar was the highlighter. It was the main reason to use google - I was lost without it and thinking of going Chrome. Now I don't have to. Thanks SO much Johah!!!
Great Tool to replace Googles Toolbar wihich is gone anyway. Love it!
I'm only missing the double quotes ("") around the Drag and Drop text to be searched. Would love this to be added in future.
Would it be possible you add the option of google translate in a button?
Love this...but...seems to be broken in Firefox 8.0. The searches no longer populate the bar when a new page is loaded.
So...perform a search--click the link in the Google results...and...the bar is now empty.
Hopefully there will be an upgrade soon as not having the terms carry over negates the major functionality of this essential tool.
Version 4.8.2, which has been submitted here for review, will correct this issue.
It would earn an extra star if it could do the predictive search thing that the real toolbar did until its demise.
At the moment it only predicts your own previously entered searches, rather than the ones everyone has done through Google.
Very handy addon.
But, can you add one more functionality? If I drag to select a word (or words) on a web page, right click, can there be an option to search the word inside this page or hightlight them.
But..It would be perfect if it were able to log you into your Google Account and add Gmail and Google Calendar Buttons to Options for immediate access. Other customizable buttons would be an added boon of course..
Google Toolbar is no longer compatible with newer builds of Firefox. Above suggestions would allow this add-on to replace that toolbar entirely.
The highlighter only highlights one word of search string in paragraph, and when u click multiple times on highlight ON/OFF, it highlight same words subsequently in the paragraph, Well this feature is very well working in previous edition of mozilla (in previous versions 4.0 or less), so i thought to bound to use previous non secure slow versions of mozilla, pls fix it..... i think it should work on both latest versions and for chrome
Pls make superfast highlighter version even option to disable other possible features to make its processing fast and user compatability....
Very very thankx in advance.......
If the addon can link with Google account, so that it can give search history and google bookmark suggestion, it will be great!! Also, the flexible length of the toolbar can cause some errors to toolbar placed following it. Please see can the length be fixed.
This is a fantastic alternative to the now defunct Google Toolbar, since it seems there will no longer be support for FF5 and later.
I have a question regarding the search history. It appears there's no real logic as to how the search history queries are stored. For instance, a search I did a month ago is still at the top of my search history, and hasn't budged.
How exactly does the search history get sorted? By most searched? By last searched?
Would you be able to add an option whereby we can choose how we want the search history to be displayed? Such as option for sorting alphabetically, by most search, by last searched. That would be great.
One of my favorite features of Google Toolbar was how it stored my search history, so I can go back and forth looking for my latest queries. I believe the original Google Toolbar always sorted by last search made.
Anyhow, thanks so much for the continued support. This is a fantastic add-on I would be lost without.
This works with Firefox 5, is unobtrusive and fills a need. I used the official google toolbar previously and was disappointed with the incompatibility in Firefox 5. I am happy I found this add-on.
I would love to have the search function where as I type words into the bar, it can suggest things as I go. Made it a great feature of googles own toolbar, it would be great on here. You know. The search predictions as you type? I would love that on here.
An important missing functionality is the ability to detach the buttons from the search box:
With the original GoogleBar, I have the search box on the "navigation toolbar", to the right of the URL box, while I relocated the rest of its buttons to the Menu Bar, making more efficient use of available space.
Can't seem to do that with "Googlebar Lite" as all its UI elements are bunched together.
(using FF 3.6)
Very nice. I updated to FF 6.0 and Google had not updated their toolbar yet when I found this. I was even able to modify the googlebarlite.js by adding "+ "sout=1"" to the image search I now get basic image search directly from the toolbar. Future options choice?
Great add-on. Thank you for the update.
Firefox 4.1.x to 6.*
The author has a version at his or her Website for this add-on to support versions of Ffx greater than 4.0.* and up to 6.*, so there's no need for modifying the install.rdf file.
I haven't yet tried this add-on, having only learned about a few minutes ago, so will give a 4-of-5-star rating for now.
Below is a quick hack for Firefox 5.0
Here's hoping this excellent Add-on will soon be released for compatibility with F5.
Gratitude to you Jonah Bishop!
Fantastic, I just switched to googlebar lite, it's very "lite"and works better than the official one! Really really good job!
Just one thing to make it perfect, on-line auto-completion, the only feauture i miss.
I was using Googlebar before Google offered their own Google Toolbar. Subsequently, I switched to Google Toolbar. When that stopped working for me in FF 4.0, I was really disappointed. And then I stumbled across Googlebar Lite. I use Googlebar Lite for various kinds of searches and it does just what I need without the bloat. I'm a convert! Thanks so much.
Nice addon, I love it.
Does anyone know if there's an addon like this, but for Bing? I like the site search/image search buttons...
Absolutely cannot do without this add-on. How about an update so we can switch to the Firefox 4 Beta?
