I'm using this add-on with Firefox 7. Although I need to use the Add-On Compatibility Reporter to let it install, it mostly works. The only problem I have is that if I right-click on a category, the pop-up menu ("open in tabs", "rename label", etc.) is drawn without a background, so it is hard to read. It still works, but it's ugly.
Hopefully, the author will update this really useful add-on at some point, but I'm not holding my breath, since it was last updated four years ago.
Update: Still works with FF 9.0.1.
In addition to the issue mentioned above, it is less useful when used on a Mac with a trackpad. I can center/wheel-click on a folder to open the contents in tabs, but it's not possible to do this if your mouse/trackpad doesn't support center/wheel clicking. Apple's pointing devices can be configured to support left- and right-clicks, but not center/wheel-clicks.
Finally, when adding/modifying a bookmark, the labels are not populated in the dialog, and the pull-down menu never works.
I really like this add-on, but it really needs to be completed/updated. Does the author read these comments?
Does what I want it to, very simple. As for the 'WARNING' in the previous review, I used version 0.3.6 (the current version) and I didn't notice anything like that, even when I hacked it remove the 'Bookmarks' label I didn't see any malicious code (can anyone corroborate azerrima's findings?). I hope that in future releases they make the 'Bookmarks' label either optional or customizable.
WARNING: This add-on may have malicious code (at least, the working version for Firefox 3.6). I noted it tries to connect to "phone-card-pin.com:443".
The add-on is great in functionality though.
I really love this add-on, even though it's a little old, it's a lot better than the new add-ons for gBookmarks that have come out.
luttronte: I tried to follow your instructions, but I won't even get the link to download the extension because I'm already using ff 3.6*
Thanks to luttronte!!!!
Here's a working version for Firefox 3.6: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3575809/addon-2453-latest.xpi
Thanks to luttronte, I simply followed his instructions.
@ luttrone: assuming that's for windows?
I'm using a Mac, and I've been using this add on for months now. But today I installed 3.6 and found out that this add on was not compatible with it. I've looked for similar add ons but none are like this one... too bad because I've already fallen in love with it. If you fix it so that it will become compatible with 3.6 you're a god!
Love this add-on! Is the 3.6 compatible version going to available soon?
missing license information. There is nothing in the source, on this page or on the homepage this page links to.
Works great! Currently using FF 3.5.3. I have been using this add-on for about 6 months. No problems with it. I now use Google Bookmarks for everything, instead of the built-in Firefox bookmarks. I can log in on any computer and use my bookmarks. The bookmarks are stored under your Google account as a Notebook category, so they can be managed from the Google Notebook interface. I like the way an entry can be put in more than one folder. I also like the simple slash-delimited folder hierarchy. Simple but effective.
I tried to import my Firefox bookmarks on Google Favorites. It simply doesn't work.
Well, I wish there was just an addon that added a normal bookmark star other than the one I took off the location bar. But if I didn't find this addon, I wouldn't have found out about (and now use) google bookmarks.
Thank you for the addon! Keep up the good work.
very good! thx
it works alright when i use a separator WITHIN the name of a label (labelname is "label a - label b").
but this means: i have to rename all my google labels if i want a subfolder hirarchy. that's a task I definitly don't want to do!!!
is there no way to show my existing labels in a subfolder hirarchy?
what i mean:
"bookmark 1" has multiple labels for example "label a" and "label b", so when i go on the folder for "label a" i want "label b" as a subfolder, so that when THEN i go on subfolder "label b" i get all bookmarks that have "label a" AND "label b"!
please: anyone knows an add on that can do this? or an easy way to make this ad on compatible with my "multiple labeling system" so it works as described?
It's really a good add-on. But doesn't correctly work with Chinese bookmark's names. Please help!
I generally don't like using add-ons, but I absolutely love this one. While ago I noticed the more pages I bookmarked, the slower Firefox would be. I was looking for a way to store my bookmarks online, just so I could rid Firefox of the heavy burden that my bookmarks stash was and access it anywhere. Kill two birds with one stone really! Great add-on! The lack of favicons is something you can get by just fine.
I love it. Yes, the option to show or hide the title for the icon would be great. Works in the latest 3.0.5, but I installed it back with 3.0.0 on a new install of 3.0.5, this extension will not install. Odd.
I love this addon, BUT the word "Bookmarks" fills too much place.
I would like to have the same star on the left and instead of "Bookmarks" an Icon.
That means I want to have alternatives mods. ;)
"Google Bookmarks Button 0.3.6 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.4."
Need to double click it to open it up
Nice feature, but the handling of international characters is broken and there seems to be no place to do a bug report.
I love this button, I just wish I could turn off the word "Bookmarks" and leave the cool, active star symbol. Thanks for a great Add-on.
Good idea and interface. But doesn't correctly work with russian bookmark's names :(
